"Bad customer serivce and rooms are not clean..."
First of all i have accidently asked for one king bed insted of 2 beds. The price was same when i booked form hotels.com. anyhow when i got into to check in there was a lady in the front desk and i asked can I get a double bed. Before i even finish the sentence she was like "NO". I said these are pre booked rooms so no changes. So i went to the room […] and the quality of the room is horrible. "Paper thin walls"
I have to say this is a hotel I will never be back to. You can hear everything because the rooms are not sound insulated. On top of that there is NO security. People screaming on the hallways, knocking on doors, what a nightmare.The rooms are very old. "Worst Hotel Experience of My Life"
Ended up staying here for Sandy as a measure of last resort. Needed a place to connect to the internet and work. The sheets were moldy, and the non-smoking room stunk like mildew and musk. The hotel's location lets you almost stay in NYC without paying NYC prices. But, it is not a luxury facility nor are there very many amenities in the neighborhood. "Great Stay"
This Howard Johnson had everything I could as for during my stay. They provided complimentary breakfast with newspaper, close proximity to bus with a direct route to NY Port Authority, as well as a wonderful steak restaurant, La Fusta, right next door. "Close enough to the city to get in pretty easy"
Stayed at the Howard Johnson North Bergen the night before a meeting in NYC. It is an older building, but the staff where very helpful. The first room I was given did not have hot water or a working AC. I called and even though it was very late, a gentleman came to the room in less than 2 minutes to come try to repair both. He was unable to, so he moved […] me to another room. The most impressive part of the whole situation was the guy thought ahead and brought another room key with him so he could move me without a trip to the front desk. "OK for the money"
Check in was quick. Although the staff was not mean or disrespectful, they didn't seem to be very friendly. They didn't give a warm welcome (no smiles). No information was given about anything that would be helpful concerning the services they provided. I think if they invested in a few Customer Service Classes, it would improve their social interactions […] with their customers. The door to my room, which was directly entered from outside, was not insulated well and there was a large crack under the door that I had to cover with a towel while I was in the room. The door was very loud and squeeky and needed to be oiled at the hinges. The room was faily clean, however, the bathroom had a strong unpleasant sour smell. The bathroom ceiling had several water stains apparently from previous plumbing damage. The soap packs they supplied - the wrappings were dirty. I knoticed the cleaning staff used a beat up shopping cart to carry around toilet paper, a vacum, soap and towels to replentish and service each room. The old beat up shopping cart was really tacky in my opinion. On the bright side, everything else was good. The room air/heat was good. The bed was comfortable. Everything I needed was in the room: microwave, iron, refrigerator/freezer, drawer space, coffee pot w/ packets and a safe (which cost money each day to use.) Continental breakfast available each morning. Considering many of the other higher cost hotels in the area and in New York (where I commuted to daily), I didn't complain because the hotel served the purpose in which I needed it for - a place to stay for 5 days at a reasonable price. I would give this hotel 2 stars and I would only recommend this hotel to anyone that doesn't mind staying in a place that is way less than perfect, but bearable for the price. Cost wise, it's a decent alternative to staying in Manhattan (Though a taxi will charge you $50 to get over to NY). The hallway carpets are really dirty, and the buildings could use some serious remodeling, but I guess the rooms were decent. Also, you can only turn one way out of the hotel (North I think).
