Overlooking Hilo Bay, the Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel enjoys a beautiful location in Hilo, Hawaii. Hilo is a quaint, flower-filled retreat with Victorian homes and a restored downtown area that experiences more rain than any other American city. The Big Island of Hawaii offers a plethora of recreational opportunities. From surfing and scuba diving to volcano and waterfall exploration, there is something for everyone. Old banyan trees line the drive to the hotel, most of which were planted in the 1930's by celebrities such as Babe Ruth, Amelia Earhart and Cecil B. DeMille. Mauna Kea looms in the background and the arched bridge that leads to Coconut Island is only steps from the doors of the resort. The hotel is flanked by a beautiful beach, the Liliuokalani Gardens and the Naniloa Country Club.
Hotel Features.
The hotel's bayside pool is surrounded by a large sundeck and lounge chairs. Massages and beauty services available. The hotel staff provides concierge services, business services and currency exchange. Safe-deposit boxes are located at the front desk and laundry facilities are available.

All rooms at the hotel feature lanais and views of Hilo Bay or the enormous banyan trees out front. Cable television is standard and high-speed Internet access is available for a surcharge. Queen's Court Restaurant - Decor includes artwork celebrating the grace and beauty of hula dancing. Warm wood tones and panoramic views of Hilo Bay. Serving breakfast daily and dinner Monday - Thursday. Offering popular dinner buffets on weekends.
Waioli Lounge - Music or karaoke, appetizers, and tropical drinks are the attractions at the lounge, along with a splendid view of Hilo Bay.
A breakfast buffet is served daily from 6:30-9:30 a.m. in Queen's Court Restaurant.

Sugar was once king in Hilo. Now, the town is known for its bay, shops, and farmers market that teems with exotic fruit. Swaying hips abound at Hilo’s Merrie Monarch Festival, a week-long hula contest held after Easter. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is nearby. There, Kilauea is the hottest attraction as one of the world’s most active volcanoes. At its helm is Pele, the Hawaiian volcano goddess.

"Good View, but Watch Out!"
Getting an ocean view room is worth it--and the staff was helpful when we decided to upgrade to one. But they don't tell you that the dinner and breakfast buffets are VERY overpriced. "Old decor, decent location"
We stayed here 4 nights in mid-December. We chose it for the location and were happy with how easy it was to get around. Yes, it is old & the decor is tired. However, the beds were decent, the parking is free, and it was clean. The cafe that is next to the Queen's Buffet (or whatever it was called) had some really good petite treats for breakfast that […] I was happy to pay for (fruit tarts were delicious). The lobby gets very busy because that is where the wifi is free. My only complaint stems from when I needed to book my 4th night. We had actually checked out after 3 nights and went to stay at the volcano national park. Due to unacceptable conditions there, I called around 8 PM and asked if they had rooms left. The gentleman said there were probably 20 rooms left and to come on back. So, we drove back to get a room. The young lady behind the desk told me they didn't have any rooms WITHOUT looking at her computer. She just kept shaking her head saying there was no availability. I finally said, "I just called 45 minutes ago and was told you had 20 rooms." Then, she checked her computer and found 7 room available. She got us booked and we stayed another night. Overall, if I was to go back to that island I would stay there again. The farmer's market downtown on Wednesdays and Saturdays was quite fun to walk through and was where we bought all our unique souvenirs and gifts. The Banyan trees are gorgeous. "Romantic getaway"

"Nothing fancy, but gets the job done"
We stayed in HIlo for one night before heading over to the Volcano's National Park (came in from Kona). The hotel was really nothing special, but the receptionist was incredibly friendly and very helpful with providing maps, directions, a room with a water view, etc. Free parking is always nice, and it's conveniently located relatively near 'downtown' […] Hilo. This hotel is very dated. For 2 adults we got 2 towels, and 2 small pillows for a king size bed. No blow dryer in the bathroom. They cater to a large tourist bus crowd. The location may have been at one time in a prime location, but is now in a very depressed area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

In all of our Castle Resorts & Hotels properties we provide our beautiful compendium placed on the bed which explains the amenities we provide for all of our valued guests like you. Extra pillows are in the vanity area shelf and more can be requested with housekeeping. We also provide irons, ironing boards, and blow dryers at no extra charge. We are also in the process of refreshing our guest rooms with the model rooms being worked on as we speak. Refreshing of our guest rooms are scheduled to begin in mid-April of 2013. I am positive all of our guests will enjoy our efforts.

"Walking distance to Waikiki."
We stayed here only one night after we returned from the Big Island, so we could be near the airport to fly out the next day and also be near Waikiki to do some last minute souvenir shopping. The hotel's location is okay.. It's kind of a hike to get to where the action is on the beach walk. The staff was pleasant, friendly, and helpful. The rooms, though […] they were clean, had ancient furnishings and seemed delapitated. The hotel itself is old. Like, really old. Everything looked like it was sent straight from the 60's. "Castle Hilo Hawaiin Hotel"
Got here late at night with an early morning flight the following day so did not really have time to critically check everything. Impressive lobby. Like some other reviewers i did see one of the largest cockroaches i have ever seen but it was in the lobby which is open to the elements. Room was spacious and bed was comfortable. Both bathroom and furniture […] in room slightly dated but acceptable and was definitely clean. Halls do smell old so carpets do need a good shampoo and vacuum. Still has old crt tvs which in this room was oddly placed on a stool on the side of the room. I would stay here again if i get competitive rates but paying full advertised rate may be a bit too much. "Good hotel, esp for the price"
For the price, this hotel is a great deal, esp given Hilo does not have many big hotels. The overall location is good for heading up to Waipo Valley and down to the volcanos. Free parking is nice as well. Definitely pay extra for an ocean view. I got one up on a top floor and the view of the bay and mauna kea in the distance were great. "Great hotel and worth the price!"
The staff was helpful and friendly, the breakfast buffet was a bit pricey, but worth it. The room was clean, lovely and comfy. The location is a bit outside of downtown Hilo, but only a few minute drive. Plus the banyan trees on one side and the bay and gardens on the other side are lovely. "Nicest hotel in Hilo"
The Hilo Hawaiian is a nice place to stay and the ocean view is worth the upcharge. The room is nice but the daily charge for internet was a shocker, I have never been asked to pay for internet before. The location was great which makes it convienient to eat out, since the hotel food is way overpriced for the mediocre quality. The Ono dinner was dry […] and small, the philly steak sandwich is the size of a hotdog (a small one); and the COLD breakfast buffet is a joke, however the staff is willing to microwave it if you ask. Old hotel, long past its prime. TV is a 17" old tube type sitting on a small table with home made turn table, very sad... no wifi, but if you buy something next door at Uncle Billies and get their access code, their signal is strong enough to maintain connection during hotel stay. Bath fixtures old,, door hinges rusted, this place defines the term deferred […] maintenance, This place isn't keeping up with the times, needs flat screens and WiFi, restaurant overpriced, food quality just average. First and last visit here! Unless they totally refurbish. Staff is unhappy, no raise in two years, full timers cut to part time, part timers to casual as needed labor.
