The Casa Munras has been a Monterey fixture for decades but now is part of the Larkspur collection. The location is great for walking to restaurants in downtown Monterey, Trader Joe's (if you need some snacks), the Wharf and even to Cannery Row, if so inclined. It's a bit pricey for what you get. Our first room was a deluxe king with fireplace. Second room was a normal queen. HIGHLY recommend the deluxe king. "Great restaurant... not great hotel"
Thought is would be a great hotel since it was a 4 star hotel. The hotel is very old and so are the rooms. Bathroom is very out dated. Had a barking dog next to us. Called the manager and his answer was "what do you want me to do"? The nicest part was the lobby and restaurant! They upgraded this portion but not the rest! Spa was totally booked! Casa Munras combines the charm of an older hotel with some of the upgrades of a newer hotel. We stayed in a room with two double beds, and they were very comfortable for sleeping. The bathroom, while older in style, was clean and functional. We had a nice little patio table and chairs right outside our door too. The hotel patio outside the restaurant is great for hanging out at night by the fire. Located about a block away from downtown Monterey this hotel was very clean and the hotel staff was very friendly. Parking can be a little difficult and the walls are somewhat thin but the room was clean although a little small. "Convenient location (w/car) - Great Staff"
We were able to drive south conveniently, head over to Del Monte Golf Course and then drive to the Wharf and Cannery Row quite conveniently. "Good not great"
The grounds are beautiful. The staff was friendly. The room was sufficiently roomy. The bathroom was large. They provided DVDs for free borrowing. The hotel-provided toiletries were from L'Occitane. "Monterey was great--the hotel was less than great"
The hotel was ok. Our room was right next to a loud ice maker, so sleep was disturbed. Plus, our room was a disabled persons' room, which meant no counters in the bathroom (to make room for a wheel chair), plus operating the shower took some effort for a person use to conventional showers. Was disappointed that there was no hot tub. If one wanted to […] use a hot tub, they would have to pay to use the hot tub at the spa associated with the hotel. Pretty lame. We opted to forgo any tubing. The only way I would recommend this hotel is if you didn't enjoy relaxing in a hot tub, and could call ahead to make sure your room was far from that wretched ice maker, and in a room not designed for disabled persons. While I think it is terrific to make sure hotel rooms are modified so that disabled persons can enjoy them, it is less than convenient for a person not accustom to the design modifications. "Not quite what I expected, however, still pleasent"
The hotel's location was perfect for anyone wanting to explore Monterey Bay and the surrounding area. Service was always very professional and polite. House keeping was awesome. My bed was always made and the room was cleaned each day, not matter what time I left. The best part of the stay was the bed. I can't remember the last time I slept in a […] bed away from home where I literally "passed out". I need to get one for home. However, the room was a bit to be desired. It felt old and was sparsely decorated. There was no desk in the room, I had to ask for a fridge to be places in the room, and the carpet was old and not professionally installed. Also, there was only a two drawer cabinet to place my clothes in, no dresser. It looked like a Walmart put-together piece of furniture. The walls are also rather thin. I heard too much from my neighbors (you know what I mean). Parking was frustrating. Get back to the hotel late and you may have to park on the street. Great location with easy access to old part of Monterey but close to the main freeway. Nice room with modern decor with comfortable bed. Hotel is a good walking distance to the old fisherman wharf but you can take a bus. However the get to the aquarium and Cannary row you will have to drive. The hotel had a construction project going on during our stay. It was extremely loud, and it started very early. When we called at 7:30, their solution was earplugs, which did not help with the walls shaking. They should have notified us of the construction before booking the hotel. The room was pretty clean, but it did not make up for the jackhammer […] going off at 7:30 in the morning. Although we only stayed for two nights and didn't have the opportunity to sample all the facilities, I have to say that we were impressed with everything about this hotel. We arrived a lot earlier than our check-in time but the reception staff did everything they could to provide us with rooms within the hour, and whilst we waited provided us with maps […] and really useful information about the surrounding area, the hotel and places to eat. Our ground floor rooms were large, clean, extremely comfortable and with the added attraction of a welcoming log fire. There is nothing negative to say about this hotel, it is in walking distance of all the attractions in Monterey, the grounds are lovely, pool inviting, the restaurant and reception staff are warm and welcoming, the rooms lovely - and although we didn't use all the facilities the gym and hot tub looked very good.
