The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, or Duomo for short, is one of Italy’s largest churches, and tops the list of places to visit in Florence. The impressive Gothic architecture features an ornate exterior, stained glass windows, and a cavernous interior. Two popes are buried here, and three of the buildings are on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.see all hotels in Florence
"Great location for important sites."
Staff was very helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and well maintained. Historical sites easily within a short walk. Bed was comfortable. The only issue was the number of people seeking monetary handouts on the streets.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Location is best feature"
This was a perfectly fine hotel, with decent amenities. Not the most impressive place we stayed on our honeymoon -- kind of basic and corporate -- but the location right next to the Duomo makes it a great place for taking in all of the action. I wouldn't say it's the best place for a honeymoon, but it's perfectly good for most visits.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"In the Heart of Florence."
Just down the street from the Duomo, this is a comfortable, clean place to stay. If you aren't expecting typical hotel amenities, you won't be disappointed. There is a convenient snack bar in the lobby and the staff is friendly and helpful. A week before we arrived, I emailed the hotel, asking for specific reservations at a restaurant in a village in […] the hills across the Po. When we arrived, the waiter led us to a lovely table by the open window with a beautiful view of the Tuscan hills. Thank you Hotel Laurus, Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to Duomo, Nice Hotel, Great view"
The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. It is very close to the train station and Duomo. The view for breakfast was very nice. Breakfast selection was good. The room was clean. The only reason for not a 5 rating was the shower. It was a decent size but would get the floor soaking wet becasue the "door" did not cover the whole shower.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Terrific central location. Clean, good A/C"
Love Florence. Was very happy with the location of this hotel. Also dinner recommendations were just what we wanted although being in Italy a week I felt like we never had a bad meal. Even casual pizzerias have good salads and pastas. The hotel room windows do not overlook the Duomo but the breakfast roof terrace does have a nice view down the street […] of the dome. If you want to be in the center of town with a good mid price hotel this fits the bill. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good but hard to find."
We liked this hotel. It was a great location, clean room, nice bathroom with a tub! BUT it was hard to find! The name of the hotel is on the window rather than above the door, which is a different sign. THey really need to do something about that.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Convenient and clean hotel"
Nice, clean hotel. Staff not overly friendly. Very convenient to the train station.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Location, location, location"
This hotel is centrally located near the Duomo. We walked to all Florence sites - even those on the other side of the river. We had a triple room which was large (separate bedroom area for the 3rd person - no door between the rooms). The bathroom was nice. There were no screens in the windows, allowing mosquitoes to get in the room - this was annoying […] since 1) we couldn't get fresh air and 2) the cleaners opened the windows while cleaning (we walked in on them) letting bugs in. We left a note after we figured this out. The service in the hotel bordered on rude. They barely acknowledged us each time we entered and seemed bothered when we asked for restaurant recommendations. The lobby is tiny on the main floor with a slightly larger lobby on the first floor. Breakfast (included) was adequate, not great. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to Duomo though hard to find!"
Enjoyed the hotel and the view of the Duomo from our room, which faced the main street. Bed was hard, but so were all the other beds we slept on during our tour through other cities in Italy. Probably my biggest complaint regarding the hotel was that it was really hard to find! We walked past the place twice looking for the name of the hotel posted […] on the outside of the building (large signage like most of the other hotels and businesses). Instead, they have a large canopy for another organization - Life Beyond Tourism (which apparently they partner with and share a lobby). Their name is on a small sign to the right of the building's entrance. We ran into another guest later that night and he had the same complaint we did - hard to find and poor signage. Very nice hotel, right in the middle of everything, easy to find if you get lost. The roof top was great and a good value for cheese and wine.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very European, with modern touches"
Has very European feel with typical small rooms but well set up for the space. Enjoyed our five days there, except for the internet outage. Helpful staff, and well maintained. Very clean. Very well located for seeing Florence on foot which is the best way to do Florence. Close to train station, on the bus lines and a 25 Euro ride by taxi to the airport. Breakfast […] was a delightful and noteworthy experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great spot in the heart of Florence."
