The bay separates Oakland from San Francisco and the Bay Bridge links the two. On the waterfront, people gravitate to Jack London Square to shop, dine, or catch a jazz show at Yoshi’s. Gondola rides offer a unique way to enjoy Lake Merritt. Chinatown and the African American Museum illustrate the city’s diversity. Victorian buildings in Old Oakland and Preservation Park provide a link to the past.see all hotels in Oakland
Nice room, very big. Location was good next to lots of shops and food. Only thing was no hot tub which I usually really care about, but we went to see Pearl Jam so it didn't matter.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect location for an Oakland visit"
Waterfront Hotel is ideally situated for walking and taking public transportation to restaurants, bars, and sights in Oakland. The Ferry to San Francisco is easy to get to from the hotel. The bayside room we had has a beautiful view over the pool and boats docked at the marina. Staff was friendly and helpful. We scheduled a family event in the attached […] Lungomare restaurant which went very well thanks to excellent food and service. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice Boutique Hotel"
This is a nice boutique hotel within walking distance of all the nice bars and restaurants in Jack London Square. They also have a wine and cheese social hour.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My stay was quite good, but for the person that checked me in. She was not as friendly as I am used to. I felt like she was doing me a favor by letting me stay at your Hotel. There are quite a number of hotel in the Bay Area that I ca stay, a large number of them costing much less than The Waterfront, but I chose your Hotel. I would have hope to get […] the "WOW" factor from the service, but I did not. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Search For Greener Pastures"
The rooms need a refrigerator, even a small one. All major chains are now putting a refrigerator in the rooms. The location, while somewhat picturesque, is in a bad location, with poor accessibility to anywhere interesting. There are no super markets, quality restaurants, or even shopping available. After exploring the area, I would suggest a move to […] Walnut Creek and forget the waterfront motif. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location, hotel needs double glazed windows."
I don't know why I always expect hotels to have double glazed soundproof windows, but I do, and they are something this hotel desperately needs. It is right on Jack London Square, and on our first night we were treated to the very loud sounds of a very noisy Salsa Dance Night (complete with MC yelling and DJ pounding out tunes) out on the square - right […] up until almost midnight! Soundproof windows would have gone a long way to improving our evening, Also, we were somewhat unpleasantly surprised by the $25 per night parking rate added to our room rate (with no other parking options nearby), The wine and cheese service in the evening was nice, but doing it for only one hour seemed a little cheap and confining. Also, even a continental breakfast beyond simple complimentary coffee would have been appreciated in the morning. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Hotel will come back."
Room was nice with comfy beds. Front desk was very friendly and helpful. Loved the coffee and tea in the lobby and the Ben and Jerrys a short distance from hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Short visit but very enjoyable."
Room was spacious and clean. Lobby was very comfortable. I only wish there was a small fridge in the room to keep my children's drinks cold. The area around the hotel is very dirty and I would not go out at night after dark. Loved the farmer market out front but be aware of beggars wearing Northface jackets..lolGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Everything was exceptional but if I were to be hyper critical I would say to bring your own pillow. The ones the hotel provides are hard and uncomfortable but overall the beds are nice and I did sleep well.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Jo Jo was the best!!"
We enjoyed the hotel immensely. It was clean, quiet, convenient to restaurants, the ferry and Jack London Square. The staff was very personable. Food in the attached restaurant was good, morning service in the cafe was a little rough but it seemed like they were newly opened and were working out the kinks. Great weekend getaway!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Amenities were great. Staff warm and helpful. They forgot to clean our room once, but were right on it when we called. No, it wasn't a bad thing.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great room with a view!"
