Opened in 2009, the contemporary Doubletree Hotel New York City-Chelsea provides a central location for enjoying the Chelsea neighborhood's boutiques, galleries, and nightlife. Many of Manhattan's popular sights are within easy reach as well. We came for a concert at Madison Square Garden which is located right next to Penn Station (I chose this hotel for its proximity to MSG). Room was clean, comfortable, and quiet...until morning when three housekeepers decided to have a conversation outside our room. Desk staff were friendly, but others didn't go out of their way to help. I was surprised when the guy at the door looked at the few bags I had on a luggage cart and said something like, "I was gonna ask if you needed help but […] it looks like you got it" and let me pass. The staff at the much more expensive hotel we stayed in off Times Square wouldn't let me carry a single bag but here, I struggled with the cart in the ridiculously small elevator and narrow hallways, then had to wait 15 minutes for an elevator empty enough to return the cart to the lobby. Room was little small for us. There isn't enough space to open two suitcases. There are two elevators, but in the morning or late afternoon it is crowdy and had to wait.
