Poised above the picturesque Sausalito waterfront and overlooking the San Francisco Bay is the Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa in Sausalito, Calif. The hotel is adjacent to the Sausalito Yacht Harbor, one block from the Golden Gate Ferry, and two blocks from downtown Sausalito, home to art galleries, dining and shopping along the Bridgeway.

A member of California Historic Country Inns, the Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa seamlessly blends Victorian architecture and elegance with the contemporary Mediterranean charm of its most recent addition. Organic farm produce, local seafood and quality meats are combined into Tuscan classics at the property's Poggio Trattoria, where lively Italian cuisine is spotlighted. The hotel features business and wedding services, conference rooms and wireless Internet access throughout the property. Models of tasteful styling, the property's 63 individually-decorated guestrooms boast rich fabrics and décor in shades of pale gold, brown and cream. Rooms on the contemporary side of the property feature air conditioning while those on the historic side do not. All accommodations include sizable windows, pillowtop mattresses, Ralph Lauren bedspreads, upholstered chaise lounges and Sony Dream Machines. Bathrooms house glass-enclosed showers, separate soaking bathtubs, Protera toiletries, bathrobes and raised-bowl vanities. All rooms are accessible by exterior stairs only.

"Weekend get away"
This is an excellent hotel with a great location. Lots of places to eat and shop nearby. Close to Golden Gate bridge for trip into San Francisco. "It was the worst experience ever"
I wasn't to pleased with the room and the condition of it. "Everything was great except for..."
Everything about Casa Madrona was top notch except for the noise during the night. There were several rooms close by on our floor witth guests who must have had a party that did not end until about 2:00 in the morning. A call to the front desk was useless. When we left in the morning the person at the front desk did not even ask us how are stay was. […] For whatever it is worth we let this individual know that our night trying to sleep ruined our otherwise memorable stay. I was sorry to read of your inability to get a good night’s sleep due to noise from other guests. Clearly a basic function in any hotel is to facilitate a restful condition, and it is certainly unfortunate that some of your fellow hotel guests neglected to be mindful of their surroundings despite our repeated efforts to reason with them throughout the late night hours. With that said, please know that, had it been convenient, we would have gladly assisted with providing alternative lodging arrangements. Our property spans over several acres with accommodations ranging from rooms facing a quiet courtyard to cottages further up on the hill and away from the contemporary building. Believe me, the comfort of our guests is our highest priority! I truly regret if this incident marred what was otherwise a top notch visit to Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa and hope you will be back in the very near future at which time it would be our pleasure to introduce you to the different options related to room locations on our premises.

The hotel is in a perfect location on the main road among restaurants and shops on the waterfront. We had a great view of the bay and our room was beautiful. "Casa Madrona - a disappointment"
This hotel has a lot of potential. However it seems it has a long way to go. Checking-In was inefficient. Guests will have to go up to the banquet area to check-in at the temporary Front Desk. Then go back down & out to the street, up several stairs (no elevators) to your old, weathered room. We went out that evening and came back to the hotel at […] midnight. We were surprised to see that no one was there to Valet Park the car. We were given a valet parking ticket earlier and would be charged for parking. I would not have minded to park my own car if only we were told where to park it. I went upstairs to the temporary Front Desk on the Banquet level and was more surprised to see that no one was there. No one at the desk, with other guests' information laying out in the open, plus the room key programmer free for anyone to use. Absolute lack of security. "Don't get the cheap room"
My husband and I got married in Sausalito a year ago and contracted with the Casa Madrona to have our guests stay there at a reduced rate. Obviously, they put us up in one of the nicest rooms in exchange for the business. The experience was wonderful. Every room that we visited was lovely, so we expected to have a great experience again. This time we […] selected the Courtside King because the rate was reasonable. When we checked in the woman "upgraded" us to a "slightly nicer" room. When we walked into the room it was unlike any of the others that we had seen the previous year. It was a split level room with a sitting area on the bottom level and a tiny loft area where they had shoved a king bed and two end tables and across from that an armoir with a TV. The feeling was very cramped and claustrophobic. The bathroom was nice except that in order to keep water in the bathtub we had to shove a washcloth down the drain because the drain they provided was broken. It definitely wasn't the experience that we were anticipating based on our previous year's stay. Lesson learned: always check the room first. On a positive note: the staff was nice. The hotel was under construction and things felt out of order. We walked by several doors that were open with unfinished items or stacks of things in them. This wouldn't have been a big deal except the hotel was expensive for this type of condition. "Great Get Away"
OK, for those who want new, make sure you get a room on the new side, if not, this may not be the place for you. We stayed in the old Victorian style building and it was great. It is old, if that is your style, you will love it, we did. We had a view of both San Francisco and the harbor as we had a corner room 620, I would recommed asking for that room. […] Very large, old fasion bathtub, sink. You can sit in the tub and see San Francisco. If you want everything as far as the building to be perfect, this may not be the place for you. The floor is sloped, windows old, etc, as you would expect with a victorian. If you can not get a room with a view, I would not stay in the older rooms. "Changes Coming"
Although the hotel was in an outstanding location, right in the heart of Sausalito, with amazing views of the bay, the rooms were very tired. We started in the "old" section and transferred into the "contemporary" section later. Even the contemporary section needed some tlc. However, good news!! We talked to management and a complete remodel of the […] "old" section begins next week and the "contemporary" section is also going to be receiving a much needed make-over. A new management company has just taken over and they appear to be doing a fantastic job and getting things done. They were VERY accommodating when we requested a change of rooms and very friendly and helpful throughout our three night stay. I am told that the remodel will be finished mid-November and I am very much looking forward to returning shortly thereafter. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Madrona in Sausalito. Kevin (bellhop/valet) was especially helpful with bringing luggage to room, and then collecting it and loading in car. Bayview room that was booked was about as expected, though the view was mostly of the marina in Sausalito with a look of the hillside in Tiburon (NOT the San Francisco skyline).
