The Grand Hotel Baglioni in Florence, Italy is 300 meters from the Santa Maria Novella station and 10 kilometers from Florence Airport. The property is next to Santa Maria Novella Church and 3 blocks from San Lorenzo Church and Via Tornabuoni. Less than 2 kilometers from the hotel are 2 of Florence's many museums, Uffizi Art Gallery and Accademia Art Gallery.

Once the residence of the Carrega Bertolini princes, the 19th century building that houses the Grand Hotel Baglioni is typical of Florentine architecture. The hall leading to the lobby features high ceilings and restored architecture. The corridors have original coffered-wood ceilings and the lifts feature original mirror paneling. The hotel's amenities include complimentary newspapers, coffee in the lobby and tour assistance.
Buffet breakfasts are served each morning in the fifth-floor restaurant. On the fifth floor of the hotel, Terrazza Brunelleschi restaurant serves Italian cuisine and a la carte menus, and offers city views. Complimentary wireless Internet access is available in the common areas on the ground floor of the hotel. The hotel offers a business center and six meeting rooms with a total of 420 square meters of space.

The hotel is about a block from the train station and is easy to access by using the tunnel under the street. The hotel is in an area of Florence that makes all major tourist sites easily accessible on foot. There are many places in the neighborhood to eat and the hotel has a high quality restaurant. The hotel is nice but nothing special and clearly needs an update. From a working perspective the rooms are too dark. We liked the historical feel of the hotel and the roof is spectacular. It is central and so walking is easy wherever you want to visit. Overall, a good to very good stay. It is very convenient to train station and city. Rooms were comfortable but the usual Europe small. Florence is a great old city, which also makes it difficult to find a nice hotel with modern amenities. We lucked out with this one. The rooms are older but clean...reminds me of how Italian relatives would equip a room in their old home...minimalist but sufficient. The free wifi was excellent and the breakfast buffet was very good with amazing views […] of the city. Location was just a block from the train station, a priority for us. The 'marital bed' was large enough for me, my wife and 4yo daughter. You can take the station's underground exit ramp right under all the traffic and it will let you out at the front door of the hotel. It couldn't be any easier. I stayed at this hotel years ago when I was travelling with my parents and the place has really not changed. This hotel was great...but... the only complaint I would have is that the staff was not very friendly. We inquired at the front desk a couple of times about various things, such as the rate they charged to exchange our money and directions to different points of interest and found them (one woman in particular actually) to be not friendly at all. She […] was very short with us and seemed to be annoyed with us. Other than that, this hotel was very nice. The breakfast was good, great views and wonderful location. The hotel maid even cleaned the hair out of my brushes when we were out one day! I kind of thought that was funny. The beds were hard, but we found that everywhere we stayed in Italy on our trip. We chose Grand Hotel Baglioni because of the proximity to the train station as we were arriving from Venice via the Eurostar and had bags to handle. We didn't find the entrance that is right next to the main entrance to the hotel but it was no problem rolling our bags across the street. One negative was that she did mention her commission during a change in our plans. Not appropriate at this class of hotel but she was helpful nonetheless. Our room was extremely clean and comfortable. Clean, modern bathroom, great water pressure. The only negative was that in a city so full of beautiful art there was not one piece of artwork on the walls. The hotel had a restaurant on the 5th Floor with breathtaking views of the Duomo, good food and free, very extensive breakfast buffet. Also the waiters were very friendly. The area surrounding the hotel was dominated by the train station, and the beautiful Santa Maria Novella church.
