Location excellent. Price was moderate vs other hotels in the city but cleanliness gains little points. I met other tourists who stayed at cheaper hotels , more spartan but clean. "Would not recommend..."
The location was just perfect. Steps from all to do in Florence ... Walk to train station in 5 min., all the sites so very close, if that is indeed what you are after. The condition of the hotel .... Sadly, very dirty and dated our room had wallpaper peeling off the walls. Shower full of mold, walls clear duct tape repaired. I didn't like this hotel at all. The room was tiny with zero floor space. The carpeting in room and hotel was old and smelled old. During our 3 night stay, we changed rooms 3 times. All rooms had a strong odor as if the windows were not opened in years. Everything smelled awful that I couldn't even hang up my chlothes in the closet. Furniture were extremly old and everthing appeared to be dirty. Lobby has a stale, moldy odor. Rooms are extremely small and have the same moldy smell. Bathrooms. Where shall I begin? Shower stall barely gives enough room to turn around and one can see mold around the base. To get in the shower one has to step over the bidet. I only wish I was a trained acrobat. "Only things good were location & breakfast"
YUCK! Hotel is well located - only a 5 minute walk to the train/bus station which was our primary reason for booking it in the first place because we took day trips by train out of Florence. But location to the train & breakfast were it's only redeeming qualities. The lobby was dimlylighted even at night...plaster peeling from the walls, in poor repair […] all around. It was not possible to connect to the internet from our room so we had to use the lobby. The reception staff were pleasant enough but not particularly welcoming or engaging. Our room was large - probably because we were a party of 3 (for which we paid dearly!!) and it was the only place we stayed for 10 days where I felt uncomfortable walking on the carpet in bare feet... it looked & felt shabby & dirty. The bathroom was especially unclean & in disrepair - the last renovation job (am guessing 25 years ago) was a disaster. But breakfast was good - if that saves it for you. This was the most horrible hotel I have ever stayed in. I was extremely embarrassed or mortified by the condition of the bathroom, and even more so because I had my daughter and her friend with me. "If you are easy going with a small penny"
Overall, when I look it up the hotel was a 3 star hotel. That was all I needed. It was authentic, front desk was nice, provided wifi (only in the lobby) and we thought was in a very good location. About a 5 minute walk to the Duomo and Santa Maria was on the other side that we could literally see sitting behind us from the hotel. We decided to stay here as it was close to the station and we were arriving very late at night. It is close and easy to find from the station/main bus terminal so is definitely recommended for that. "Bonciani - not so great."
Pros: -Great location! (close to the train station). -Relatively inexpensive for Florence. Cons: -Internet: This was very important to me and I was extremely let down... as the description promised internet in the rooms. The truth is if you are staying in a room higher than the first floor you can expect not to have any internet connection at all in […] your room. The signal doesn't reach that far. I was staying on the 4th floor and had to come down stairs each time I wanted to check my email... plus the connection was extremely slow... sometimes took 15-20 seconds just to load Google's home page for example. -The whole place has a strange moldy smell. -It's dimly lit and dreary inside. -The puke green color motif of the carpet, bed-spread, and curtains is not working for me. I felt uncomfortable walking barefoot on the carpet. -The bed blanket looked like it hadn't been washed for a year... there was long black hair all over it (not my own, yuck!). -The bed was hard and and the padding thin. The first morning I woke up my back was aching a bit... I got used to it by the second night though. -The staff is helpful as long as you don't ask them for help. -The breakfast was not great, the pastries we a tad stale, the coffee on-tap tasted like NesCafe, the plates were not washed with care, and they were still wet, and there was remnants of food still crusted on them from previous meals. -The rooms were very small and the shower was tiny and awkward to use. The blow dryer wasn't great either... looked like a vacuum cleaner attachment. -The elevator goes only to the 3rd floor so if you're on the 4th floor like I was you have to hall your luggage up a flight of stairs. -The rooms were a tad cold even with the heat on... the lobby felt like they never turned the heat on. -The toilet didn't flush well... occasionally I had to repeatedly flush like 3 times.