We had a fantastic stay at this hotel and plan on staying here for our future trips to the Bay Area. It's really convenient and more affordable than staying at a place in the City. Jack London Square is really shaping up to be a great, hipster, foodie spot too. You can catch the ferry into the City or hope over the Bay Bridge in a few minutes, so no […] complaints on convenience. The hotel staff was so sweet and accommodating. We had a little trouble with our neighbors' noise level the first night we stayed there, called the front desk to help quiet them down and they did it. That was much appreciated. Valet was super responsive. Our view of the marina from our room was amazing. We overlooked the pool area and into the marina. Finally, the associated restaurant was delicious! We had room service for breakfast and yum! We can't wait to go back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"1st time in Oakland"
The Hotel was quite comfortable and the Marina area was fun. Music and dancing outside on Friday nights, Farmer's Market on Sundays, good restaurants, and it was close to my venue. I left with a good impression of Oakland.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"We love it here."
It's worth staying on the water side for the view. I have to say the sound of Amtrak I actually like, it's never interrupted my sleep. Jack London square is fun, plenty of good restaurants. The hotel has a new restaurant, but I did not try it this yet. You are steps away from the ferry to SF, and it's hands down the best way to get to the City if you […] can make the schedule work for you. Whenever we stay in Oakland, this is the first place we check out and if the price/availability works, this is our favorite choice. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We had a business trip and the hotel was recommended. The staff was friendly and VERY helpful. The rooms were large but a bit dated. No restaurant for breakfast (or free breakfast) was discouraging as only a coffee shop nearby served a limited breakfast menu. Restaurants were great in the area for dinner. Parking was by valet and that was handled efficiently. […] We did stay a second night we hadn't planned on and they were great to find a room. So we did enjoy our stay. With the help of our GPS we found the hotel. Once we got to the location we were very pleased. We had a lovely view of the water, sailboats and the marina. "Pleasant, boutique hotel in Jack London Square"
Room was clean, comfortable and spacious enough. Outdoor heated pool was great. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Reviews which mention the train noise overblow it a bit. We were on the "cityview"/railroad side and the train sounds from the tracks a few blocks away were audible but not overpowering. If you are going to spend time in your room, it […] would be worth spending more for the "harbor view" - some of those rooms have balconies and it is a really nice view. The ferry to SF being so close to the hotel is a plus. Only quibbles are that the air conditioning unit in our room was noisy, and it would be nice to have a mini-fridge to store snacks. "Not what we expected"
I had called and requested a room with a balcony and pool/bay view and a refrigerator. I paid extra for the view. Our view was just a sliver of the bay but mainly a grassy area, no refrigerator. The hotel was having work done and wet paint signs everywhere. We went to have lunch in the hotel restaurant and were seated and waited 15 minutes without being […] waited on, we left. The day we checked in the front desk staff was very helpfull and friendly, the day we checked out not so much. Room service was excellent. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A nice place to stay"
I stayed at the Waterfront Hotel and had a very nice stay. The room had a nice bathroom, a couch and chair, and a great view of all the commuters going to and from the Oakland Ferry, Dinner the first night was at the hotel restaurant, Lungomare. Teriffic food all around. Almost wished I ate less dinner because dessert was sooo good, but I was sooo full. Only […] 2 thumbs down items to report. Since I was on the ground floor, I could hear the neighbors upstairs relatively well. They were well behaved, so it wasn't a big bother. The other is the 5 seconds of cold shower. Probably due to someone in another room flushing or using their hot water at the same time. Not something I have had in a while at a hotel. But not bad enough to keep me from staying there again sometime. Overall, a very nice experience. The staff was the greatest! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Charming little hotel, needs a little more work."
Friendly staff, charming. Nice small pool area. Dockside, in an area with lots of potential for trendy restaurants and shops. Fitness center needs some weight machines. "All around great value."
I frequently travel to the Bay Area for business. Unless I absolutely must stay in San Francisco, I try to stay at The Waterfront in Jack London Square. There are great restaurants and lounges within walking distance, and you can't beat the view over the marina. Last minute business trip for me. I felt lucky to get such a great location. Easy to find and comfortable. The staff was great!Genuine Expedia guest review
Walk to everything in Jack London Square ... Easy drive to everything in Oakland, ferry 1 block away to go across bay. Hotell did not mention they have 2 areas. We had 3, 2 queen beds with bay view . "Lovely hotel in a great location!"
