Hotel is much better than some reviews have indicated. Hotel mgmt & staff have paid close attention to reviews & making changes that make a difference. Have made staff changes & undergone re-training. Staff is superb…all needs satisfied & accommodated. Surroundings & location: phenomenal! Despite older Mad Men 50s retro feel, hotel is nicely updated […] w remodeled interiors. Room was large, w robes, fridge, coffeemaker, iron/board, hair dryer, fireplace, individ balcony & plenty of room for toiletries. Sink was outside the bathroom but w mirror & plenty of counterspace. No tub, but not unusual for historic/area hotels. Some reviewers must b paying less for smaller rooms in far back building w limited space/less amenities. Theres afterall a difference btwn a standard room & deluxe part/full view room. If u want nice but cheaper room, u will get less for it. Pay a bit more & get what u want w a more deluxe room! This reviewer feels room was great! Restaurant has good food w nice menu variety. But, if big into wine, watch out for the wine list! There may be errors in listings of appellations. New Wine Mngr is working on correcting this. They do also need more quality wine glasses: when booking multiple banquet events, while running a restaurant & bar, they can run out of "good" wine glasses & resort to lower-quality ones with a rim. All "wine snobs" know that makes a big difference to the taste of the wine! But servers are excellent, bend over backwards, even on a very busy night! Read more

We enjoyed their breakfast buffet which included waffles and pancakes with lots of fruit toppings! Customer service was horrible, just kids who didn't care about your overall experience at the hotel. Room was nice but a little cramped. Bathroom sink was in the bedroom so that was weird.

This was my first time in Morro Bay. The service at the front desk was a little snooty and brisk. But later was nicer when we called asking if we could borrow wine glasses from the resturant. The rooms were a little smaller than I thought judging on the pictures but clean. The fireplace was a nice touch. We had a partial ocean view and the back patio is on a concrete deck you share with your neighbors. It was nice but not that intimate, if that's what your looking for. Nevertheless a beautiful ocean view. It's inside the state park and offers golf, camping, and other site seeing very close by, probably be more fitting if we were staying multiple days with more people. For a romantic getaway I'd try a different place next time. Read more

We have been staying at this hotel since the 1960's. Management has changed hands several times over the years. The current owners seem to be trying, the grounds and harbor views are wonderful, you folks are just missing it with the polish. No flowers in the lobby, lobby not appealing, bar windows needed to be washed. Looked into the dining room, not […] set up, not appealing, we had no meals in hotel. Rooms had no robes, no shower caps, small container of shampoo, no conditioner. This place can be amazing with just a little more attention to detail. The hotel itself is beautiful, but it appears that all the money went into the grounds of the hotel, not the rooms. Our room was TINY, and for some bizarre reason the sink was in the room, not the bathroom. The room was nice enough at first glance, but after that the fact that is was unbelievably cheaply done started to show (the room door didn't fit […] into the frame!). The room was incredibly stuffy and uncomfortable, and I am inclined to believe that this place does indeed give the worst rooms to hotels.com bookers. The front desk was horrendous, ignoring us for 10 minutes and never bothering with things like eye contact or basic hotel information (check-out time included) when we did get her attention. Not our first time staying at this hotel. We did upgrade for this trip to a partial ocean view room. However, when we arrived we were upgraded even more! We loved the location of the Inn. Just inside the state park but only minutes from the harbor and downtown area. The rooms have been updated with beach colors and the addition of shutters on the existing windows. Our room had a view of the bay when you were standing at the window. The hot tub and pool were wonderful after a day of walking the town!

