The East Village has long been an incubator of the arts, capturing the rhythm of New York as reflected in musical and poetic verses from jazz to punk rock, from the Beats to the Nuyoricans. The neighborhood boasts Manhattan's highest concentration of bars along with diverse choices for dining and shopping as exemplified in the 3-block span of St. Mark's Place.see all hotels in New York

it was adequate for a single male occupancy in a great part of new york city very accessible and close to the manhattan bridge and all lower east side. "You get what you pay for (which isn't bad..)"
Considering your staying on NEW YORK, this place is a steal. Keep in mind you get what you pay for. This place is in the mold of a HOSTEL. All your really using this place for is to rest and recharge, literally! Your provided a small sleeping quarters with a bed, a small open closet, plug for charging electronics, and WiFi. There is a group of bathrooms […] on each floor that you share with XX number of people. (Showers included) This place is not for the person that is not used to bare minimum conditions. But if you wan to save a bunch of money and use this as just a place to sleep then it's a great compromise. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The room was not spacious, just a bed, a bedside table and a miror. The bed was confortable. The sheets were not very clean. We had to share the bathroom, which was not clean. But that's alright, the hotel was well located, and I was in the room a very short time, I do not except any luxury considering the price I've paid.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect for the price and location"
Very clean and tidy hotel (rooms and bathrooms), good positioning in the city close to excellent restaurants, bars and sites. Anyone that gives it a bad review shouldn't be expecting a 5 star hotel for such a cheap price in new York city.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Cheapest hotel in Manhattan"
Everything is in the title, this hotel is the cheapest in manhattan ! If you want to do a trip in New York without so much money, you will need it ! The rooms are terribly little, with a common just correct bathroom and minimal service. But for this price, everything is really OK. We took a private room, there was TV, a clean bed and a sink. There are […] home people 24/24 who are convenient, can keep your luggages and give advices. If you got the money to take a better hotel, don't go to sun bright ! If no, you can ! Great place to have a room while you tour the city and visit family. Accessible to EVERYTHING!! Bathrooms could be closer but having the sink in the room was a nice surprise. It gave us the necessities we needed for our short trip. Price was good too!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location and did the job"
For the price and location, this was worth it. Because of the reviews and the low price, I was concerned that it could be scary or gross. It was neither. The guests were tourists and the bathrooms were cleaned every day. Other than that, it was stark. Our double room had only a bunk bed. It was tight, but though the two of us fit in one bed. The common […] bathrooms get dirty by morning, but no big deal. It was tiny. We had no window and no room for a chair. There were noisy people. But who cares. It was NYC. "A Barracks In the "Big Apple"."
For $49.00/night obviously one should not expect the Plaza & this is far from it. Assuming all you need is a bed and a place to shower this is OK. "Good for just sleeping"
Well what I read in the previous reviews of other visitors I though it was gonna be worse than I though. But it seems ok but definitely not no five or four or even two stars lol. But again the rooms are tiny, like a 10 feet long and 5 or 6 feet wide. I only slept and that was the reason I got it since I didn't even stay in the room during the daytime […] since I wanted to see the Big City. Like the othere reviews said there is shared bathrooms on all floors and I was on the 5th floor so if you can't walk up stairs then find somewhere else since this place doesn't have a elevator, so if you just looking for a place to sleep and not worried bout five star cleanliness or service and don't mind sharing bathrooms then this is the place for you :) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A hostel is simply basic accomodation"
If you keep in mind this is a hostel and not a hotel, it is okay for basic accomodation, in Chinatown which means good eating if you're at least open to trying asian food. The bathrooms are usually clean, water was never hot but lukewarm...meaning usable.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great for one night bachelors stay"