Everything in the room was new. It had hardwood floors. The bed was really comfortable. Our View was really bad, but it didn't matter. We just went up to the rooftop bar for a great view.Genuine Expedia guest review
This hotel is great for tourists who want to be near most attractions to walk to. Clean, we'll cared for ,and decent breakfast. We loved being able to walk to the duomo and the museums within minutes. Bed was very firm, but mild con to more pros. Staff spoke very good English which was helpful too.Genuine Expedia guest review

great location, great staff ,terriffic breakfast, loved view of Duomo, free internet, lovely library, very good valueGenuine Expedia guest review
We had a great stay at Hotel Laurus al Duomo. It is in a fabulous location in Florence, close to the train station and close to the Duomo. The hotel was very clean and the staff great. Thanks for a great stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Hotel centrally located"
We were really pleased with this hotel. Location was great! Our room was really comfortable and very spacious, also the bathroom was really good size and clean, so we were really please with that because the bathroom in our hotel in Rome was tiny. The Staff at the Duomo were really friendly and willing to answer any question we had.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent location; lousy bed"
The hotel was excellent and could not have been better, and the front-desk staff were very helpful. The room was a little dated for a four-star. We also had a premium room with a King and a view, so I was surprised by the hard bed. It was the least comfortable bed in a three-week vacation in Southern Europe!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel centrally located and within walking distance of all major sites. Room was clean and neat and we had a view of the Duomo. Front desk staff a little surely at times but friendly and helpful overall. Breakfast each morning was wonderful. ""Fabulous hotel in Florence""
What a pleasant surprise, the location of this hotel is excellent.. We had a great room 606 with a terrace and view, breakfast was awesome.. Very clean, big for Italy standards would recommend and definitely return. I am a very picky person, usually stay at 5 Star hotels so you won't be disappointed.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Honeymoon in Tuscany"
Fantastic location, and very friendly staff. The hotel's wine/breakfast bar overlooks the Duomo and has a fantastic view of the city. The rooms are large, but fairly spartan. Be sure to bring your own toiletries, as those provided are particularly gross. The free breakfast is worth exactly what you pay for it, but it's hard to argue with free. An evening on the roof-top balcony/cafe capped a very nice stay at this hotel. "Nice hotel near central station and Duomo"
Ordered coffee service for the room. Every day maid took away service. So, we had to request it every day. Somewhat of a hassle. Browser on computer at internetpoint not updated. Was never able to access it. Loved the rooftop terrace and the breakfast. My wife and I had the terrace all to ourselves for our wedding anniversary.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Closest to the comforts of the US"
Food at the hotel (in the wine bar) was horrible, and there was only one guy working there who was bartender, waiter, and cook. He was overwhelmed and we felt really bad for him. but still had a very nice time! breakfast was good.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location and views"
Excellent location and nice rooms - larger than expected. We got rooms with a view (peripheral) view of the duomo which was wonderful. The roof terrace/breakfast area was a real treat. The hotel is a bit dated but overall a first class experience!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location and pleasant surprise"
The hotel is five minutes walk from the main train station , no taxi required. Its in a fantastic location one minute walk to the Duomo church which is basically the centre of all things you will want to see . Great restaurants close by, and also good shopping, the rooms are not large but ok ,clean and well stocked with toiletrys and towels..Genuine Expedia guest review
"Florence little gem!"
