"The Algonquin"
Our room was in the new building and it was very nice, very large, very quiet with a peek view of the ocean. The AC/Heating worked very well and the linens and beds were very comfortable. The room had a small kitchen and a very nice bathroom, perfect for a long stay. The room was on OK as far as being clean, but certainly acceptable. I can understand […] the reason because the room was never cleaned in the two nights that we stayed there. We saw the cleaning staff working on our floor, but they never made it by our room. We called the desk twice and were told that they were under-staffed, but room service would be there. They never made it. We had to make an emergency run to the desk for toilet paper at 7:00 PM, very stressful! We asked The Fairmont group for some consideration with regard to the lack of room service and were denied. Thankfully, Hotels,com stepped up and made things right. It is such a shame that the Fairmont Group cannot get it right. What could have been a spectacular stay ended up being only so-so. If we had gone at a different time of year, we probably would have enjoyed ourself. Beautiful hotel. Very old. We had no a/c and it was warm and very muggie. There was to much clutter in the room decor to give it it's "victorian" feel, so it left very little room for your own things. Fairmont has done a pretty good job with a historic hotel. The best amenity is the fresh-faced, young staff who are friendly and helpful. The rooms are small but they were in 1904 when the hotel was rebuilt. No air conditioning needed; but outside fires are. Still searching for a niche. A charming town with lot's of character and good restaurants. The hotel grounds and public areas are beautiful. We were assigned an older room. I got the impression no guests had stayed in that particular room for a while as there were cob webs here and there. The hotel is old and our room showed wear. There were no closets and it was also very small. […] These are observations that I would normally not mention but when it's a Fairmount you expect class and comfort. "ONE BEAUTIFUL NIGHT AT THE ALONQUIN"
In one word: Excellent. Our one night stay at the Algonquin was outstanding. It will not be our last visit. The hotel is very beautiful with a great history. The service was excellent.
