Clarion Hotel Prague Old Town

I just did a quick week scouting out Budapest and Prague for when I take my wife their next year. First night in Prague I went with a two-star-ish place and walked down by the river and noticed the Clarion. My hotel was a bit noisy so I got online and looked for a new place for the next night - saw the Clarion for only $20USD more, and only two blocks […] away (it was lousy weather and DID NOT want to relocate using tram/subway). I'll jump to end here for a second.. maybe it was an off-season, or internet special, or some other oddity, but I paid a two-star price for what I feel is a four-star hotel. Check-staff, very professional and courteous. Room - med to large, immaculate, mini-balcony (moot, freezing rain). SMALL plumbing gap below commode, which I only noticed while taking a bath in the wonderful full-sized tub. Breakfast buffet one of the best in my dozens Euro's over the years. Location: too funny.. I rode the subway and trams all over the place. When finished at the Old Town Center Square? I was flipping my map up and down trying to figure out how many connections to make back to the Clarion. Location: tops! One block from a tram line, 10 minutes walk from a metro station, one block from the river for easy foot navigation, but set back enough from traffic for quiet at night. The hotel is about 10 minute walking distance to Old Town. It is also 20 minute walking distance from the Praha Hbf Train Station. Not too many restaurants in the vicinity. The morning buffet is pretty good. A wide selection to choose from.

Booked the clarion old town because of its location --- being both in old town and close to where our daughter was living as a student. This hotel was a very nice location to walk to the attractions of old town Prague. It was less than a 10 minute walk to the old town square and about a 15 minute walk to the Charles bridge. There is also a modern mall that is less than 10 minutes away. There is a quick mart down the street, less than 2 blocks, for buying bottled water, snacks, beer, […] etc. The hotel restaurant does close between meals so be prepared for that, I only ate breakfast there. The breakfast was a combination of standard European (meats/cheese) and British/American (eggs/baked beans), they also had a variety of breads, cereal, and yogurt. The room and bed were small, I had to walk sideways between the foot of the full-size bed and the windows. The widows opened which brought in a wonderful breeze. The tub was large and deep, if you have and trouble lifting your leg high then this tub would be impossible to get into. The room was clean. Be sure to bring a power converter, they cost about $35USD to buy locally. Read more

It has all I need in a hotel - clean, comfortable room, good location, helpful staff, complete breakfast, and even has wired internet connection in room. Mini-bar with reasonable prices, as well. I asked for a non smoking room, and I got the confirmation via email for it. But I got a smoking room, an ashtray is on the table, and the previous guests of sure did smoke, because you could smell the smoke. There are black spots on the carpet (probably due to ash). Furthermore, my room was above the entrance on the first floor, where everybody went […] out for smoking. So when I had my window open, the smoke came in. The person who assigned the room to me did not thinking at all and did not respect my needs. So I was really disappointed. The standard of the hotel is low, for me it is not a four star hotel. The matress also has black spots, which you can see trough the white blanket, but I did not dare to the the blanket away and look after it. Who knows what more I would have seen there. You can hear the trams early in the morning, so if you want to relax, this hotel is not a good hotel. I have chosen this hotel because of the raiting, but since I am so disappointed, if i come back to Prague, I will not return to this hotel. Read more

The weather was unexpectedly cold (almost 0 degrees during the night), and there was automatic cooling in the room. Thomas helped us a lot by bringing us a heater :). The next day the automatic cooling was stopped. It took the service people three days to fix (replace the batteries) the safe in our room. Make sure you take a map with you because it's very easy to get turned around. The hotel is easy walking distance to old town center and Charles bridge. Walking distance to all. Tram and bus one street from the hotel. The breakfast was wonderful value. THe one issue was the Wifi didn't work in the room with the iPhone, the signal was good but would not work. Worked fine in the lobby on the different network. Enjoyed a 4 night stay early September 2012. Made to feel welcome. Allocated a corner bedroom on the first floor, room 106. This was well equipped for the price and very quiet. (Hardly heard any other guests from the room, let alone the traffic or passers by outside.) Breakfast was good, with the usual range of cereal, cooked, cold meats, cheeses, breads. […] pastries etc. Plenty of staff around stocking up the breakfast foods and clearing and re-setting tables. (No sign of issues raised about the breakfast service in other reviews.) Location was great, being only a short stroll from most of the Old Town sights. We walked to most of the places we wanted to see appart from 1 day when bought 24 hour public transport tickets and made the most of it by visiting the outer sights such as Troja, riding the 22 tram, experiencing the metro and the funicular railway. The hotel also has a baggage store which was helpful for us as our flight home was not until the evening of the last day. Transport to the airport was from a point a few minutes walk away from the hotel, just off Republic Square. Only 130 Kr/ person and a half hourly departure schedule. We would use this hotel again if we returned to Prague. Read more

The front desk staff were friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was included and was a pretty good spread of foods. There was a towel bar in our room that didn't work and the showers were quite lifted and quite slippery to get up and into if you're not careful. Was nice and close to pretty much everything.

The only downside is there is a very small lobby to the hotel, so it could be inconvenient if you were travelling with a larger group. Great location, very close to to Old Town Square which I think is the nicest part of Prague. Included breakfast was ok, lots of choice. Staff were unfriendly when we arrived but the standard seemed to improve over the 4 days we were there, and they were helpful giving directions to places. The room was nice and spacious with a good bathroom. The only […] negative was that in our 'double room' we had two single beds pushed together, with 2 single duvets rather then one double. This wasn't really a problem though. Would stay there again as it was a good price, nice and modern, and no real complaints. One tip..if you visit the Prague State Opera be careful if you get a taxi from right outside - we were ripped off by a taxi driver who charged 1200czk (around 50 euros) for a 5 minute journey, and there was nothing we could do as that's what his meter said. Our taxi on the way there had been 150czk. Always ask for an estimate when you get in the taxi! Read more

We had a lovely stay at The Clarion Old Town, the hotel is perfectly located to access easily all attractions on central Prague. As it was our anniversary, they upgraded us to the Panorama Suite, which had beautiful views from the city, a massive living room area, bathroom and bed. The breakfast was ok, nothing outstanding but the basics were covered, […] continental and English buffet. A few disappointing things: 1- WiFi is only available in the lobby, which makes it really annoying if you want to use internet in your phone; an internet cable is provided in the room for laptops only. 2- The Suite was beautiful, but only had a big bath and hand-held shower. A standing shower should be available as well, considering there is plenty of room in the bathroom! No sleepers or robe were available either, which you would normally find in a suite. 3- On the last day we wanted to find out were the stop for the AE Bus was, but the Concierge was not able to advise us. He directed us to another stop, were the mini bus going to the airport costed twice the money of the AE Bus. Whoever wants to know, the station for the AE (Airport Express) from the town centre to the airport departs from Platform 1B from Hlavní Nádraží (Main Train Station). Journey time is 30 minutes to get to the airport. The bus line AE operates daily from 5 a.m. till 10 p.m. in regular intervals of 30 minutes. Costs 60 Kr per person. Read more
