The Claremont Hotel Club & Spa

We stayed for 1 night for a last minute romantic getaway during the week. We upgraded from a standard room to a room with a bay view (the "hillside view" is actually a view of the roof and loud generators). It had a standard tub-shower combo, 2 sink vanity, and a comfortable king bed (but not a comfortable as the foam mattress we have at home). You […] get free access to the club as part of your stay including pool, huge hot tub, workout room, steam room, tennis. The spa was too expensive for me so I never even looked in but the pictures looked very nice. I think you get access to the spa with your room too, and only pay for the services. We ate at the Paragon which was a little overpriced for American comfort food. Service was very good. Parking was just over $20 with in and out privleges but if you like to walk, you can get to campus, the famous Telegraph ave. walking. Plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance. We walked on a residential street and a friendly home owner let us pick his oranges. All in all, I'd stay again. Not for the room, but for the access to club and spa and the location. If you really want a view, you'd probably have to pay more for a better room. Read more

Have seen the hotel in the Berkeley Hills for ever and always thought, "Some day I'm going to visit there." Never did until we stayed there over the weekend. What a relaxing, comfortable, and cruise-like experience. Wonderful staff, great location and grounds, and an exceptional room - quiet, clean, and allergen free!

Haven't been to the Claremont in about 15 years. Very nice property. I would recommend the Bay side rooms-- great views. Staff very helpful and courteous. Dinner at the Meritage is very good.

The Claremont is a famous, beautiful hotel with large grounds. If you visit the pool, bring your shoes - it's a hike to get there, but very nice facilities. Also since the gym classes are included in the cost, put some time aside to take advantage of this. The line at the front desk is slow (As has been several times).

I loved my stay here. It was extremely luxurious and a treat for me. I made an appointment to go into the spa, since i had paid for it in the hotel services charge anyway, however I had no idea that the spa was separate for men and women. I would have rather just gone to the pool/hot tub area.

The Claremont is a landmark hotel and we just love staying here. So beautiful, the restaurants are a little pricey but generally also very worth it. At the same time there are dozens of great smaller and less expensive restaurants in the nearby neighborhood. We have wanted to stay here for some time. Check the hotel functions before you sign up. We were there on Prom night. The lobby was full and we had a first floor room so we heard the beat of the band for some time. A beautiful old hotel with a wonderful location. Nice to have a place where we can entertain local friends (we had a "happy hour" mass meeting in the bar). The gym is excellent. Of course, with the cheap rooms, the view is not so great (we had a view of the dumpsters). Also, for folks staying more than a few days, the lack of drawers meant we lived […] out of suitcases. Everyone talks about the Claremont Hotel as *the* swanky place in the East Bay. When I took my girlfriend there for a New Year's treat, we were surprised how weird this place was. The design is out of the '70s, the service is sub-par, and the room was seriously lacking for the high price. There was caution tape all over the entrance when we went, so […] we had to go in through a ballroom. The person at the counter was reading a book and barely noticed we were there to check in. The place was eerie and had a strange feel to it, with urns placed in the hallways. Yes, it's an old place and they make that obvious but elevators open and close at random times, and you picture blood spilling out. Then, in the room, we wanted to chill our champagne, but the refrigerator in the room didn't work. We wanted to put our clothes away but there wasn't even a chest of drawers. The heat didn't seem to work and then it got incredibly hot. On the good side, the bed was comfortable. And the spa was very nice, though it does cost extra. This hotel seems like a better place to visit, go to the spa, use the health club, then actually stay overnight. It's in serious need of an upgrade on many fronts. Read more

Everyone was so accommodating, especially the front desk staff. As for our room, the view was wonderful; We had a great spa experience and the gym was great too. The best the bay has to offer. Loved it!

We enjoyed our night at the Claremont Resort and Spa. Dinner at Paragon was great although service was a bit lax (brought us wrong drinks but then bought us a round and then waited a long while for dessert to be delivered). The rooms are a bit funky, not all of them having tubs. The pool and classes are great though. Very relaxing.