Excellent location, room and bathroom was in immaculate conditiom, however, pillows are hard and flat...that is why 4/5 is given. overall, very good. Would highly recommend this hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location. Great staff"
This hotel is in a great location. Less than a 10 minute walk from the train station and 2 blocks from The Duomo. The staff are wonderful. The front desk staff were extremely helpful and friendly. "Florence. Best location"
The hotel was located a block from the Duomo. It is walking distance to everything. If you get lost look up for the Duomo and it we lead you back to your hotel. We stayed on the fifth floor right below the bar. It was a little noisy early morning and afternoon we they are setting up meals. Woke us up every morning. Love the hotel otherwise.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Laurus Al Duomo"
The only thing that is keeping this hotel from a 5 star review is a few snotty front desk employees, and inability to print a boarding pass unless one pays for an hour's worth of computer time in lounge. Of you direct all requests or questions to the two really nice front desk people then it's ok. I found Florence in general to be overwhelmed w the […] sheer number of tourists which I think is part of the problem. It must be difficult for them. "Very good location to walk to most major sites."
We chose this hotel based on its location and It's breakfast terrace with a view of the Duomo. We were not dissapointed. We were able to walk to the hotel from SMN station in 10 minutes. The service is quite professional. Room, though not large was adequate and very clean. There was a good variety of breakfast selections. Starting the day on the terrace […] with a view is a nice plus. This hotel is a good choice if you want to be able to walk to most major sites in Florence within 10 minutes. Only negative would be that the signage for the hotel is confusing. On the outside it says "Hotel Duomo" and we walked right past it.There is nothing in the hotel's materials that refers to it as Hotel Laurus al Duomo. The difference in signage should be noted when you have your booking confirmed. When you're tired from a long flight and hauling suitcases it's important to be able to find your hotel easily. "Close to must see sights"
This hotel conventiently located within a two minute walk to the Duomo and the center of the most shopping and other museums. "Almost perfect hotel in Florence."
The hotel was in the most wonderful location in Florence. It was close to the Duomo, the rail station, and within easy walking distance to the Uffizi and Accademia. "Fine in Florence."
Superb location, a couple of blocks from the Duomo. The room was spacious, and the A/C efficient. The rooftop terrace is pleasant for drinks, and breakfast is served here. It was great to be within walking distance of everything we wanted to see in the old town.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A good one if you don't care about the breakfast"
In genral, the location was very good and our room was quite and clean. The TV did not work, but we didn't mind it. our only problem was the breakfast: the orange juice was not orange juce at all. It was something like water, suger, and orange color, the coffee was not good either, and the bread was not fresh. The staff were polite and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel Laurus - close to everything!"
Stayed 4 nights here. Location, location, location. Very quiet rooms despite being on a well-traveled street. Breakfast room a little small, but works. Wi-fi was intermittent, but you should be outside in Florence anyway.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel is located far enough away from the tourist sites that each visit requires a taxi, and great evening meals are not close. The staff is quite helpful. The beds leave MUCH to be desired- pillows and mattress were the worst of any stay in any country during the past few years. Rooms are beautifully decorated in a traditional style.Genuine Expedia guest review

Location could not be better for visiting Florence. As close as a hotel can get to the heart and soul of the city. Hotel is simple, no frills but very nice. "Overall good hotel"
Very clean and close to train station and walking distance to all major sites. Only drawback was the front desk staff. They pretty much ignore you after checkin. This hotel was an excellent choice. It was very clean, room was of decent size, it is close to everything; about a block away from the Duomo. I can be very picky about certain things. "In the heart of it all"
I all all about a good hotel for a good price, and hit every mark! I couldn't believe how close this was to everything. The Duomo was a block away, the pedestrian area was about half a block, and the train station was a couple of blocks away (10 minutes if you walk as slow as me). I felt a bit stupid for taking a taxi fromt he train station once I realized […] how close it was! The hotel recomended a restaurant near the Medicee Chapel, and we ended up going back a couple of times. There is also a self service laundry within 2-3 blocks. The view from the terrace was great, we enjoyed a glass of wine up there many evenings! The staff at the front desk was pleasant but not as gracious as all the other hotels we stayed at. The room nice and laid out well. There nwas room in the fridge for our water bottles and wine. The bathroom even had a tub! There was a lot of street noise with the window open, but it was silent with the window closed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
