"Away from the bustle of Queenstown"
the hotel was excellent. The front desk staff were so attentive and nice and gave us great recommendations of places to eat and drink in Queenstown. They even cleared up a small issue that we had with room service. What I didn't realize upon booking this hotel was how expensive it would be to get into town. A taxi into Queenstown is about $42 US and […] the water taxi is about $13 US for a return trip, but only comes every hour starting at noon. There is bus service, which he didn't use. Basically, be prepared to drive into town, or to spend time and money getting into town. Oh, in the room we loved that there was a sliding door between the bed part and couch part, but couldn't figure out how to get air into the bed part of the room, so we kept the door open so we didn't sweat to death. Overall, great experience- this was the first time I've ever stayed in a Hilton. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Wonderful place to stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Luxurous and effordable!"
Excellent hotel en facilities. Very pleasant stay and the hotel is close to the airport, but situated in a peaceful area next to the lake. A track along the lake, where we could have a run/hike in the morning. The track is directly accessible from the hotel. I can recommend this hotel to anybody. Two days after us Australia's president mrs. Gifford […] stayed there! She probably had one of the top suites; we had a small standard studio for just 78 NZD per night. "A very new hotel"
The best hotel out of the 13 different hotels we stayed in NZ. A car is a must, otherwise you need to get a taxi to go to downtown. Restaurants onsite are SO fashionable!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great"
Absolutely great. Didn't even have to drive into town because the bus and water taxi run out there regularly.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful but no free airport shuttle and so close"
Beautiful, modern; only way to improve is to put free internet access in room or in same building and provide a free shuttle to/from airport because they are VERY close!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Best hotel on our three-city vacation"
My husband and I stayed here in Queenstown and LOVED this hotel. We had also been to Auckland and to Sydney on this trip and Kawarau was the favorite hotel by far. We loved the apartment style of the room and the modern yet retro interior. It felt very homey and more like a boutique hotel than a chain which was a nice change. The TV was a brand we actually […] recognized - Samsung - and they also had a speaker system you could connect your Ipod to and play your own music. The TV volume was capped at 50 which was a little low when someone was in the shower and you were trying to watch TV but that was just a little dumb thing. There was a towel warmer and a heater above the bathroom door which was very nice when getting out of the shower. We ate twice at the Stacks pub on site and it was great! Cute little modern pub with awesome drinks and great pizza! We really felt at home here and it was a great way to end our vacation. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I didn't like the location of the Karawau Hotel for two reasons. First, the hotel is located across Lake Wakatipu, from downtown Queensland. A taxi will cost about $42.00 from downtown. It's about a 25 minute ride. The hotel only provides a courtesy van for guests in the morning to get downtown between 9-12 noon. You'll have to take a local bus to get […] back anytime after the last van for the day arrives about 12:30 p.m., and transfer for another bus that passes the hotel. Then, you'll walk down a roadway to the hotel's entrance. Walking up the roadway to get the bus if you miss the hotel's courtesy van can be exhausting. There's a water taxi at the hotel to take you across Lake Wakatipu to downtown $15.00 per person - round trip. The hotel will not provide its courtesy van to get to and from the airport to the hotel - maybe a 10-minute drive away. Second, not all rooms offer a view of Lake Wakatipu and the beautiful Remarkable Mountains. There's a costly extra charge for a room with a view of Lake Wakatipu. The hotel charges for in-room Internet access but there's 4 computers at the Hilton Hotel, guests can use free. Guests cannot use the Hilton's pool nor gym. 3 or 4 on-site restaurants are costly. The hotel offers two newspapers - free. I wouldn't return to the hotel because of its location to downtown. Also, because of the courtesy van's limited service it offers for guests to get downtown and no service to and from the airport. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Kawarau hotel"
We checked in a little early and were upgraded to a very nice room. The rest of the hotel was very nice including the employees. They have two restaurants on site and a small grocer that are convenient. The hotel is a little outside of the city center and offers water taxi service to the city center. We wPpent to Te anau one of the days we stayed here […] and the location made it easier. By car the shopping area of Queenstown was 10 minutes. I think it was 5 minutes from the airport. "Very nice hotel"
The Kawarau Hotel was very nice, the rooms were very nicely decorated and comfortable. It was great to have a kitchenette and a sitting area. It is a 10-15min drive outside of Queenstown, but there are a few restaurants on-site. It was disappointing that internet is $15 an hour, and there were no amenities such as a hot tub or pool available. There […] was a small cinema and they let us watch a movie of our choice from their dvd selection since no one else had signed up to watch what was scheduled to play, which was very nice. They also allowed us to keep our car parked in their lot while we were on a 5-day hike, since we were staying with them before and after, and that was very convenient. Kawarau is a very nice place, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. However, just don't expect many other bonuses of a large hotel/resort. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Value"
