American Canyon sits at the southern entrance to Napa Valley, between Vallejo and Napa. Vineyards on the rolling hills foretell the world-class wineries to the north. Largely residential, the city also attracts winemaking industries such as cooperages and cork producers. To the south, Vallejo has its own attractions, such as Six Flags Discovery Kingdom theme park and a foot ferry to San Francisco.

"Room condition"
The people were nice enough, but the condition of our room was horrible. The bathroom was the main culprit. The toilet takes 3 flushes, and the toilet set was always coming off. Also, there are no hooks to hang your bath towels. Finally, the soap dispensers just don't cut it. You need bars of soap and bottles of shampoo. We will never stay there ag […] ain. "Would stay here again"
Likes: Very comfortable beds. Friendly staff. Convenient location for our needs. Fresh warm cookies. The Canyon Cafe, located nearby, is a wonderful place for breakfast. The room was clean. Internet worked fine. Dislikes: Although there were 3 people in the room, we could not get the maid to leave 3 wash cloths. Water pressure in the shower was inadequate […] although, due to regulations, this is pretty common in California. The cable TV worked fine but there weren't many channels. "only hotel available"
We booked at the Double Tree because it was the only hotel available - we figured out it was because it was harvest time and it was also Columbus Holiday Weekend so likely all other places were booked early. The drive was not too far from Napa, Yountville, etc. The rooms were decent and served its purpose but I would't plan on staying there again unless […] no other places were available. "OK hotel for price if you just want to sleep"
Ceiling fixture was hanging loosely from the ceiling, handtowels were there the first night but not the second, bed was uncomfortable and every time you turned it made a noise, the ice machine was broke, the soda machine had items mislabled (root beer displayed/7 up stocked). Would have been nice to have a couple more straight-back chairs for card playing […] but we did go down to the lobby. "good room... HORRIBLE service."
The hotel itself has been kept in great condition, however, the service can use an upgrade. We arrived at the hotel around midnight after traveling all day. We were exhausted and simply wanted a quick check in so that we can get rest. The desk receptionist made eye contact with us, and whispered, "I'll be with you in a minute." He then continued helping […] the guest on the phone. He continued to answer TWO more phone calls afterwards, leaving us to wait in the lobby for a total of 19 minutes. Completely unacceptable. As for the room and grounds, they are presented well and clean. No complaints there. If you are choosing this hotel to wine taste in Napa, it is still quite a drive before making it to the wineries (35-45 minutes). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Average Accommodations for an Above Average Price"
The hotel was a little dated and the neighborhood isn't exactly a garden spot. It appears the hotel is undergoing some sort of face lift as the lobby and restaurant area were pretty nice. The "lagoon" is essentially a big mud puddle that isn't particularly appealing - We paid extra for that view. It isn't a bad drive to Napa or Sonoma but it is about […] 10-15 miles away depending on where you are going. The room was ehhhh, nothing special but comfortable with no particularly outstanding accoutrements - but the mini fridge did come in handy. The staff was exceptional - friendly, courteous and helpful. If you are like us and not spending too much time in your room it was acceptable, but a little pricey all things considered. The hotel appeared to be under renovation. Each of the room labels was missing information. The cleaning crew didn't appear to want to clean unless you asked them to clean. The lobby was the only nice part. The lagoon view was murky with green algae growing on the sides. It was not a pleasant stay. Fortunately, we were only there for two days.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Decent hotel but not polished"
The room was clean and spacious, however the water pressure of the shower was weak. I personally don't like soap wall dispensers and prefer bar soap but this is a personal choice just be prepared. "only adequate"
Somewhat disappointed in the accommodations, somewhat below what we expected. What they called a swimming pool was a glorified kiddie's wading pool where it was not possible to swim laps or even exercise. Glad we didn't get an inside room - the bullfrog chorus was deafening. Amenities were similar to what we'd see in a two-star hotel, and the door we […] had to enter was difficult to operate and was definitely not handicapped accessible, even though it was labeled as such, and a wheelchair could not get over the curb. I was disappointed with how old this hotel looks. It's been repaired but you still get that old hotel feel. The bathroom is so small you have to close the door to get into shower. "DoubleTree at American Canyon"
the hotel building itself is great, modern and green. I especially loved the lagoon with the 2 swans. The on-site restaurant was fantastic with good food and service. The only things that marred my stay was on checkout- they had charged an erroneous bill to my room. Then the receptionist kept on asking me whether I had paid for my lunch in the restaurant, […] when clearly I couldn't have walked out without paying. Not sure if I look like a thief but I wouldn't have dined and dashed - straight to the lobby would I? I finally suggested she call the restaurant and ask them whether I had paid, and the manager came in to help. Other than that, good stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

This hotel was clean, had comfortable beds and a friendly staff, however, the bathroom was so awkward I don't think I could stay there again. This hotel offers a lot for the rate if you are reconciled with the fact it is not in a "wine country" location. Rooms are very comfortable. The pictures don't represent the facility or location well. I didn't realize that it is right on the highway. Small pool gets taken over by small groups. Suggest more pools or a large pool and additional hot tub. Touch up paint would do wonders to the rooms. Didn't love the food. I understand this hotel recently became Doubletree, however it was a disappointment. The room was lacking in soap, towels and other usual amenities that we have become accustomed. We asked for a late departure which was confirmed, to only have some of the service staff enter our room when I was showering demanding that we check-out. The restaurant had quality food and good wine selection. The bartender was very fun and friendly, she made you feel welcome. The pool and spa areas were clean. "Double Tree not "Gaia Spa""
