"Avoid the Aloha"
Arrived and there was an overwhelming smell of fresh manure everywhere. The cottage was cold and had been closed up long enough to develop a mildew aroma that last well into the night despite our attempts to air it out. My husband called the owner several times to see if we could get some kind of heater for our room, but never got a response. This is […] not our first visit to Volcano and we were aware of the cooler temperatures. But we've never had accommodations that didn't have some kind of heat option. One of the worst hotel experiences we've had traveling on the Big Island. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Find another one."
Cold, cold and cold! Although the city of Volcano is in Hawaii, this area is cold (<50F) in the summer night. No heater in the Inn. Although my room had a humidifier, the air is quite damp and blanckets smell bad because of the damp inside air. I can't open windows which are very old and just stuck to window frames. So it was hard to ventilate air. […] If this inn has a heater, the humidity will decrease. Without a heater, don't stay here even in the summer. I don't have any inn-keeper service during my two-night-long stay. Water from the shower has so low pressure, compared to quite qood pressure for the facet in the sink. "Uninviting"
There was no one to greet us. Instead there were notes all over the place with highlights and boldface and exclamation marks. We felt like we'd better behave OR ELSE!! The room was a ridiculous "horse" motiff that was for a child, not a couple. Never saw a sole. It was clean but no kitchen or breakfast. It cost too much for what it was.Genuine Expedia guest review
"No help, No Service, and No Breakfast"
We found this B&B to be a huge disappointment. They never returned our phone calls (which happened to be the same number as their "emergency contact"), there was no assistance at check-in, there appeared to be no access to the owner, a host of house rules which we were not notified of until after check-in, and a rooster that woke us up at 4am. Yes, […] it's close to Volcano and you can have your own bathroom, but we would never recommend this place to anyone. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Damp and Musky"
We stayed in the Sushi Cottage. It was reasonably clean, but we were completely turned off by the musky odor that hit us as soon as we walked in. Possibly because of the lack of heat, the whole place seemed a bit damp, even the bed sheets. I would not stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The house of the Adams Family ..."
There is no service in this Inn, just a bunch of notes, guidelines and house rules. It is a very old place with a very musky smell and giant spiderwevs on the windows. We were staying in the Paniolo room which was overly decorated with horses, including 2 giant stuffed ones. Our room wasn't aired in ages, which made the smell even worse. I was happy […] to leave after 2 nights - to notice that by that time my clothes were smelling too!.. Please note there is no one on this property (we have seen a car on miltiple occasions), but no one came over to great us. It made us feel very unwelcome...My opinion DO NOT GO THERE, PLENTY OTHER OPPURTINITIES IN VOLCANO.... Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Aloha Place inn of volcano"
"Too loud roosters"
The hotel was in general quite ok, we had the "sushi cottage" which had everything we needed it and the owner was very friendly when we arrived and gave us some fresh eggs. The location is quite good if you want to visit the volcano national park although the few shops there are very expensive. It was not particularly clean and there was no house […] keeping. But I WOULD NOT recommend the hotel because of the docens of chickens that are in the garden, just outside the cottage. The roosters are EXTREMLY NOISY the whole night. When I say the whole night, I mean it. They start at 11pm, maybe at 2.00 am and they continue till next morning, without stop. Impossibe to sleep the three nights we were there!!! Even with ear-plugs!!! We spoke with the owner and she told us that it was because it was "almost" full moon... and she would move two of them to a cage behind the garden. If she did it, it didn´t help at all. She knows about the problem but doesn´t seem to do anything to solve it... If you go to Hawaii on holiday the minimum you can expect is a quiet night to rest and be able to enjoy your time there. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
