The gateway to Kauai, Lihue is home to the island's airport, cruise ship terminals, major businesses, and government offices. Here, culture fans can enjoy the artwork and historical artifacts at the Kauai Museum. The white sands of Kalapaki Beach attract locals and tourists alike. The area's lush habitat is immortalized in the opening scenes of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The restaurant on the property is incredibly expensive - avoid it as much as possible. Plus, they add an 18% gratuity even for groups of 4 people automatically. Also, the pool towel boy is very rude / racist. He gave me a lecture about taking only 2 towels per card (I had 2 cards and asked for 4 towels, so not beyond the limit) while giving other people […] as many towels as they wanted without asking for any cards. "Kauai Marriott"
This hotel is 75% a time-share property - not really a hotel. It was built in 1960 - and looks like it. To one side it looks across an employee car park to the cruise line passenger terminal - which looks like an industrial site. The pool area is large but surrounded by ugly columns from what looks like a 1970's makeover - extremely garish and ugly. I […] would not recommend this property to anyone. "Kauai Marriott"
This property is a time share - it is not really a hotel. The property is extremely old and tired and looks out onto the cruise line passenger terminal. When the cruiser docks for the day the passengers are going to share your beach. The parking lot for the terminal is right in front of the hotel. This is not the usual Marriott standard. Don't stay […] here. Stay at St Regis Princeville - which is a beautiful property with an extraordinary view and awesome service. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect Vacation"
My husband and I just got back from a week's stay at the Kauai Marriott and our vacation was perfect in every way. We had stayed here back in 2002 for our honeymoon and it was even better than we remembered. The main hotel restaurant (Kukui's) was consistently amazing, especially the a la carte breakfast. We loved sitting by the pool every morning […] and knowing we were guaranteed to have the most delicious food. The fried rice and eggs was the best I've ever had and the banana macadamia pancakes were other-wordly. Service was always prompt and very friendly. The lawn grass next to the beach is as immaculate as a golf green and this is where yoga classes were held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9. Listening to the surf and being surrounded by palm trees and twittering birds while stretching and breathing in the fresh air was incredible. The Kalapaki Beach Boys hut has all kinds of beach gear for rent like kayaks, stand-up paddling boards, and snorkel gear for reasonable prices along with friendly, patient instruction. The pool/beach area is large and awesome for hanging out and relaxing. There is so much space that you'll never not be able to find a lounge chair in an area that suits you. And the Aupaka Terrace wrapping around the area is perfect if you want to be completely out of the sun, but still enjoy the view and breezes. We loved this place so much and we were sad to leave. We'll be back next year! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