We stayed there for 8 days and enjoyed the stay. We fortunately had our own set of wheels. I doubt we would have stayed there otherwise, but the parking was free. Internet - not free, and pricey, at least compared to what we had paid in Auckland. The bed - so,so. It was a like a King made out of two twins. Hmmm. And the bathroom fan is always on, so […] you had to keep the door closed. Overall, I liked the styling of the rooms, and the functionality with the kitchenette included. "Loved it...except the view."
We had a mountainview room which was really a view of a man made rock cliff unless you looked up sharply to view the mountain. I don't think the lakeside view would be much better because of the other hotel there, but since we were in New Zealand we were hardly in the room at all anyway. At the end of the day, the hotel was great for what we needed […] it for. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel but no free airport shuttle"
We stayed at this hotel for a couple of days around Christmas. The hotel is very new and the room was in great condition with great furnishing and fully equiped kitchen. The location of the hotel was away from the noisy tourist places in Queenstown so it's very calm and quied and we could relax very well. However, there is one thing that is rather […] inconvenient and I think it should be improved. There is no complimentary shuttle to/from the airport, and the free shuttle to town runs only between 8am and 11am, so we ended up paying lots of money for transportation to get to Queenstown and the airport. I have stayed at many hotels of similar class and they offer free shuttle at least to/from the airport. A luxury hotel of such class, with high nightly rates should offer a free shuttle to the airport and the city, especially because it's on the other side of the lake and not in the outskirts of Queenstown and there is a small public bus with very random schedule. "Back again to this very good hotel"
We stayed here last month and were so impressed that we returned this month for another stay. But this time we chose an upgraded room with a lake view. In all the two visits were the same. Great hotel, great beds, and good value for money. Both rooms were identical good quality so its up to the individual if the view is worth the higher cost.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
very large room , comfortable bed, nice to have a separate lounge, buffet breakfast was good with a lot of different choices. reception staff were pleasant and welcoming. All in all a great hotel and would definitely stay again on another special.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel but far from downtown Queenstown"
The hotel is nice, new and clean. Far away from downtown Queenstown. Not recommended for people without a car. I booked this hotel on Expedia when it was on sale but didn't realize Hilton added an extra $25/day as service charge. I phoned Expedia but they say it is Hilton charges the extra money. I wasn't too happy about it but the price was still reasonable […] even with the extra $25 on top. I booked the room including breakfast and the breakfast is well worth it. They only charged $15 for breakfast for two. However the hotel will charge you $35 per person if you didn't book it in advance. Everything in NZ is very very very expensive, a cup of coffee will cost you $4.5 so the $15 breakfast for two is very reasonable. I would recommend this hotel, just thought the hotel is too sneaky about their pricing. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"On the sunny side with beautiful lake views"
Our room was comfortable and very well designed with everything we needed. The staff were very helpful. The hotel is a 15 minute drive from the centre of Queenstown or a lovely 10 minute water taxi ride but the last return boat is 10pm which might not suit everyone. It is a very peaceful and sunny location and excellent if you want to escape the noise […] and bustle of the town at the end of the day. We would certainly return. "Good hotel with friendly staff"
The Hotel was out of Queenstown so we had to travel to restaurants at night as the hotel restaurants were very expensive. We were glad we upgraded the room to a lake view as the rooms on the back of the hotel have no views except for a concrete wall. The room was clean, spacious and the kitchen area well equipped, however, it would have been good to […] have a small table for two in the room so that you could eat breakfast off a table and not off your lap. "Best value for money"
Booked this hotel thru expedia and was not expecting too much as we thought booking our accommodation thru a third party we wont get best value for money, but I was wrong. The room was superb, my daughter loved it--the view from our room is amazing(Lake Wakatipu and the mountains). The room is just right for both of us--very comfortable, it was cleaned […] and tidied up every day plus toiletries replinished daily which is quite rare in most hotel nowadays. After having 2 hectic days we've decided to stay in the hotel on our 3rd day and make use of there facilities--for 20 dollars we had access to pool and spa in the adjacent hilton hotel-they have steam and sauna too which is true value for money. Since my little one enjoyed this activity including the movie watch in their cinema room, we decided to book for an extra nite and viola!!!we dont have to move--stayed in the same room with the same level of service . The front desk personnels were all friendly and very helpful. We enjoyed our stay, keep it up and will see you again soon Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great stay!"
