The hotel is nice and the beach and pool are beautiful. The restaurants are overpriced and serve average hotel food. The hotel is not located near any shops or restaurants so you have to take a cab if you want anything outside the hotel ($10 per person each way). "Online photos - what you see is what you get!"
This hotel was amazing. Breathtaking views from any window in the hotel, attentive staff and everything was very clean. There was a desk dedicated to finding activities for you to do And to help get you around. The only negative that I would have to say would be that some of the staff seem like they're just doing their jobs and don't make the effort […] to seem like they care, and the food in all the restaurants is just good, not great or fantastic. Also watch out for the restaurant that is on-site but a shuttle ride away, Blue something (I can't remember the name) they don't let you know Pricing unless you ask, and the bill was quite shocking Fourmile that I could get in my local town for half the price. Guest services promised to let me know when the room was ready and 5 hours later, it still was'nt. Front desk was quite rude and there was a huge cockroach in the room. "Great Hotel - Mediocre Food - Great Time Overall"
The Harbour View wing was a bit dated and our rooms, though potentially upgraded within the past few years were still not as high class as I would expect with a $50 million dollar renovation. The rest of the hotel (the public spaces at least) were breath-taking and fantastic. The views of downtown Charlotte Amalie and of the Caribbean were perfect, […] the weather was great and the ambiance was perfect. The food at the hotel was fairly average. The prices are quite steep for the quality, especially the buffet that was at Coco Joe's. It was $49.95/person one night and $59.95/person the next night and both nights the food was average buffet food at best. I would legitimately pay maybe $25/person for that quality. Everything else was great. Easy to rent equipment for the beach, easy access to the docks for transportation to downtown and for activities. The Adventure Center was great, very helpful. Excellent! We spent six days prior to Christmas at Frenchman's Reef in a waterview balcony room and couldn't have been happier. The staff were friendly, cheerful and pleasant and the food--at least at Sunset Grill and Havana Blue--was outstanding. True, dining was pricy but all dishes were outstanding. What we tended to do was have lunch at Sunset Grill […] and then pop down to the onsite deli for a sandwich for dinner on the nights we weren't going out to dinner. Breakfast buffet, too, was outstanding with not only made-to-order omelets, but French Toast and pancakes, surprisingly crispy bacon and sausage. The only negatives would be that it's a bit of a hike from Frenchman's Reef to Morningstar Beach (but there is a shuttle that's there in a flash) and the internet room (business center) is the PITS--never did get anywhere near my personal or work email and when I went to print my boarding pass for the flight home, the staff member sent to the room to assist me gave up and took me behind the scenes to print it out. "Nice hotel"
The hotel was nice. The $$$ million dollar renovation that they advertised was ok. I expected more. The rooms were comfortable, beautiful views of the harbor and downtown. The pools were nice and the beach on site was beautiful as well. I thought the communication was poor. There were things going on in the hotel that we missed because we were not informed […] about it. FOr example there is a free welcome reception on wednesdays. We missed it because there was no information about it. A few night there was a great band performing but we just happened upon it. I think there should be some type of itenerary to let guest know what is going on (like they do on the cruise ships) Also I heard the person behind the desk tell a couple that he sent them a gift to their room for their anniversary/birthday celebration. He said champagne should be delivered to their room that evening. I had told this same worker about an hour before that I was there celebrating my birthday. When we arrived there was urine all over the toilet and the mirrors were smudged and not clean. We called twice within an hour trying to get it cleaned but no one ever came to our room even after we called a third time to tell them we cleaned the toilet ourselves. "Amazing Stay for Couple looking for a break!"
Our stay at the Morning Star was wonderful. It was very clean and the staff was extremely accommodating. The hair dryer in our room was not working and they brought a new dryer to our room within minutes. Our room was practically right on the beach and we took advantage of the included kayak and raft use. Everything is conveniently situated - the Frenchman's […] Reef is a short walk up the cliff, or you can take a free shuttle, which takes under 5 minutes. We opted to do the breakfast package and were very pleased by the food. It is a buffet, but the food is very appetizing. I'd definitely recommend the french toast! We also ate at the sunset grill and coco joe's - both were good. Have a Voodoo juice from Coco Joes while floating on a raft! The infinity pool bar is a nice way to end the day. The view of the sunset is spectacular. There were only 2 things that bothered me about the trip. One of the concierge staff (while still being very helpful) was very pushy about visiting the time share property being shown. It was very disconcerting. Each time we were seen, we were bombarded about the timeshare, and it did take away from the overall relaxation of the trip. I also am having problems getting in touch with Havana Blue regarding a questionable charge on my credit card. I have called, been hung up on, and attempted to leave a voice mail, but was cut off. "Beautiful hotel with great views. Don't eat there."
The hotel and grounds were beautiful, as always. The elevator down to the tennis courts and Coco Joe's was out of order, as it usually is. Several of the walkways were blocked off, apparently due to maintenance concerns. Staff was friendly and helpful, except in the Aqua Terra Restaurant. The staff there was friendly enough, but service was very slow. […] We saw one of the waiters there pour water into someone's glass, then back into the pitcher trying to get less ice into the glass. Gag! He contaminated the entire pitcher and kept using it! We only drank bottled water from then on. The food in all the restaurants was extremely expensive but only of middling quality. Several years ago the food quality was much better, and the price was more reasonable. The menus that are on the hotel's website did not match waht was available in the restaurants- we were looking forward to having conch chowder and Lobster Benedict, but they haven't served either for years! The resort was disappointing with their service. It felt that nearly any request was putting them out. The hotel itself is probably good value for money as the rooms are large and there is decent space at the hotel. However, the kids club is annoying. You have to ook 24hrs in advance and no one was particularly helpful with anything. I loved this hotel and this location. I went with my boyfriend and we stayed at the Morningstar Beach resort. We stayed there in November and it rained alittle at night and the weather was great and there was not too many people staying there during this time. We were right on the beach and it was incredible. The rooms weren't gorgous 5 stars rooms and there were some scratches here and there but, the location was deff 5 stars! The staff were helpful and pleasant.The only other minor issue is the very many stairs this place has, however, there is a shuttle we just didnt feel like waiting for it most of the time. It's a nice work out from one end of the hotel to the morningstar beach..approximently 96 stairs. So, if you are in shape and young this walk isn't really that bad. You rarely had to leave the hotel because everything was right there. They had an adventure center that helped set up: snorkling and ferry rides to St John(St John trip is deff worth it). Our original room, although with a water view, overlooked the employee parking lot. (not good) We asked to move to a room with a better view and the hotel was very accomodating--although we gave up our king bed. We signed up for some activities at the Adventure Center, but because not enough people (10) signed up for the excursion it was cancelled. There is also a ferry which leaves directly from the Frenchman's Reef dock to Charlotte Amalie every half hour. VERY convenient. The food (although pricey) was Excellent. We stayed in the lower 'beach' portion of the hotel, called "Morningstar Resort". The setting is lovely and the staff is very solicitous...BUT.
