"Astor Hotel"
Overall it was an average experience. For the price the hotel was well below expectation. I will not select that hotel again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Excellent"
I had a wonderful time when staying at the hotel. The staff was very helpful with letting us know where to park. However the only complaint I have was when we were about to leave I went to shower and had zero hot water. But everything else was clean and I enjoyed stay at such a beautiful old building.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Outdated hotel"
Stay was horrible. There was a loud party across the hall which kept us awake most of the night from 1 AM on. Got little sleep. The lamp shade in our room was totally warn out, and the bathroom fixtures were outdated, with paint chipping off of the tub. There was no heat coming from the radiator in our room until we complained, and then it took 1 hour […] to rectify. No thermostat in room? Really!! Ours was atotally unacceptable stay. "Basically fine, except heater turned up to 11"
Everything basically was fine. It's a beautiful, charming hotel, except that our room's heater was turned all the way up so that it was about 85-90 degrees when we entered. Even after turning off the heat and opening the windows, the room was extremely uncomfortable. I suspect this was a one-time problem--I hope.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Marginal"
Converting from hotel to apartments. Not well maintained. I had smoke alarm "tweeting" in hallway most of first night, had to help maintenance staff identify/fix it. WiFi works poorly. Has seen its better days.Genuine Expedia guest review
"close to concerts and brewpubs"
For the money and location I don't think that the Astor can be beat, The only reason I did not give a 5 for overall rating and condition/maintenance is because it is an older building and apparently has a few moisture problems as evidenced by minor staining of the paint in the rooms that we have stayed in. My wife and I will continue booking there whenever […] we are in town overnight. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Great location near MSOE, but the condition of the room was poor. Air conditioners weren't available and had to have the be open.Genuine Expedia guest review

The room overall was nice but they mistaken my Expedia purchase and double charged my account. In the morning I complained and they fixed it but the mistake should have never happened in the first place.Genuine Expedia guest review

"TURN ON THE HEAT!!!"
The stay was ok but the problem was the steam heat. This was late September and there was no HEAT and the temps had dropped below 50. We had to stay in bed under the covers if we wanted to stay warm. We did not have to spend a great deal of time in the room and was convenient to all of our events.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Never Again"
Although the staff were all friendly and helpful, the overall condition of the hotel was disappointing. It had an offensive odor, the carpeting was tattered and the room was stark. When staying multiple nights, I generally use a dresser and there wasn't one in the room. Also, the door, although quaint and "historical" was rattly and had screws in it […] to keep it together. It was also very noisy. A couple around the corner and down the hall were screaming at each other and it was as if they were right next door. Also, there was a laundry room next door to my room that was used late at night and early in the morning (5 am). Very disturbing. I will never stay at this hotel again. "Convenient Location"
Overall my experience at the hotel was lovely. It was a little high priced for the room I had, especially because the bottom of the tub was not in the best shape. I would have preferred a little cheaper for what I received but the staff was wonderful and helpful and the location is within walking distance of plenty of things.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Paper thin walls"
The lobby had lots of detail and character. The room was dreadful and even had a WINDOW unit for the AC. It smelled of dampness or "old" if you can picture that. Hallways were dirty and you could hear through the walls like they were paperGenuine Expedia guest review

