"Smells"
Arriving late in the evening I was told my room was in the west wing. I had to walk outside in the dark through the parking lot to find my room. The hallways smelled like moth balls and there was no elevator. Room service for a grilled cheese sandwich took 45 minutes. "Horrible service"
I arrived late (11pm) and there were 8 people waiting to check in. It took over 45 minutes to get acknowledged. The girl working the desk never said "I'll be right with you" or even addressed the people waiting in the lobby. When she finally checked me in, she told me that her computer wasn't working and that she could assign me a room, but couldn't […] guarantee that it was clean or that someone wasn't already in there. ...of a typical Red Lion stay. The shuttle drivers were great, but attention to quality service ended there. The little things count: the front desk was understaffed for the barrage of check-ins at 10PM on a Wednesday night; explaining why it took three calls from the airport terminal to get someone to answer and confirm shuttle pickup. The batteries […] in the TV remote were dead. There was no bar soap in bath. When I called front desk for soap, the reply was "I've only worked here for two days so I don't know if I can have it brought to you..." I dressed and picked it up at the desk, where there was still a line to check in at 11 PM. "What a Joke. Customer Service was the Worst Ever!"
I was booked for a 2 night stay. After the first night, my luggage was gone when I got back to my room that evening. The front desk told me that they thought I checked out (but see I was staying 2 nights)so they locked out my luggage. there was no one to unlock the closet so they offered me a toothbrush! I tried called the front desk back and they transferred […] me to an answering machine. Tried again and they put me on hold for 10 min and I ended up hanging up. Then the front desk just didn't answer the phone. Went to lobby and they told me that they were too busy to answer the phone! And that no one could get my luggage!!! The hotel is located by the Oakland Airport so it is convenient to most Bay Area destinations. However there is quite a bit of construction going on around the hotel so access is not great. Upon checking in I was placed in the annex on the first floor. Traveling alone, I did not feel safe and asked for either the second floor or a room I the main hotel. I think most of the bad reviews were in the pre-Red Lion time when this property was known as "Park Place". Garmin GPS still refers to this hotel as "Park Place" not Red Lion. For the price, the hotel is a good value while being close to Oakland airport and the 880 freeway. I stayed in the tower, which has elevators. Rooms were nice and tidy. Furniture […] and bed is comfortable. Flat screen TV and desk with laptop power plug-ins are also present. I stayed here before and was given a room in the Plazas, which is not quite as nice as the tower rooms but they are clean and comfortable but only have stairs.
