If you want a very basic room and plan to spend your money exploring the island, this hotel is fine. It does need to be renovated...there are cracks in the wall and the carpet us shabby. But it was clean. The location is good. The parking is limited. The 2nd floor and above are quiet.

You can hear the birds and animals at night. It's hard to sleep. The hotel is old and need upgrading. Hotel staff are helpful. Free breakfast was okay. You can hear the planes from the runway. The air condition was noisy. The exhaust fan in the restroom was noisy, like an airplane taking off.

Old and moldy chairs on the balcony. Inside smelled of mold. The pillow smelled of sweat. I asked for more sheets because when I looked under ours there was human hairs of some kind on the mattress cover, The hotel staff was very pleasant and helpful. I would highly suggest investing in cleaning the rooms but that would mean removing the carpets and […] mold. Completly redo the bathrooms. We remained there for our 2 night stay only because of the staff. The surrounding garden areas and views were beautiful but the rooms did not stand up by comparison. Hotel is in sad shape. It hasn't seen upgrades in decades. It has only DOUBLE beds. Nothing else. Staff was good tho. It is right on the bay and central to many sights. Without proper maintenance I personally don't think this hotel will be around much longer. The hotel is taking a beating from the ocean. Area around hotel lacks good eating places within walking distance. Sound of tree frogs until 2 in the morning was different. Front desk staff were very nice. Almost time to retire Uncle Billy's, Hilo.

The surroundings are beautiful but the hotel itself is old and it looks it. The room smelled dirty. The bathroom's vent was a rusty hole that made too much noise. You get what you pay for, however, there aren't many hotel choices in the area. At least this hotel had a continental breakfast (lots of carbs). It looks like they may be trying to fix the place up some but the sink had rust around the facet, but a nice counter top. The ceilings had mold and the squares didn't all fit well, which made me wonder if […] there were cameras up there or something. The bathroom (toilet & shower) hasn't been updated in about twenty years (moldy grout and old tub). The refrigerator froze everything, including my insulin in a matter of about 6 hours. There are basically no real windows and the birds outside are VERY loud for most of the night. The screens are covered with frosted, plastic slates that you can close if you want to turn on the air conditioner. We stayed on the third floor and when you get out of the musty smelling elevator the carpet is very dirty and worn. The hall walls & ceilings are falling down and you can see rust (I think) where there should be plaster. If they had a pool I don't know where it was and probably would not have been interested. We just stayed the night because we got into the airport late and wanted to do some Hilo sightseeing before heading over to Kona. I didn't have high expectations after reading the reviews. I can't even say it is as good as a Motel 6 back home. I must say the staff were all very good and did their job well and seemed very committed. Read more

"Established 1968", no apparent renovations since then. Towels were not clean, lots of ants in the room, and my wife discovered a cockroach when she went into the bathroom to shower! The price was right, and hard to place blame considering "you get what you pay for".

"You get what you pay for" applies to this establishment. We didn't spend much time in the room or on the grounds. Breakfast was free, but very limited. The General Store on the property is your best bet for quick food. Good location to explore the east coast, just don't expect a lot by way of amenities. Uncle Billy's earns my first hotels.com ranking of "1" in any catagory. You've got to try to get a "1" or a "5" to me. I found Hilo to be a town that's seen better days. There's a lot of run down buildings and run down people. Local attire was as filthy as the rooms at Uncle Billy's: holey stained shirts and shorts. All nearby bars within walking distance […] of Uncle Billy's was closed down. I drove downtown and found an equally lack-luster entertrainment/cultural scene. But this would give Uncle Billy's a rating of "2" for location (note, it's gets "5" for CONVENIENCE of location due to proximity to airport, that's different). It's old and it's inexpensive and convenient but can't they update one room at a time maybe a little bit? The bathroom looked like it was from the 60's with the same fixtures. It smelled so strong of urine I didn't want to take a shower there. It was pretty much just a place to sleep over night and leave.

This hotel is one of the least expensive in the area and you get what you pay for, no more, no less. The hotel is run down. I did not take the lobby elevator during my stay because it smelled. Hotel is Old Hawai"i and probably hasn't been Cleaned, Dusted and Updated since then. The Carpets are stained everywhere you look, the Chandeliers have Cobweb Dust Ropes hanging from them. The Beds are uncomfortable, the AC units are Oll and Loud. The staff is nice but not very knowledgable about places/things going on in the area. The "Aloha Breakfast" […] is the standard Toast/muffin Continental with papaya for the fruit and tropical juice instead of OJ. Nice lanai. On-site convenience store/snack bar was handy. Free wifi worked well. Location on Banyan Dr, which seems to be the "hotel row" of Hilo was unremarkable since most accommodation in town is there. Friendliness of staff was variable. Although the bedroom area of the room seemed clean, the bathroom area was not . I'm a frequent traveller and […] usually stay in budget hotels but I've never seen the likes of the gunk around the sink taps . The floor of the bathroom also could have used a good scrub. it's a shame since this place has a real quirky charm - i.e. in decor of the lobby and landscaping of garden/pool areas. 初老男の気儘な一人旅。ワイコロア拠点の一周ドライブの途中１泊。 時期も悪く(11月下旬)雨模様で、ヒロの町も死んだよう。そんな気分で訪れたからか、ホテルもちょっとガッカリ。 建物は古く、ドアは隙間だらけ。エアコンは窓に付ける一体型の古いタイプで、やたら騒々しい。部屋に不潔感はないが、ただただ古ぼけている。値段相応といえば言えるが、安かろう悪かろうでは今の時代は厳しいのでは?ホテル名が醸し出すフレンドリーさもなく、正直もう泊まらない。 立地は良い。公園も近く朝の散歩コースはバッチリ。特にホテル前の道の場にあんツリーの巨木の並木は素晴らしい。ただ、夕刻になるとこの期に夥しい数の鳥たちが集い、その鳴き声の喧しさは凄い。静かに眠りたい人にはこのエリアは辛いかも。ただ、街の喧噪よりはいいかも。

ヒロでお手頃で泊まれるところと思い、1泊しました。 チェックインを済ませキラウエア火山に行き、地球のエネルギーにびっくりしながら夕飯をすませてホテルに戻ると駐車スペースがありません。 どうしたらいいか尋ねると前の道路に停めるしかないとの事。 レンタカーでもあるし、何かあっても困るしと思ってもホテルのスタッフはなにもしてくれませんでした。　　英語力も強くないのでなおさらなのですが・・ 結局、雨の中を主人がずっと駐車場があくのを待って駐車することが出来ました。 環境的には静かだと思うのですが、なにかの鳴き声の大合唱が結構すごかったです。　あれはなんだったのでしょうか？カエル？？？

Das Zimmer lag mit nicht verschließbaren Fenstern zur Wasserseite mit den lautesten Fröschen Hawaiis, die die halbe Nacht um die Wette quakten. Ohrenstöpsel halfen nicht. Das Nachbarzimmer war durch eine Tür abgetrennt, unter der 5 cm ein Freispalt war, das Licht des Nachbarzimmers schien sozusagen in mein Zimmer.
