Hôtel Universel in Rivière-du-Loup

We were on vacation for two weeks and stayed overnight at 6 different places; the Hotel Universel stands out in our minds as the greatest place we found along the way. The room was excellent; the staff could not have been nicer--and I didn't speak a word of French, which is what is spoken almost exclusively at this hotel and city. The staff "doubled […] over backward" to be sure that we were comfortable and to be sure to meet our needs. We loved everything about this hotel!!!! Others should take lessons from these people. We were looking for a hotel as a stop over on a long trip. This hotel was perfect for our needs - relatively inexpensive, but clean and with a friendly, efficient, bilingual staff. The pool, hot tub and gym were all reasonable and a big plus for us.

The hotel being so close to the bus station was VERY convenient for us. Everything was fine except that the room was too hot and we didn't want to open the window (although that would have fixed the problem). The shower was excellent and I really liked the products provided.

This is a nice hotel in the Riviere-du-loup area. We stayed there on our way back to Ontario from a east coast trip. It was right by the highway for good access. The pool was nice and the restaurant had decent food.

Clean and Comfortable: Lots of pillows and clean smelling. Bathroom shiny and clean as well. Stayed one night but took two showers to really enjoy it. Bar fridge and small coffee/teapot appreciated after a long day of travel. Ate in one of the restaurants. Food good and service excellent! Great wine list too! I was very impressed by the personnel working at the hotel. They were friendly and helpful when I asked questions. The rooms were comfortable. At the time the elevator was not working and I was on the 4th floor. The price was also reasonable. Overall I would choose to stay again.

This was my second stay in a week at this hotel. The same clerk, Mark, was at the desk when I went to check in. He called me by my name before even getting any info from me, pretty good considering how many people he likely seen in the last week. First room given smelled of stale smoke but staff was very friendly and moved us to another room which although dated was very clean and fresh smelling. The hotel pool is a nice size and bright and sunny. Overall this is a dated hotel but well maintained and, according to the display in the lobby, is being renovated by November 2012.
