"OK but will not return."
The Tryp is a 3-star business type hotel that has the added benefit of family rooms which are rooms with bunk beds. There is nothing inherently wrong with the Tryp, it is a functional and clean hotel. The staff is very professional and courteous. The biggest things that bothered us was the noise, lighting and decor of the rooms. We were on the second […] floor with a window that faced a brick wall so very little natural lighting. The lighting in the room was oddly located all harsh over head lights except for a desk lamp, some floor lamps might have softened the lighting in the room. Noise was another issue, since we were on the second floor we could hear the heavy thumping bass of the lounge or bar nearby each night. The air vent would also occasionally kick in and it was very loud, louder than I've experienced at other hotels. While the beds, towels and linens were comfortable the rest of the decor was as my kids described it, it feels like an IKEA hotel room. Plastic upholstered couch and desk chair seats are not four star. The Tryp was functional for our 2 night stay in New York but we will not return. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
had a first floor "sample" room that had no heat and looked out to a brick wall. after several complaints to the front desk and no increase in heat in the room, they moved us to a room on the 15th floor that was wonderful. i just wonder, do they put you in the "sample" rooms if you book online?Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not too pricey and conveniently located but..."
While the other reviews are correct in stating this hotel has a funky vibe and a very nice staff, the execution of the important details is lacking. The choice of A/C units is questionable to say the least. While the thermostat gives the option to select fan speed, all the unit runs at is full take-off power. Very glad I brought some ear plugs...speaking […] of which, the noisy A/C unit forces your neighbors to blast the TV to hear over the fan noise. So now you are hearing the noise from your room and the neighbors, whose conversations you can follow if they have the adjoining room via an interior door. How could the housekeepers or other guests not notice and report the very loud squeaking coming from the bathroom door hinges? This is such a simple fix yet it went unreported or just wasn't repaired. In the end, this was a less-expensive hotel a very short walk from Penn station yet I can't recommend this to a friend because of the above complaints. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
