The Beach House Hotel Half Moon Bay

We stayed here with our two boys, and we will definitely stay at this hotel again. The continental breakfast was of excellent quality, the room was spacious and cozy. We had a partial ocean view room on the 2nd floor and had a private balcony where we could indeed enjoy ocean views, with no sounds from floors above or below. There is an area lighthouse […] foghorn round the clock which we never heard from our room, but which added pleasant sense of place from the outdoor patio. The outdoor pool was small but exceptionally clean and well heated, as was the separate hot tub, just far enough from the pool to provide a more quiet and relaxing experience. The beautiful patio/courtyard area near the pool, sits just on the beach with full ocean views, allowing guests to partake of the complimentary breakfast in the sunshine and breeze of the ocean's striking beauty. The beach access gate leads you directly to paths along the shore which beachcombers will love, with dramatic waves hitting the shore. The hotel staff was very helpful throughout our stay. It was not a good experience. The elevator was broken the entire stay and the handicap ramp gate was locked shut and the management did not have key.

This hotel is a lovely place. It was a 30th wedding anniversary trip, and our door opened up to a wonderful view of the bay and harbor. The grounds are very nice, the staff was friendly and helpful. Beautiful site and grounds. The staff was very helpful and housekeeping was fantastic. Very comfortable hotel with convenient access to restaurants and beach. We actually loved the harbor view even though we were looking for a beach location at first. The road traffic on the weekend was bad but not as big an issue during the week.

Was wonderful ! The.view was. Beautiful. The only challenge was the heat, it was either all on or all off, so from was too cold or too hot. Also we were. It aware of the 4pm check in time. Don't recommend the pull out. couch bed either. I would definately stay again!

My sisters and I came here for an overnight getaway. I felt more relaxed just walking into their lobby. Once we got into our room and had a beautiful view of the ocean and sand and Pillar Point Harbor, I relaxed even more. Sat out in the outdoor hot tub and relaxed yet more. Walked to Mezzaluna for a fabulous dinner. Shopped at some very cute, artsy […] shops nearby. Walked along the beach and the walking path by the ocean. It was just the getaway that we needed. We absolutely loved this hotel and what a view! It was very comfortable, clean and I would stay there again or recommend it to anyone I know. The only drawback I would say the hotel had was the fog horn that goes off every 8 seconds in the distance. It is not too intrusive but it is there. My husband said it kept him up a bit the first night but he quickly got used to it and didn't hear it anymore. Great view room. Comfortable bed and very nice bathroom. Unfortunately, the hotel had sprinkler malfunction in a room which woke the whole hotel up at 2:45 am. The alarm went on for 20-30 mins. The hotel did give us a late checkout.

Wife and I loved the stay. She is from the Bay area and after the passing of her parents has no home in California, it looks as she may have found one. We loved the view from our room, we slept with the patio door open a little because she loves the sound of the foghorn. There was a fresh log for the fireplace each day which was burned that evening. […] There was also a nice continental breakfast each morning consisting of fresh pastries and fresh fruit, juice and coffee. The room was like a little apartment. I feel for the immigrant cleaning staff - I wouldn't want to clean hotel rooms after other people. That said, on one particular day during our several day stay the cleaning staff did not close our door all the way - it needed to be pulled closed in order to actually latch, and I would've thought they'd be familiar […] with the quirks of the building. And on that same day they left the patio door unlocked. An unscrupulous door-checker could've stolen our laptop that day. Also, although my wife was able to ignore the tone generator of the nearby lighthouse (not an old fashioned horn, a tone generator) and sleep, I was not and needed to use the provided ear plugs to sleep. Go in with realistic expectations. But all in all, it was a splendid stay. You can easily print boarding passes at the provided computer hooked to a printer behind the front desk. Read more

we had an ocean front room, which included a king bed, a pull out queen bed, fireplace, and kitchenette. Bathroom was a very good size also, although the shower was a little narrow. We stopped here for an overnight while driving the PCH. Had a penthouse suite overlooking the water -- which was wonderful. Fireplace is with real wood (bonus!). Was nice to watch the sunset and have crackling of the fire. Tried to make spa reservations, but proved difficult and they were unable to accommodate in the end. They only have 1 spa room, […] so scheduling 2 massages at the same time is not possible. If you want to use the spa services, schedule before you arrive. It took 5 hours for us just to get a callback. Restaurant next door (Sam's Chowdermobile) was fantastic! We stayed here in April 2011 and loved it. We had a room on the first floor which I think is best because you get a large patio to sit out on instead of a smaller balcony upstairs. From here you can enjoy a nice view of the ocean and beach. The hotel was very clean and served a nice, basic breakfast with fresh fruit in the lobby. The real fireplaces […] in the room are a nice touch, especially on those windy days when you need to come back to your room to warm up. From the hotel you can walk down the beach or reach several nice seafood restaurants on foot. Just be aware that the "loft" suites do not have separate bedrooms. Better than expected, but a few flaws that may change your mind. We returned after an evening out and the lock didn't work. Worked fine when we check in, but no green light and click to get in. Night clerk made a pushing motion when I went down to gain entry in the room. OK. Went back up to the third floor and tried again, thinking she would push buttons […] or something. No go. Back down and she came up. The pushing meant hitting the door with the shoulder! Right in. After she left, we tried it without the card. The locks didn't work! I'm a big guy, it's a quiet area, so we felt safe, so didn't pursue. Other travelers are warned. Mentioned this at check out and got shrugs. There is no good foot path to the north for the major bay restaurants. No services along the path to the south. Expedia booked a King room, we got a Queen. At checkout, no apology. It is a great hotel just off Highway 1 with fabulous views of the beach and water. The location presents 2 issues, however, the first that it really is right off Highway 1 so there is some traffic noise and secondarily it is located quite a distance from the town. But if you want the ocean and great seafood - this is your spot.
