"One of the worst places we have ever stayed!"
The only good things about this place were that every door was locked so you needed a key card to get in. There was a sweet, helpful older couple I spoke to every morning, owners maybe? Because of this couple, I tried hard to like it, but that was impossible! The walls were filthy with something (blood maybe?) on a few of the walls, as well as other […] dirt spots. On the back of the bathroom door, there were smudges of black dirt. There was a "private area" hair on the back of our toilet. One of our lights wouldn’t work because it wasn’t plugged in. When we moved the night stand to plug it in, we found a small bag with what looked like pot. One of our towels had a booger smeared across it. Our last night, a mouse ran across our floor. When I called the front desk, the lady called me a liar and then gave me attitude! She did, to her credit, come up and move us to the next floor up and apologized repeatedly for what happened. There were big crumbs all over the floor, so it definitely had not been vacuumed. There were NO SMOKING signs all over, yet it always smelled of smoke, and once in the elevator, a woman got in with us who was smoking. She walked to the front counter with her cigarette, and not a word was said to her. We were told our room was a non-smoking room, but found a used ashtray in it. My mother is allergic, so she coughed the whole time we were there. When we complained, they told us that it was a non-smoking room, and that they couldn't help what their guests did. "Decent for a quick stay in Detroit."
The Corktown Inn was not a bad place for a quick stay. The hotel is older but pretty clean. the room was cozy but for the price was not bad. We had an event at the Cobo Hall and we were able to walk there. This saved in parking fees downtown as there is a gated parking lot at the hotel. "Great location, decent room, awful public areas"
The hotel was close to where I needed to be, a good price, the room was reasonably clean, and the bed was comfortable. WIFI, but no desk. The lobby, hallways, and elevators are dirty and in poor condition, like you'd expect to find in a slum. Elevator also in poor condition, and very slow, I usually used the stairs. "Won't go back"
I checked into the hotel late in the night. It is located in a very isolated neighborhood. It being in Detroit I did not expect much but being a solo female traveller it creeped me out a bit. Plus the people at the counter were not exactly of the quality I expected. The room was dirty and the toilet was filthy. However it was the cheapest option close […] to the Canadian Consulate. It's not the Ritz, but the hotel was more than half the price of the convention hotels downtown, and only a 15 minute walk to the COBO Center where my conference was. You might feel uncomfortable making the walk at night; there are a few sections where there is little lighting, but a cab is just a few bucks.
