This location was easy to access off of the 401 and every staff member we encountered was extremely courteous and calm. "Unhappy and Unhelpful front desk"
I usually stay at this hotel for 1 night, every couple few months. Usually there is a tall very friendly man at the front desk, but my last stay he wasn't there. The women that checked me in was not welcoming and helpful at all. Later on that nigh my friend who was staying with me walked to the front desk to ask her something and she caught her on FaceBook, […] and again gave her a vague reply and dismissed her. First of all I have to note that there are no good hotels in Kingston; they are also all overpriced. I picked Days Inn because of the price $109, where other hotels were in range of 140-170 at the time of booking. First thing you find out when arrive that it is not a hotel, but an upgraded 2 storey motel, where second floor rooms have balconies. Breakfast […] is not included in the price, but there is Denny's on a first floor, which we have avoided. The furniture in the room is good and bed is comfy. There were a few hair in bathtub, otherwise the room was clean. On a positive side you have a fridge in a room and a coffee maker and a hair dryer. On a negative side the heating is done by a wall unit that is designed exactly like hair dryer - with 18 degree below outside it could not cope, was noisy and I had to turn it down because it creates extremely dry air in the room and I had a stuffy nose and started coughing after few hours. Check-in and check-out is no problem; staff is friendly. Because of the heater design I would not recommend this motel at winter time. "Pros and Cons"
Everything that I need at a decent price, which includes free wifi. The only thing to note is if you are in a room with a connecting door to another room, you can hear everything as if it is in your own room. This was a fine hotel for the price (with an advertised discount) to visit Kingston if you are happy to drive downtown. There is nothing but big box stores and familiar fast food in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, but a 5 -10 minute drive to the quaint downtown and you are surrounded by interesting and more unique. We needed a hotel which accepted dogs. In the area we needed, the choices were limited. The hotel site boasted "newly renovated". We went ahead and booked. I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. This is an older hotel but I requested and received a renovated room. The front staff accomodated by request for an early check in as well as 2 queen beds. The room much to my surprise had a mini fridge which was very much appreciated so I could store some water, milk as well as other perishables. In addition to […] having free wifi in the room there also was a desktop computer in the lobby which I used to check my e-mail etc as I did not have a laptop with me. the room etc. was fine, some of the towels were frayed/threadbare, the TV didn't work, but they sent some one to make it work. The bedside lamp didn't work - and I didn't figure that out until I was about to go to sleep. "A hotel on the way down"
The hotel rooms and halls all smelled musty and smokey. The general look of the place was one in disrepair with little or no maintenance work done on a regular basis. The halls was a series of patches upon patches which were constantly being pointed out by my son. Additionally there was constantly garbage on the floor of the halls and the stairs leading […] up to my building. The toilet seat in my room was very loose and swung/swivelled as you sat on it. The vents in the room were all dirty and the door to the balconey was falling off the top hinge making it hard to close. The queen size beds both looked like huge bowls with sunkenn middles which caused my wife and myself to roll towards the centre, hence enduring uncomfortable nights, The paint job in the room was an amatuer one with the paint from the walls all over the ceiling, causing us to wonder how serious the hotel is about satisfying their guests. There was a 10% discount available at Dennys adjoining the hotel and this was not communicated to us by the hotel staff who were not friendly. They were not rude or insulting but jujst not friendly. We could hear everything that was said by the party in the room next door and their TV through the connecting door, while we were tryng to get to sleep. It was conveinent off the highway, but the room was very dusty and the carpet looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. We had a room on the main level by the pool, the balcony was discusting!!
