His influence can be seen at the nearby Pu’ukohola Heiau National Historic Site, where visitors can see the temple of war he built before unifying the Hawaiian Islands.

We spend 2 weeks every August in Waikaloa and thought we would try Hali'i Kai. We always stay in condos (Aston Shores, Bay Club, etc) - and were expecting a much more luxurious stay (as it is much more expensive). While the location, property. pool, clubhouse and other property ameminties were wonderful, the service and clearing were awful! We stayed […] 14 nights and they never cleaned the condo! Even after asking several times for a cleaning (we offered to exchange the free breakfast vouchers for a cleaning) they still did not. They did a "light cleaning" twice (after 5 days) but this only included changing the towels, sheets and toilet paper/amenities. The condo is being run into the ground - I feel very sorry for the owners. 14 days of sand in the carpet and sunscreen on the marble counter cannot be good. And the final straw - they did NOT provide beach towels. In Hawaii! You could rent them for $2 a day each (and they stood guard at the pool to prevent borrowing them). Can you imagine? Staying at a 4 star resort but having to clean and bring towels? Next time we will definately return to the Shores - the staff is wonderful and the property is well maintained.