I had booked a bay-view with a king and when we checked in they were going to put us in a non-view with two doubles. I showed them my reservation, they didn't have a room like that, but offered us the honeymoon cottage at the same rate! Although this hotel is going through a renovation, it needs to still rethink it's finishes. The bed was very uncomfortable, towels were rough, and the amenities lacking. The partial view seemed more like a non-view since it mainly looked upon an old concrete balcony with a crumbling parking lot. The second night we were there, mysteriously all sorts […] of bugs started appearing in the room. My boyfriend discovered they were coming up through the sewer drains. They obviously spent more money on the grounds than they did on the interior of the room. The bathroom was extremely small to the point that the door missed hitting the toilet by about 1/4 inch. Our exterior door did not fit properly and there was a huge gap between the door and the molding so that wind blew straight into the room. My husband and I wanted a little get away to the coast. From the pictures on the internet, The Inn at Morro Bay looked nice and was affordable. Once we arrived at the hotel, we were not very well greeted. The front desk young ladies seemed disconnected from their greeting position, however the grounds maintenance folks were very kind and welcoming. […] As far as the room/bathroom goes, the toilet was very close to the wall, making it uncomfortable to use. Another odd feature about the room was that the bathroom sink was in the bedroom. We had to keep moving the armoire cabinet door to use the sink. We stayed in a 'partial view' room. Had great view of Morro rock from our window. Beautifully updated room and bathroom with fireplace. Spottless clean. Patio in need of repair. No beach access. Great check in and restaurant service. Loved the place, would stay again.

Rooms are deceptively nice and modern with a great view of the bay and bird refuge nextdoor. Only drawback is no WiFi in the rooms and the layout is a bit funky, but still very comfortable as it does have a fireplace.

Started out with checking in, went well. We decided to look at the room before unloading our luggage. Celebrating our 30th anniversary and paying a pretty good price for this hotel. The room WAS EXTREMELY SMALL, the sink was in the room, not in the bathroom, SMALL table 2 chairs. SMALL Television..............It would have been good for the 7 dwarfs, […] haha. Anyway!!!, my husband approached the desk clerk and very politely asked to be changed to a different room, WHICH THEY DID WITHOUT A FIGHT! The hotel is in the midst of a rennovation. It has the opportunity to be very nice once it is done. We had a nice room with a bay view. It was old, but we could see that with some updates, it will be great. The view was terrific. The staff was very helpful and informative. The restaurant was mediocre, but has potiental. We spent one night in a newly renovated wing of the Inn. Our room looked out on a garden and the swimming pool, which I overheard was warm. The beds were comfortable, the coverlet was clean and bright, and the room was cheerful. Check in and check out were easy - the only contact we had with personnel. The inn overlooks water (but not all rooms do) […] and it's close to a golf course and residential neighborhood. The hotel is in a great setting in the state park and right on the beach and across from the golf course. They have remodeled a large part of the rooms. We stayed in the partial ocean view King suite with a patio right on the ocean - or rather an inlet of the ocean. The patio was small and not private as it opened onto a larger community patio. The […] staff was great - very helpful. The room was what you would call charming, nicely remodeled with clean white shutters over the sliding doors; and a fireplace. The downside was the small television, shower only - no bathtub and the mattress was broken down with a feather bed over it - that did little to give you a great night sleep. I was expecting a First Class resort. It's strips of older buildings with small older rooms. The front desk consisted of two girls sitting behind a table. No view. Rooms were hard to find and to get to. No air conditioning, not even a fan. The heater was a little box on the wall. The window shutters were cheap ill-fitting plastic. The property was no where near the photos posted on their website. Photos outdated. Heard other people staying there compalining and the Receptionist was expalining property recently sold and the new Owners were going to upgrade rooms, but had not started yet. Rates posted in rooms were incorrect. NOT WORTH THE PRICE PAID! Will not return.

Outwardly, the hotel looks great. The grounds are well maintained, the area is lovely and Morro Bay offers many things for the vacationer to do. However, the hotel is in need of refurbishing. We were placed in a "view" room next to the maid supply room. It was small and on the ground floor across from some old scows. There were maintenance people running around in golf carts and yelling. We immediately called up and asked for a different (better) room. Once they moved us things were fine. We were up higher, had a nice balcony and bar area. […] The restaurant in the bar was great. Our only other complaint: the pool needed to be cleaned (it had dirty foam on the surface) and the jacuzzi was just being put in (the only other spas were in private balconies for higher-cost rooms). Oh, also they gave us coffee and cups but no coffee maker. They told me when I asked as I checked out that they were putting new coffee makers in and they must not have put one in ours.
