"Over night stay"
The hotel had a nice feel to it, everyone was very pleasant and willing to help in any way they could. The room was slightly to warm, and we could not find the thermostat to turn the heat down. "Close to Lakefront"
The Astor Hotel is in a great location but it has seen better days. The bed was wonderful and the bathroom was clean, though dated. The rug needs updating (maybe even cleaning) and the halls definitely need to be updated. This was a great place to stay. Everyone from the front desk to the shuttle driver went out of their way to help us. "pleasantly surprised"
Based on the mixed reviews, I didn't know what to expect. The front desk upgraded us to a suite when we checked in, without us even asking. Not the Taj Mahal, but it was clean and good price for the area. The staff was positive and helpful, provided directions/suggestions for sightseeing. "The Price is Right, but don't expect much"
We were looking for something different than your typical hotel and inexpensive, and The Astor fit the bill. It's quaint, it's vintage and it's in a great location. With that being said, this is not the type of place you go for glitz and glamour, but your really can't beat the price for what you get. The hotel has an old school feel to it right from […] the front entrance, all the way down to the radiator heat in the bedrooms. The hallways are long, quite and dark at night but carry a certain character about them. It reminded me of something out of an old movie, which added to the charm. The bedroom was nothing special, but fitting for our needs. It would have been nice to have a fridge, though. They use radiator heat for each room, which you control. Consdiering it was the end of April and a little chilly out, we didn't mind. I couldn't say what the place would be like in the summer, but I didn't see a thermostat in the room. The location was great as it is within walking distance to the lake and downtown area. The local neighborhoods were nearby as well and it was easy to get to everything. Our intentions were to see a show at the Marcus Theater and a Brewers game at Miller Park. The Astor is close to it all. Regarding their service, we only dealt with the morning and the late night crew. Definite kudos to the morning, but disappointment with the evening.