Great hotel. Good spot out of the city. Would HIGHLY recommend having a vehicle. buses do go into the city but are not extremely frequent. We were there over new years so we appreciate they were at full capacity, but their staff let them down slightly. we had a couple of issues, nothing major and would go back but it did put a damper on things. the […] rooms were beautiful and very comfortable stay was had. The ezy book team in the reception were awesome!!! with queenstown being the adventure capital of the world it was so convenient to have a team there ready with the knowledge of the area and the activities present, and could book you then and there. a real time and hassle saver!!!!! "Excellent Hotel and affordable price"
For the price you pay, it's definitely the best you can pay for a hotel in Queenstown. New hotel and superb quality! It's close to a lake and with excellent breakfast and service. The only disadvantage is that it's slightly far from the city centre.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Solid comfortable hotel. Would ave been nice if there wasn't the $20 charge to use pool and spa facilities in the neigbouring Hilton. Small but plush and comfortable rooms. A pleasing breakfast buffet at the Wakatipu Grill.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Fabulous - will definitely use again!"
Even though this hotel is located a little out of central Queenstown - it is still very accessible by water taxi/bus/car. The setting (right on the lake front) is superb - glorious views with tranquility. Great facilities on site - a choice of restaurants, a "supply larder" type shop, hair salon, beauty spa, tourist activity booking office.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Kawarau Hotel Review"
We had room 220. The hotel and room decor is great and facilities excellent. Hotel staff very helpful and friendly. We were a bit disappointed though for a hotel that boasts a wonderful view, that our room had no view at all which made it a little claustrophobic for us. Ok for when you are relaxing at night and watching TV (not many channels another […] disappointment), but during the day sometimes when you are on holiday all you want to do is curl up with a book and a nice view and relax, but we couldn't do that in the room we had. Instead had to go to the nearby cafe, which is ok for a while but not all day. Also, there needs to be various size/thicknesses of pillows to accommodate everyone's needs. All the pillows in our room were too big. Great place to stay though as it is right by the lake edge and adjacent to a walking and cycling track which was very popular. It was so good to get out and about on a nice day and walk in such a lovely setting - crystal clear lake, fresh air and sunshine. Quiet area also, being away from the main town centre. "Worth the 10 minute drive to Queenstown"
The hotel was lovely. We had rooms with lake views. Rooms were small but nice. Only issue was that the rooms were for 2 adults or 1 adult and two kids. We had a good deal for the room and breakfast so booked two rooms. We were given adjoining rooms which worked well. The kids loved the buffet breakfast, there was a great range of hot and cold food. […] We enjoyed great views with breakfast too. We had dinner at the Stacks pub one night which had great pizzas. The only issue I really had was the inconsistency on the front desk who've may have been the time of year. We didn't seem to be able to work out access to the Hilton facilities due to this, we were keen to check out the pool. Overall, lovely hotel, nice location and great food.
