At Gild Hall, A Thompson Hotel, quirky boutique-hotel details meet 4-star amenities, bringing a touch of whimsy and wit to the often-straitlaced Financial District. Gild Hall is on the east side of Lower Manhattan, close to financial mainstays--the Federal Reserve Bank of New York is 3 blocks away, and Wall Street is a 4-block walk. But the location isn't all business: The South Street Seaport is 5 blocks from Gild Hall, and the Statue of Liberty ferry terminal is a 15-minute walk southwest, in Battery Park.
The lobby area takes its cues from English gentlemen's clubs, with leather sofas encircling a chessboard, a chandelier crafted of intertwined antlers, and well-stocked bookshelves lining the walls. For more reading material--and room to mingle--head to the 2-level Library Bar, where you can hobnob with the denizens of the Financial District. The Libertine turns the traditional English tavern on its ear, mixing wood paneling with checked-tile ceilings and fanciful paintings and wall murals. You can also dine in your room--room service is available all day on weekdays, and on weekend evenings. Gild Hall also offers a small fitness room, so that travel doesn't mean abandoning your fitness routine. A business center and conference room are available for all your business needs.
The hunt-club decor continues in the guestrooms. All 126 rooms feature beds with leather headboards and plaid flannel throws atop 400-thread-count linens. Antique brass chandeliers are suspended from 12-foot ceilings. You can snack on Dean & DeLuca goodies from the minibar and relax in Frette bathrobes. Marble bathrooms include New York's own C.O. Bigelow bath amenities. Connect to the wireless Internet access (surcharge) to catch up on news, or turn on the flat-panel TV for a little distraction. You can request complimentary delivery of domestic or international newspapers. Housekeeping visits twice daily, including a stop later in the day to perform turndown service.

Library Bar - This cozy bi-level bar offers cocktails in an intimate, club-like retreat with leather sofas and well-stocked bookshelves.
Room service - On weekdays, you can order up breakfast, lunch, and dinner to enjoy in the privacy of your room. Saturday and Sunday, in-room dining is available for dinner only.
Whether you're a morning exerciser or a late-night runner, the compact fitness center at Gild Hall will have what you need--it's open 24 hours a day. The petite space includes an elliptical machine, a treadmill, and a set of free weights.

From the time I was met by the Valet, until the time I checked out, leaving the Valet - my stay was solid. The staff was attentive, remembered my son's name and acknowledged him throughout our stay. We had some trouble with the air, but maintaince quickly responded, the neighborhood felt a little grittier and more dense than expected.
