"Hotel was comfortable"
Hotel was very clean. Good location near the MS walk. Room was comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Location"
If you're looking to be downtown this is a great spot. You can walk to everything. The hotel was fine, a little out dated but fine overall. I would probably look for another hotel in a similar location if I was going back there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Adequate"
This is a perfectly adequate hotel. It looks rather dated on the outside and has become a little scruffy, but all the main systems seem to work. I had a pleasant room with a comfortable bed. I did not try the restaurant or any other hotel facility. I was passing through Boise and this served my purpose well. But having said that, this was a fairly unmemorable […] hotel. "Very good"
I loved that the house keepers didn't knock and wake me up to clean the room. I woke up at 11:00am was gone by 12:00pm when I returned at 6:00pm too was cleaned. The staff was friendly and helpful with finding activities to do. I'll stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good for the price only!"
We had a cheap rate for the weekend, so no breakfast was included. The hotel is dated with mustard colored walls. Carpets in the lobby and the rooms looked dirty. Our room, the duvet on one of the beds, had white stains on it. I put it on the floor for the maid staff to change, but they put in back on my bed. I tracked down a maid and asked her to replace […] it, she spoke little english, and she reluctantly replaced it. There were stains on the wall by the bed that looked like someone spilled a bottle of wine. The room phone was gross and looked like food was all over it. There was a huge water leak stain on the ceiling as you entered the room and the pop corn ceiling looked like it was about to come down. When the water was turned on in the sink and bath tub, the water was orange and sediments came out. We had to wait for the water to run clear. The beds were comfortable and close to Boise State University and downtown. Not sure I would stay there again though! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice hotel, bad location, unhelpful staff."
The hotel itself is fine. Needs a little updating but clean and nice quality ammenities. The room across the hall seemed more like a makeshift night club, yelling, screaming, loud music, slamming doors and about 10-15 drunk college age kids. This went on till about 3 am. Hotel staff seemed unconcerned and totaly indifferent. No offer to discount my […] nights stay, or any form of reconciliation. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Red Lion Hotel Boise Downtowner Thank you for taking the time to submit a review on our property and your time with us. We value the input of all of our guests. I would like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. I'm sorry that my staff didn't follow up on the noise complaint properly as they definitely should have.
"Fine for an overnight not a honeymoon"
Clean and comfortable nothing overly special nothing overly disappointing.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Bar is not bad!"
I thought the location was pretty lousy... next door to a strip bar and not really close to any good restaurants.. I was told I could walk 5 or 6 blocks to some good locales - downtown area. The room was clean though and the bar was friendly and great drinks. They have a breakfast buffet for $5.25 and it pretty much has the basics - pretty good deal. […] The pool is outdoor and not heated and the doors leading to the pool area were super dirty and needed attention. But we did use the hot tub and it was pleasant. I personally would not stay there again - only because of the location... Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Needs some work."
You can tell that the hotel is old. The hallways, stairs, elevators were all dirty. The stairs leading to the different levels had cob webs in between the rails but the room was clean. The room had had a face lift and was much better than the rest of the hotel except you could see the worn out wood around the doors. Speaking of doors they don't seem […] to be tight fitting and secure and very loud to shut and hard to open and close. All in All it was okay but I would probably not stay again. I did bid this room so it was less than the going price and for that price it was okay but if I had paid the going price and got what I got, I would have been very disappointed. "Underwhelmed"
Desk staff was very friendly. Outdated decor. An early knock on the door from the cleaning staff wondering if we were going to check out was unpleasant.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Needs seem house maintenance done"
Elevator was not working, had to use the stairs for the 4 days we were there. You would think that it would not take 4 days to repair. If you do not want to walk up three flights of stairs, I recommend you ask if the elevator is working before making reservations. The A/C in the room had a constant humming that bothered us a bit. Sounded like you […] were sleeping with the bathroom fan on all the time. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not good for parties!!!"
It was a great stay but when the people in our other room were getting out of hand instead of the staff informing us of the issues they let it go. We could have stopped the other people being kicked off the property had we been notified.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not the worst place we ever stayed"
This "downtown" location is on a one way frontage road, difficult to get to and out beyond walking distance of anything else. While not totally in skid row, it is across the street from the Charity Gospel Mission; definitely not the best part of Boise. The elevator had been inoperative for some time waiting for a part to be manufactured. Expedia should […] have known this when they made our reservation. The first room we were given definitely smelled of cigarette smoke. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Broken elevator, no crib"
We have two young kids. The elevator was broken and they couldn't get us a room on the first floor. We asked for a crib and they said it would be right up. We called two hours to see where it was and they said that they didn't have one available. Overall the hotel is decent but we didn't appreciate hauling our kids up and down the stairs or waiting […] for a crib that wasn't going to show up. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Could have been better."
