"Bliss after Stress"
I planned and paid for an Ocean View room. I wanted our stay to be romantic. When we checked in we were "upgraded" to a villa. Very nice but not what I asked for. "Needs updating on the inside. Outside fantastic!"
The inside desperately needs updating and the carpets are horrible. I believe tile would be a better choice. The bed and pillows were uncomfortable. The outside grounds and location make the place worth the money. They are fantastic. The Westin Hilton Head was on a beautiful location in Hilton Head, SC, with a beautiful beach. That being said, with a hotel as nice and as expensive as the Westin, this hotel sadly fell short of my expectations. When we walked in, the lobby was beautiful, but I'm afraid the rest of the hotel was badly in need of repairs. The single "problem" was that the hours of the poolside bar had not adjusted for daylight savings time and closed 2 to 2.5 hours before the sun quit. Several reviews describe the appearance of this hotel as a little less quality that is expected. I would agree, for example many of the hallway carpets are old-looking and with water stains here and there (although there is NO smell). It rained heabily one day I was there and the roof does have a couple of leaks into the hallway but any water was quickly […] cleaned up. This hotel is still good value for money, in a great location on the beach and has good but expensive restaurants on-site. They have a well equipped gym and several pools with good shower facilities in the gym. The main pool looks like it needs resurfacing of the pool itself but it would not stop me from swimming in it (I prefer the ocean which is certainly dirtier). Overall the staff were very friendly and helpful all around. Seapines is a disappointment, probably not worth the $5 car entry fee (and $1 each per bike carried in on the car) but if you have got to see the lighthouse, you have no choice but to pay. "Lovely for a beach vacation"
The hotel has nice pools and easy access to the beach. There are several restaurants on-site, which, like most hotel restaurants, are pretty pricey. When we arrived at the Westin for our one night stay between Savannah and Charleston on the first approach I thought that I had written down the wrong hotel. "The Westin Hilton Head Resort SC"
We spent two nights here on our way back from Florida. It is in a lovely cul-de-sac type of area, along with a couple of other resorts which gives it a lovely 'village' feel. The front desk staff were great. The entrance has a classy yet causal ambiance,,,I had sort of known what to expect of the room as I had read reviews - so knowing it was still […] basically a 'seaside hotel', I didn't want to have high expectations - however the room, if a bit worn, was very clean and had a nice atmopshere, I felt right at home. Beautiful luxury bedding, comfy mattress, sofa and coffee table, lots of channels on TV and very clean bathroom made for a comfy stay. Have to say, it could have done with a small fridge,,the brown thing that looks like one,,isn't lol*,,it's a storage unit,,,not much use to be honest. BUT when I saw they provide Starbucks coffee in the room all was forgiven! As for the pool area it is vast and open plan kinda thing with the hotel shaped like a horseshoe around the 3 pools, walk way to beach - with many trees, beds and umbrellas. It had a great happy/sunny/easy going atmosphere with people - and butterflies - milling around, (well the butterflies were flying lol) eating lunch, swimming, playing table tennis etc. We liked the holiday feel there. The local area is wonderful,,so many restaurants and shopping plaza's with a country/seaside feel. People very friendly. If I have one or two negative comments they would be that, as many guests have stated,,,the restaurant is very expensive! We went for buffet breakfast but decided to leave when we realized it would cost over $50 for the two of us. Also, a reg coffee by the pool cafe is $3 - more than at Starbucks! Plate of fries $5,,,you really have to go just outside to other chain or mom & pop restaurants unless you want to spend around $200+ for two days food. "Beautiful Ocean views"
The surrounding neighborhoods were spectacular. The azaleas had just begun to bloom and were bursting with colour. Every possible amenity was close by.
