My wife and I have always enjoyed Hotel on the Cay. Location is great and the beach fantastic. The staff were most helpful and took care of us well. Only downside is that the choice of rooms is pretty random. Although our room was OK it was way away from the main hotel. I'ts a 6 out of 10 hotel with a 12 out of 10 location and view. This is a great place with a ton of character and local feel. We're not into resort rubber stamp rooms without soul, and the location could not be better.

The Hotel on the Cay is an older facility in need of a face lift. However, as I understand it, because of the endangered species on the island, it is very difficult to get the renovations done (can't have too many workers on the site at a time, very difficult to get materials to the island without disturbing the ecosystem, etc). If you can imagine a […] 1970's Holiday Inn, you get the picture. That being said, I loved staying here. It is all about the location! My room was spotless everyday and the staff was very kind. Very nice having your own little beach. The water taxi only takes about 1 min to get across the bay. Not many "extras" like shampoo, etc in the room but the views are really nice.

If staying in Christiansted, Hotel on the Cay is the best place to be! Roll out of bed each day, hit the beach, visit St. Croix Water Sports (located on the beach) for all your water fun needs, and then scoot back up to your extremely clean, although dated (they're working on that), room for a nice shower and beautiful view. The island where the hotel […] is situated is pretty awesome teeming with tons of wildlife, from crabs to birds to the unique ground lizards. I was a little apprehensive as I was a woman travelling alone...but the front desk staff and the general manager were so down to earth and lovely. They made me feel at home. It's not a ritzy place but I was comfortable and the rooms were clean. Thumbs up all around!

I spent 6 nights on St. Croix and luckily the last 3 were at Hotel on the Cay. The staff was wonderful and accomodating. They let me check in early (thanks, Sarah), let me store my laptop in the office and helped arrange transportation to the airport. This hotel met my expectations, which were well-informed by previous Expedia traveller reviews. The staff were superb, helpful and pleasant. The location in Christainsted harbor was excellent, very convenient for exploring christiansted or relaxing on the beach at the hotel. The boat to town runs every ten minutes from 8am to midnite and on request […] at all other times, and is free for hotel guests. The condition of the property was good; my room had some blemishes (cracked tiles on wall in batroom, mirror needs replacement, etc.) For travellers who expect perfection, this is not a good choice. But I was prepared for this and selected the hotel based on bargain rates, convenience and excellent reviews. This hotel is on its own islalnd, just a minute from downtown by boat. The location puts you right downtown Christiansted without actually being in a downtown hotel with late night crime problems.