"Could be quieter"
They need to keep the wedding crowd on separate floors. Several of our family members staying in other rooms were up all hours of the night due to party people carrying on in the hall. The "continental" breakfast is weak and the coffee is weaker!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Pleasing enough"
Charming hotel with attentive staff and comfortable rooms. You won't be getting a luxurious experience but it's a fair deal when you consider the price. The only let-down was the complimentary breakfast which takes place at a small room that can get very crowded which has very few choices, most of which bread-based, no protein and no fruit.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location but hotel is too old"
Rooms very small. WiFi not strong throughout hotel. Half of hotel were tenants who smoked.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely Traditional Old Residential Hotel"
The Astor is a very charming residential hotel opened in 1920. It has been matained in that fashion for nearly a century. Other than the bathroom, the room itself probably looks much like it did when it opened. The furnature is new in a traditional style supporting the ambiance. There is a large, flatscreen TV mounted on the wall. The hotel is located […] in a nice, residential neighborhood within one block of a lakefront park overlooking Lake Michigan. However safe the neighood is (I lived across the street from the hotel 45 years ago and the neighberhood seems as safe), I felt the security in the buidling is reminisant of the 1920's and not the 21st century: ordinary key for the rooms, not an electronic one; one entrance from the parking lot gets one to the elevator bank and stairs without passing the front desk and no visible security cameras; a side entrance that one can bipass the front desk and walk up stairs. Only the main entrance passes the front desk. Being a senior citizen makes me much more aware of security. I return to Milwaukee about twice a year and used to stay near the airport, but since I don't drive any longer, I need something near downtown. Will I return? I have to think about it. "If you like older places..."
The hotel is old but has charm. It is at least half occupied by residents. The hallways and public areas could use an update. The location is terrific and so is the staff. I particularly appreciated the shuttle service.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel, great value"
This is a grand old hotel in a great neighborhood very close to downtown, and the price is right.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient"
Our stay was OK, we didn't actually spent a lot of time at the hotel. We came down to go to a concert and left early the next morning. It is an old hotel and could use some updating (new carpeting) but the room was clean and we had a big flat screen TV. It was like going back in time with the mail shoot, and the doors that open from both sides to put […] clothes/shoes in to be cleaned. It was kind of cool. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Love this Hotel!"
This hotel is perfect for our Irish Fest weekend! The shuttle drivers, Brian and Mike were WONDERFUL!! They were very accomodating! The hotel is old, but we think it is very special and will be back again, and again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good Hotel Good Rates"
This is our third stay at the Astor. This time there was a bit of a glitch over some plumbing, but the issue was resolved in a fairly reasonable time. The view from the roof top is great. We went up there for the air show. I love Milwaukee. Its a great city and I like the location of this hotel. The rates are great and the place is clean. Even the sofa […] sleeper is reasonably comfy to sleep on. Our bed was great and its nice to have a full kitchen if you are there more than a day or two. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
the location of the hotel was nice and was within walking distance to many things. the astor was a nice place to stay... however, with it being so old one must expect a little wear and tear. the astor could use a little sprucing up, but i would stay there again. in the end i got a good nights sleep and had a fun.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Past its prime"
The Astor is in a wonderful neighborhood, but the hotel is past its prime. Our room was booked as a queen size, but was more of a double. It was small and lacked outlets. The ironing board was a mini one and I had to get down on the floor to iron a shirt - once I found an outlet that actually worked. The staff was not really friendly, but they were […] accommodating. "Great change of pace!"
What fun to step back in time and glimpse a bit of history at the Astor. I only have good things to say about my experience there. The staff was quite cordial and extremely helpful. It's a fabulous alternative to sleek, stark, monotonous chain hotels.Genuine Expedia guest review
The air conditioner in the room was not great. I enjoyed staying in a Victorian style hotel. The lobby and entrance are beautiful. I would stay again but not during a heat wave.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great downtown location. Free complimentary shuttle within a 2 mile radius was very useful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
A reasonably priced, older hotel in a nice, central neighborhood.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"European feel in a quite, cute neighborhood"
The Astor has the minimal flair of an European hotel. It is very minimal but the beds were very comfortable and the continental breakfast, although simple, was just right for the price. If you rent hotels to sleep in them or you like some historic flair with your stay, then this is a great fit. If you are looking for bells and whistles with your visit, […] probably not the best fit. The neighborhood was incredibly cute with an astonishing number of churches! Also, reasonable parking and friendly staff. We would stay again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Urban adventure"
Staying at the Astor is best only for those wanting an urban adventure. The carpeting outside the lobby area is disgustingly dirty and spotted. The woodwork throughout is scuffed. Windows in rooms and hallways have plastic blinds--no curtains. Paint is chipped and peeling. The staff seems to do the best they can under the circumstances. Rooms are advertised […] for weekly and monthly rates. Self-parking was a reasonable $7 per night. We passed on the continental breakfast but it looked to be slightly above average. We had a flat screen TV, good linens, plenty of electrical receptacles, a window air conditioner which worked great, and above average sized room. The price was higher than one would expect for the condition of the property. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Old hotel, great charm"
Nice stay in a very old and charming Hotel. Came in to Milwaukee for a summer festival near Cathedral Square. Chose the Astor for location and price. Only downfalls were the rug really had seen its day, and the tub could use an upkeep. Room was dated, but clean and comfy. Beds was very nice. The staff was friendly and accomodatng. There was a very nice […] breakfast included in the morning. Parking was on-site and was only $7! Which was very good for an area walking distance to downtown. We would definitely stay again. "Great Place, but..........."
I recently stayed at The Astor for two nights. The Astor's shuttle service/drivers were really wonderful by getting me to where I needed to go and back to the hotel. The front desk staff were very helpful, and check-in/check-out times were very smooth. However, the first room I got was clean, but ice-cold as soon as I stepped in, and the sole window […] had a huge crack in it. Of course, I felt uneasy, so I went back to the front desk to get another room. So, the second room was better, but not much. I had an "economy queen" so yes, it was small. I was a solo traveler, but I still appreciate more room space. I was told that the rooms were remodeled, but the only evidence of that I saw were the new paint jobs and possible new tile on the bathroom walls with new light fixtures. That's it. But the windows in the rooms and hallways could stand to have curtains (they only have miniblinds), and for God's Sake, PLEASE tell them to get another cable provider other than DIRECTV! Also, the carpeting in the upper hallways need cleaning and air fresheners. The musty, old building smell isn't attractive for a place that boasts on its historic beauty, which can be mainly seen in the lobby. Indeed, the lobby is beautiful, and what I love about this place is the QUIET. Quiet neighborhood, close to everything. Lovely shuttle drivers/staff. Decent free breakfast. Clean room. I still say The Astor is a decent place and I may stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
