"Affordable and close to everything"
The hallways and over all building was a bit rusty with paint chipping and marks/stains on the walls. However, our room was a decent size (king bed, small table, small fridge and microwave, and bathroom), and had a nice television and view of the pool deck/city. The sheets had some stains that were a bit shady but you could tell they were clean- We […] chose not to use the top cover though. The bed was comfortable and the room had good temperature control. They had free parking, which is great, and the location was also a plus- close to china town and some really nice pubs, also a leisurely 20 min walk to the harbour. The best part was the price offered on Hotels.com- it was the absolute cheapest rate we've ever gotten, and it was right in the downtown area. The service was friendly but they didn't really go out of their way to make you feel welcomed, which was fine with us. We'd stay here again for sure for the price and location alone. Our room (#403) smelled of cigarette smoke. In spite of the sign in the lobby " Welcome to our smoke-free environment" the lobby also smelled of cigarette smoke as did the rather curt man at the desk on our arrival. This hotel is in the heart of downtown Victoria, which is both a pro and a con as it's proximity to everything that you could ever desire in the city as well as being located on a very busy road with lots of homeless people wandering around. That being said it's the best value that I could find in the area and the hotel, albeit a bit beat up in the […] form of scrapes in the walls from cumbersome luggage and cracks in the bathroom door, is pretty nice. It has a lounge with a bar as well as a fairly large outdoor pool on the beautiful patio. Although I feel that the place could use a facelift (not even a full renovation, just basic repairs, a coat of fresh paint and deep clean the carpets) it's still a fairly nice hotel. I should also mention that the concierges were very helpful and kind, which is always a bonus when you're in a new city. Overall I would say this is a kid friendly, couple friendly hotel, just be aware that even though they say that you cannot smoke in the hotel that many people do smoke on the balcony outside of their rooms so it does smell a bit musty inside some rooms/hallways. When I booked hotel in Feb, there was provision of breakfast. However, upon arrival and check in in late May, we were told there is no more breakfast and we were refunded $10 per room.