"not pretty but gets the job done"
my stay was pleasent. the rooms were good, small but had a bed and locked door. the bathrooms were disgusting, fesise and mold just need to be cleaned a few times rather than the one time a day that they do. if they did that this place would be great for the price and locationGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"It was ok"
The area I slept in was clean but the toilets were busted and had stuff coming out of them when I had to take a shower. The working bathrooms were downstairs and clean but, they weren't on the same floor. The area i slept in was clean but this is a "chicken coop" motel, meaning you don't have to see other people but you can hear them because there is […] chicken wire above the tiny, tiny, sleeping places. "Worth the cost"
So I saw a lot of complains about this place. It is not a hotel for sure. However, the description of the hotel was pretty clear that the rooms were dorm style. If you're visiting New York City, this place has excellent price compared to everything else in the city. Plus, it's located in Chinatown, very close to Little Italy, and the surrounding area […] is safe. So if you're looking for all the luxury of hotels, this is not the place for you. Not very good Hotel, but good for price. If you go alone and you don't have problems with noise, it is good for you. Reasonably clean tiny rooms. It is difficult to find something cheaper.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is good only if you're just trying to lay your head somewhere for the evening. Although my room or "cell" was clean there was literally only room for me to lay my stuff on the floor and the bed to lay on. "ok for those who only want a cheap place in the center of manhatten"
Basically, everything's written that you finde by just using google is true. The hotel is kind of scary, semi-private rooms means you don't have a acutal room but a kind of cell that does not have a top, so it's bright in your "room" all time and never silent. The restrooms/showers a way too few and altough they at least get cleaned never really clean […] and disgusting. BUT: if you're a student, want some adventure it's ok for one or two nights. Probably the cheapest place in THAT location (that is really cool, you can walk from there easily to each point in Manhatten) Nobody should expect more for that price. "Hotel for sleeping in a 5x8 walled open ceiling cubicle only. bring TP or you'll have to ask for it"
For my needs this hotel was okay. Only the 2nd and 5th floors are habitable. You would walk away if on the 3rd or 4th floor as they are absolutely gross. My cubicle was clean, the linen fresh, had to ask for a new towel and there was no linen service. Minimal storage so you will be in and out of your suitcase. Only two small shelves and five coat hooks. […] There are 5 small bathrooms on my 5th floor. They are clean at first but sloppy patrons soon have them messed up. One toilet didn't flush it away, toilet paper scarce after noon. have to ask for it as they don't come check. Overall, staff was cordial. Late nite arrivals often are noisy and since there is nothing but wire mesh on top of your cubile you will be awakened. Just yell out to "shut the hell up". German and Scandanavian guests were the most rude and disrespectful of late night quiet. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Better than camping and not quite a pensione"
Perfect for the young guy traveling on a budget. Let me paint you a picture...This semi private dorm is five flights up with no elevator and a stone's throw from Little Italy. This converted old warehouse has 12 foot, tintype ceilings, complete with peeling paint. The rooms are freshly painted, 5 x 8 feet cells with a single matress along the wall and […] a 1- 1/2 foot walkway to the locker. All rooms come with a door and a "do not disturb" sign. The walls are 8 feet high and chicken wire serves as the buffer between you and the 12 foot ceilings. Towel, soap, toothbrush, shampoo, slippers and toilet paper are provided to use in one of several bathrooms with showers. I never had to wait. A free computer with Internet is also available and the room was air conditioned over that hot weekend. It's not the cleanest place and not filthty, either. Patrons were respectful, quiet and I was surprised I didn't get lynched with my heavy snoring. I think they have a white noise to mufflle loud sounds. Closests subway stations are either Prince Street or Canal Street. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

If it's just about staying for the night in the city for a decent price it's good. Don't expect a five star hotel and don't expect to have a nice shower if it's the shared bathroom. "Room size & cost is perfect, but hotel is filthy."
1. I really liked the room size: a bed; I didn't get the feeling I was paying for space/furniture/services that I really didn't need for a 5 day stay. 2. The fact the roof was chicken wire didn't bother me; however, sometimes floormates talked past midnight and this kept me awake. Consider bringing ear plugs. Regardless, I felt very secure. 3. The huge […] disadvantage to the hotel is the hygiene. The 3rd and 4th floors were disgusting (they smelt, there was filth all over their walls, there was a cat and kitty litter on one of those two floors, etc.); I don't think they put people from hotels.com on those two floors though. Regardless, you may want to ensure you are put on the 5th floor, where it is quite a bit cleaner (but still pretty filthy). The bathrooms were only somewhat dirty. The bedsheets were stained. In light of all these hygiene problems, I'd recommend bringing the following: sleeping bag and pillow (don’t use the sheets), sandals for the shower, coat hangers to hang up your clothes when you use the shower, and a small cup (the sinks are small so you can't fit a bottle under the faucet; use the cup to fill a bottle). 4. I'd recommend the hotel if you don't really care about staying in a filthy dump for a few nights at a very low price. Honestly, I wish there were more a-small-private-room-with-just-a-bed hotels like this one; however, I would want them to be a lot cleaner. 5. Almost forgot. The wifi was quite hit-and-miss. Sometimes it worked. Often it didn't. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