This is our second stay at the Waterfront Hotel. Last year we were there for a week before our daughter's wedding. This visit was just three nights. The staff is very accommodating and pleasant. Our room was spotless. We had a nice view of the water. The first night we were there the fire alarm went off because someone was smoking in the hallway (in […] a non-smoking hotel) and there was a problem getting it turned off. However, the hotel took off the parking fees for three nights ($75) because of the disturbance. There is always coffee and cold water available in the lobby as well as wine and cheese in the afternoon during the week. Our stays there have been very pleasant. This hotel would have gotten a much higher rating were it not for the problems I experienced with the people in the next room. I don't know exactly what was going on in the rooms around me, probably people had some sort of function like a wedding and reception or the like they had been to earlier, but there was a constellation of a few rooms, around […] and next to mine, where people were partying very late. Laughing, screaming, things banging my wall. My daughter had come up to the room to visit for a while that night, and we stayed up late talking, as I told her there was no use my trying to sleep while the racket was occurring. She left @ 2 a.m., and told the front desk what was happening. The clerk came up and talked to them. They just got louder. After an hour I called again, he came up, it finally stopped. Thought they would be tired out but at it again at 8:30 am. No comp for this whatsoever, or apology. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Best location and people in Oakland"
Hotels around the $200.00 a night price point don't get much better than this in Oakland. Its in one of the safest areas of the city. No gun shots heard. No sketchy characters milling around. Great staff. I'd go back again in a heartbeat.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Laid back and friendly"
I had a corner suite. It had a huge balcony overlooking the water. I like boutique hotels because they're a little quirky and have personalities. While this wasn't exactly the Ritz, it had an easy going friendly patina to it, and was well priced... a good value. There's a ship port nearby that is a little industrial, but clean and interesting...and […] the hotel is in the midst of a little commercial area with shops and restaurants. The restaurant was really good with imaginative cuisine. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I'd come back without hesitation. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Expensive for what you get"
Above-average parking fee (there are other local hotels that charge less), and I couldn't get a straight answer where my car would be parked or what my options were; the valet basically scared me into letting him park it, saying I could take my chances on the street, but he wouldn't; that the garage just down the block would charge more. The hotel was […] a bit pricey. The "ocean side" rooms that don't have a deck are just above those that do, meaning if you leave your window open, you get a nice view of the people staying below you (and they could see right into your room) -- so if they're hanging out, be ready to hear everything they're saying. I also had a view of people hanging out nearby on the dock -- not worth the extra few bucks. Overall, being that I was just there on a business trip and didn't do any sight seeing or enjoy any restaurants or shopping, I'd stay somewhere else for slightly cheaper. Everything was clean, attractive and employees very helpful. It was also convienent to restaurants, car show, bands, and ferry going to San Francisco.Genuine Expedia guest review
This was our second stay at the Waterfront. We were not pleased with the change in Restaurant. Miss Pearl's was more accomodating, more delicious and more available for varieties in breakfast. We weren't happy that the new one only served breakfast out of a Cafe style and the menu choices were limited. Also the adjacent room news were more of a bother […] this time with our stay. "Nice beginning to a girls' weekend!"
The hotel is in a nice location within walking distance of the great restaurants of Jack London Square. Though, on a Tuesday night stay there was not much to do after about 10 o'clock. The staff was great, very friendly and accommodating. The wine and cheese reception in the evening was a nice touch and we were able to enjoy sitting around the small […] pool overlooking the water. The fitness center was also a pleasant surprise. Though a bit pricier then I anticipated, I would recommend this hotel to anyone who has business downtown, but wants a little different ambiance. Restaurants were excellent in the area, staff couldn't have been better! We can't wait to come back!Genuine Expedia guest review
The front desk and bellmen were excellent. The room was adequate but fairly outdated in terms of decor. In light of that and the proximity to active freight train tracks, I thought the price point should have been lower. The location was very convenient for my purposes.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