It was a nice place to stay, however this hotel could use a little extra care. There was a leak in the beautiful glass roof above the entrance that dripped right on my face as I walked in. A dirty wash cloth was still hanging in our shower. The front desk help was very nice, but somewhat unprofessional. The breakfast buffet was great for the price, […] but no continental breakfast. The bar was a good place to relax with some great staff and just all around good atmosphere. To be honest, it was on kind of a ghetto block, but in a good location near downtown. "Mediocre Hotel"
The room was clean and spacious, and the bed was comfy. Hallway carpeting was very dirty and is in serious need of replacement. While I stayed there, the elevators were not in working order. Luckily I was able to get a room on the first floor, although they were offering to take luggage up for me if I would have chosen a higher floor. Cart at the pool […] where towels were located was empty, and spa was dirty. The restaurant in house called 'Characters' was a joke. One poor girl running around to help everyone coming in. She was unable to make most cocktails, the bar was extremely lacking and food was mediocre at best. Quick access to freeway. Stay in your room and you will be happy with your stay! "Red Lion Downtowner Boise, Disappointed"
Called a couple of days ahead to ask for early check-in, I was told definitely could get in be 2pm, showed up and was told early check-on not possible, that's ok, but then it was not until 3:45 that my first room was ready, after 4pm when the second room was ready. They have a 3pm check-in policy, very disappointed. The one redeeming factor, the comfort […] of the bed was superb. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Run down"
This used to be a nice hotel. It is now run down. It needs updating badly. My room was not cleaned thoroughly, as evidenced by the trash left on the shelf in the closet.Genuine Expedia guest review
"April 2012 2-nights stay"
I reserved a King bed. They did not have any and we got two doubles. There was supposed to be Wi-Fi... nope. The hot water faucet made horrible noises. The screen door was broken. But the food in the Coffee Garden was very nice. The bar tender was very good.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel OK just don't ask for coffee"
Overall it was an OK experience. I got a cup of coffee in the lobby Saturday morning. When I went down to get a cup Sunday morning the pot was gone. I asked the cafe manager and was told "the free coffe is for pilots only, that's why there is a pot in your room". She asked if I wanted a cup and I said yes. She started to ring it up and I told her "not […] if I have to pay for something I got free yesterday." She reluctantly gave me a free cup "this time." Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"The Red Lion Downtown Boise"
Walking in the lobby was nice but the clerks didn't know what they were doing. Then out of the 2 clerks 1 left leaving other clerk with 4 people in line. So it took forever to check in. The doors to the rooms were rather old with a lot of wear and tear. But surprisingly enough the rooms were very nice. Beds were super comfy as were the pillows. The […] shower head could be replaced. Also the walls were paper thin so trying to sleep was hard. Then the view of a strip club wasn't really what I wanted to look at constantly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"BOILING in Boise"
Everything about this hotel was fine except for the AC in the room. I was in town for 4 days and it was in the 90's. I turned the AC on in the room and it wouldn't ever cool down. I finally asked at the front desk and they said they'd look at it that day. When I got back to the room at midnight it was still the same. I was too tired to talk to anyone, […] so I just turned the temp as far down as it would go. When i got up in the morning, it was still the same temp. I wouldn't stay here again in the summer. "red lion downtowner"
hotel stay was fair for our trip needs. didn't have much time to actually spend in the room or hotel facilities itself. i couldn't quite get the climate right in the room, but it was a hot weekend. my wife had breakfast there and said that it was really good. there was an odd odor in the hallway, don't know if was the cleaning materials used or residual […] smoke. the lobby was very spacious, clean and quiet, which i appreciate and the staff was helpful and courteous. the hotel itself was a bit tricky to get to because it is surrounded by one-way streets. wish we had more time to explore the downtown area. "Red Lion - Convinient location, but needs updates"
I didn't know they allow pets in this hotel, it kind of smelled like dogs in the lobby. On the way to our room, there was a leak in the hallway ceiling with a garbage can half full of dripping water. That was kind of gross. The bathroom has been updated, but that's about it as far as updates go. The beds were comfortable, which is very important. They […] didn't have any "buy movies" program on their TV which we typically like to use in the evenings. Location was great, close to everything we needed. However, overall, we wouldn't stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
