Holiday Inn Express - clue is in the name!! Basic but reasonable price. Food in bar expensive and basic food dressed up on menue to appear like something it was not. Staff however helpful and pleasant. Staff recommended places to eat in and out of town. Taxi company assigned to hotel were efficient. Breakfast was reasonable but not much choice in […] the cooked line - scrambled eggs, beans and sausage. "Not as good as other Holiday Inns we have stayed at."
We love staying at Holiday Inn- especially express. We find them clean comfortable and good service. This is the first one that we actually had some minor issues with. We were told that we could order an evening meal from the restaurant area bar from 6pm-we ordered at 3 minutes past 6 and were the first people to order-there was only one other couple […] there and they appeared to have not yet ordered. I ordered soup and my husband ordered fish and chips. I received the meal within 10 minutes of ordering and my husband received his meal at 5 minutes to 7pm-almost an hour later! We enquired about the meal twice. The only other issue was that the toilet leaked all night and had a strong odour. These things can happen and I am sure it would have been rectifyed immediately once we reported it the next morning as we always find Holiday Inn well maintained-however I do feel the situation with the meals was unacceptable. Hotel is unpretentious and adequate - and no doubt convenient if you are using the airport! Staff friendly and breakfast was fine. BUT - try to avoid rooms at the front near the main entrance if you want to sleep with the windows open. We were woken up several times by people talking loudly below our window during the night, and I suspect it was the […] night staff having a cigarette break and being totally unaware that guests were trying to sleep! Also, car parking inadequate and we nearly couldn't find a parking space when we came back to the hotel at midnight - this not helped by three motorbikes occupying car parking slots. "Lovely hotel, friendly staff, poor location"
Despite the info stating that the hotel was just over 2 miles to centre of Cambridge this would only be true if you went through the back ways and by ways which are not lit at night. After cutting through the walkway close to the hotel to travel to the centre we soon found a bus that took us to town but even the many bus drivers we asked didn't know […] which bus would get us back, therefore we had to resort to taxis which ranged from 8 to 10 pounds each journey. (Highly recommend Cam Cabs whose drivers were really friendly.) In retrospect it would have been more financially viable to stay in a hotel or guest house more central than having to pay for four journeys a day (i.e. there and back twice). The hotel staff were superb, very informative and extremely friendly. The breakfast was poor. The reception service was adequate, I arrived at just before 9pm, which turned out to be too late to get anything to eat in the restaurant. There was no room service at all and unfortunately, the minimum of refreshments - exactly two tea bags, two coffee sachets and four mini cartons of milk contained no biscuits. The hotel is on an out of town retail […] park, so there was no where nearby to eat either. If I'd have known in advance, I could have stopped at a petrol station on the way and picked up something. The room rate was what I was looking for in the area and was OK for a basic, cheapish overnight stay, booked at relatively short notice. Molto scomodo per chi non ha l'auto ed impossibile da trovare senza il navigatore è situato in un area industriale vicina all'aeroporto l'unico pub nelle vicinanze (1 km) chiude la cucina alle 20.00 quindi se arrivate come noi alle 20.30 prendete l'auto e raggiungete la città. Consiglio l'uso dei "park & ride" situati in vari punti del Ring Road autostradale […] altrimenti preparatevi a pagare 2 sterline per ogni ora nei parcheggi cittadini.
