The hotel is right on High Way 401 which was convenient, but if I had known what the area was like I would NOT have chosen this place. Although there was a complimentary breakfast, it was not appetizing. The juice container did not look clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. I must admit that Howard Johnson normally has a pretty good reputation. Unfortunately, this one is not at the top of my list. The location in good and there are restaurants near by. "Almost didn't find it. Wish we hadn't."
It was easy to miss the entrance of this hotel. We almost did. Reception area was dark and unattractive. No elevator to get to the second floor (we were carrying a heavy piece of luggage so it was an inconvenience). We were sent to a room that was already booked. Could of been quite embarassing. We arrived at the hotel 15 minutes before check in and were told that the room wasn't ready come back at 3pm, we understood this as we were early. So we waited until 3:15 to go back in and try again and still our room wasn't available. We were finally about to check at after 3:30, we were told that because of the inconvenience that our room was upgraded […] to a deluxe suite. The room we reserved was supposed to sleep 6 adults, with 2 queen beds. We traveled with 2 adults and 3 children. The 2 beds were smaller then double beds and was very crowded for us. The sliding door that led to the "Balcony" was broken which made it very difficult to open or close. We took the children to the pool- no towel were provided and the pool appeared to be in ill repair. In the morning my wife walked down to the breakfast area with 2 of our children to check to see if it was open. It was indeed just opening up. The room had 5 or 6 staff eating the food, that we were under the impression was for the guests. The breakfast was limited enough, but to have to wait behind the staff as they eat and socialize was very disappointing. room did not have any tub plug I asked twice for one so my child can have a bath and i stil didn't recieve it. The sliding patio doors have a really big gap so the outside air was leaking into the room. Renting this room in December and the beds were right beside the door and with the amount of air that came into the room did not make it any better. […] Over all I stayed with my family there for 5 days and I am now extremely sick from the cold air. oh ya their laundry facilities there was 2 washers and 2 dryers in a room the size of a closet and after I spent $7 to do 2 loads of laundry (washed and dryed) I found out that my cloths did not get very cleaned at all. And there was no garbage can in there so all the lint and soap containers were on the floor or in the small sink and there was a condom wraper on the floor. "Not bad, but I've stayed at better for less money"
Check in was quick and easy. I knew that the hotel was under renovations when I booked it so that was not a surprise. I liked the fact that there was a microwave and fridge in the room. The location was good, close to restaurants and the bus. Outside our room someone had left their old dirty boots. There was something sticky on top of the tv. The cord […] from the lamp was spliced together with electrical tape and the light bulb was hanging out. I told my friend that there was no way I was going to even touch it because it looked like it would start a fire. They cleaned our room and took the towels but did not leave any. We asked at the desk and then went out. When we came back in the afternoon still no towels. We went through FIVE room keys because almost every time we went out and came back the key would not work.