Ok so this htel was ok. IguessI just excpeced more from it. It's now the Double Tree not Gaia...no big deal. They still have the Gaia Spa & Resturant in the complex though. I found that the menus that were in the hotel resturant and online all differed in prices and items. So that was kinda of confusing and a litte aggravating. Check in & out times […] were different then what was on hotel.com. Our batteries in our tv remote were dying which was annoying. The people who worked in the Gaia resturant were not very professional and were slow. The food was ok there. Another thing was the water my husband to be said that it stunk...and when I took a shower I noticed it did too. They have a small pool area which I thought was really nice but they only had 1 lounge chair that you were able to lay in the rest of the chairs you just sat upright in. Which for me sucked cause I always like to lay out and tan while on vacation and a pool is there. It is unfortunate that I have to write a bad review seeing as this was an early honey moon trip for us. And the first time I have used hotels.com. Hopfully it will be a better experience next time. "Okay for the price"
The name of the hotel changed between booking and staying, however, no one notified me of that. The room keys wouldn't work. Price was half that of staying in Napa but the drive to and fro was a pain. Was there for a holiday weekend and restaurant completely shut down meaning the only option on site was to partake in the holiday meal for $35/per person […] in one of their conference room spaces. Since there isn't any close eating option we had to drive to another town for breakfast. We spent the morning biking the Silverado Trail and came back to take a nap before our massages. Our room hadn't been cleaned yet. Housekeeping came knocking 10 minutes later. I asked if she could come back in an hour when we left to get our massages. She said she got off work in 45 minutes and she was the only person who could clean our room, or not clean it if we didn't want it right then. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Double Tree in Napa"
Honestly it was another hotel. One thing I did not appreciate was when we booked our hotel it was under a different name and Double Tree bought it out but we never were notified of it. Thank goodness we had a GPS with us otherwise we wouldn't have been able to find it since we kept looking for the other hotel name. We wanted to do wine tastings in Napa […] but the location of the hotel was a lot further out than we expected so if you want to do wine tastings plan for 45 minutes or so to get there from the hotel. I thought it was tacky the hotel put all their soap and lotion in a dispencer you find in a public restroom. That turned me off instantly! Other than that, it's just another hotel. hotel is beautiful from the outside and in. staff were really nice and helpful. rooms were nice and clean to the naked eye. our first room had issues with the door locking. we were unaware of this for hours until i pushed the door lightly and it just opened. instead of offering us another room after the handy man struggled to fix the problem. i had […] to demand another room asap. it became an inconvenience because we had dinner reservations and still needed to get situated and ready. our 2nd room had no major issues besides for the tub being clogged and fan not working in the bathroom! while showering i had water up to my ankles due to the slow clogged draining. supposedly the house keeper had resolved the issues. not at all! for the next 2 days i showed with water up to my ankle. overall the staff were kind, but their romms need major work!!! "It was a fine hotel"
The Gaia Hotel changed names to the Double Tree within the 4 months I made a reservation and my stay, and the reviews became more negative during that time. That said my room was very nice looking, the bed was comfortable and I had a fridge and a micro wave oven in the room. The walls are thin and you can hear lots of hall way noise. My room was located […] on the ground floor in the front of the hotel and across from the elevator and I could hear the highway noise in the morning. I wish the hotel told me I was getting a wheel chair accessible room (low closets, no counters in the bathroom) I also had no trash can in my room. The front desk was very nice in responding to my concerns and generous with the doubletree cookies. I needed the hotel for just one night as I was attending a wedding in Napa and only stayed at the hotel for 12 hours. I was satisfied with the hotel and tolerant of noise ( I slept well) and I might stay again. The breakfast was good at the hotel. My stay was a good deal for the price. It is about 20 minutes from Napa. Perhaps the hotel puts the customers buying cheaper rooms over the internet in the front rooms? During my next trip to Napa I'll know what to expect and I'll ask for a room in the back. If you intend to return to your hotel from Napa more than once during the day I suggest you look at getting a hotel closer to Napa. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Was decent, especially for the price!"
Overall, this is a nice place to stay for the price. Had a great view of a pond with geese and ducks. Water wasn't much to look at but I guess it gave it that dirty pond water look. Everything in the room worked and the rooms were nice. Beds were comfortable but, since we are NOT feather pillow people, we did not sleep well the first night. I had tried […] calling down to the front desk to see if they had another option for pillows, but couldn't get anyone to answer the phone. The second night, someone picked up at the front desk and said they would bring up some cotton pillow. 20 minutes later we recieve ONE. When I told the gentleman from housekeeping we had asked for two, he replyed "sorry, that's out last one". Really? And what a sad little pillow it was!! Two miniture pillow stuffed into a regular sized pillow case - totally unable to use! The surrounding neighborhood was pretty run down and not much going on - very old. Not the Napa area atmosphere I was hoping for. On the morning we were scheduled to check-out, we had a bill slipped under our door for dinner at the hotel restuarant. Problem is, we never ate there! The bill was for a different customer in a different room #. Honest mistake, sure, but I also see it as someone's inability to pay attention. Again, for the price, it was decent and we might consider staying in the future. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Under Construction, however not advertised"
This hotel was not horrible, I just did not realize that by it being under construction non of the amenities would be available. When I think under construction I think noisy during the day and possibly dusty. What I failed to realize was that the fitness centers were out of order and the business center was closed. When I woke up the next morning and […] could not work out, I thought ok, well I will send some faxes and check my email on the computer. That's when I found out the business center was down. The receptionist at the front desk was hardly friendly when I asked him if I could they could fax something for me. He replied "how many pages?' Seriously?! Fortunately it was just two pages but OMG. It's also not as close to Napa as you would think. It's about a 30 minute drive. There is hardly anything around this hotel so you're almost forced to eat at their overpriced restaurant. The food is good, however, no complaints on the service there either. Lastly, the shower was clogged and taking forever to drain.
