You can also walk a half-mile up Broadway to Times Square, where the TKTS booth, at Broadway and 47th Street, sells discounted tickets to Broadway shows. "Great hotel for family and midlocation of New York"
We just stayed here for Thanksgiving. Couldn't ask for a better located hotel! I am not familiar with the area, and wasn't sure what my family of 5 would be getting, but we were pleasantly surprised! The room was very clean, larger than expected--but the couch does not pull out into a bed. I thought it did. My middle daughter fit there though so we […] just got extra blankets, and put them on the couch. A mini fridge is in the room, but no microwave. The continental breakfast is literally--bagels, mini muffins, green apples, coffee and juice. It's included though! We did pack some food because my youngest is picky. Bring some bowls, spoons, and cups if you expect to eat in your room. They do not have an in house kitchen. I really did have a good stay, the people working there were exceedingly friendly and helpful!! The room was clean and roomy. We really enjoyed this hotel, it was very clean and comfortable, luxury bathroom, close to shopping mall. Many Chinese restaurants close by and a 24 hour deli/convenience store right across the street. "Hotel Stanford--great location, all you need"
We picked this hotel because it was only a few blocks from the Megabus stop, allowing us to quickly drop off our bags and start enjoying NYC for our 30 hour stay. We were impressed by the overall condition and cleanliness of the rooms. We stayed in a twin/twin room, and while somewhat small (hey, this is New York after all), the room was immaculate, […] attractively furnished in an upscale manner, and had a very spacious bathroom with plenty of shelf room for our toiletries. The continental breakfast the next morning was straightforward (assorted danish, coffee, juice), which I think was a plus...no powdered scrambled eggs or long waits at the waffle iron. Ugh. The person checking us in also accommodated our request for a room on the top floor, away from traffic noise, and the room delivered...very quiet, and with great room darkening curtains. This is not a full scale luxury hotel...the doorman didn't offer to take our bags up to our room, for instance...but overall, the staff was very friendly and professional, and we were extremely pleased with our stay. I chose this hotel based on it's convenient location and relatively inexpensive rate for a single night stay in NYC. We had a room on the 6th floor of this 11th floor hotel and were able to check in two hours early! Gave us an opportunity to explore without lugging our suitcase around the city. Our room was quiet and comfortable. Elevator a bit slow […] as mentioned in other reviews. Also morning breakfast was as expected for a freebie. We had a cup of tea and split the last croissant. Our train didn't leave until later in the day and I asked if we could store our suitcase after checking out. The helpful clerk said it was a complimentary service! Our stay at the Hotel Stanford was just perfect. The beds wern't the most comfortable, but were cozy enough. The bathroom was very clean, the linens were clean and the room was super cute. It is definately older, but had lots of character. The only real complaint was that the room was hot. The thermostat did not work, but I think that's because there […] is no individually control over the room temperature. Since it was cold outside, the heat was on and there was nothing we could do to cool it down. We just kept the windows open, but since our room was at the end of a long alleyway, there wasn't much of a breeze. But who spends a lot of time in their room anyway. "Hotel Stanford - Delightful for the Price!"
Pros: Helpful staff. In-room fridge (not sure if all rooms have one). Fridge was stocked with a carafe of water - helpful when on the verge of dehydration after walking several miles. Bathroom appeared newly remodeled and was clean. Holy, moly! Conditioner was one of the wee toiletries provided! Subway entrance was steps away from the front of the hotel. Pretty […] centrally located to everywhere we wanted to venture on this trip. Breakfast available. Cons: No in-room internet service (though it's offered on the 2nd floor lounge). Room was super hot (we traveled in January so just opened a window to get a chilled blast of air). No protein served during breakfast (Strange little must for me - I just grabbed some yogurt and kept it in the room). Coffee wasn't strong enough for me to match my husband's morning person energy level - next time will take instant espresso (again, a personal preference). Bed was not comfortable - but really, we were so exhausted when we hit it, it performed its function just fine. My husband and I will definitely stay here again. The building is old, but in good repair and the rooms are clean (and there were no bedbugs during our Oct 2010 stay). The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The only problem with our room was the size of the bed. My husband is 6'2" (185 cm), and the bed was so short he had to bend his legs to fit. Also, skip the "breakfast" and find your own. […] The breakfast room (which functions as cafe during the day) is narrow and cramped, and the selection of (mostly) pastries isn't too appetizing.
