Wall Street comes to life before dawn as traders rush to Lower Manhattan to make and break deals. But finance is just one aspect of Lower Manhattan, where colonial churches stand next to skyscrapers. Within the district, rebuilding continues at Ground Zero. At Battery Park, ferries depart for Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, America’s beacon of freedom.

"An uneven experience"
On the one hand, the linens and the plush robe were just what we expected for a boutique hotel. On the other hand, when a boutique hotel lists as one of its amenities the brand of shampoo, etc. that it provides, one expects to get more than just shampoo and conditioner--there wasn't even body lotion! We chose this hotel, in part, because of its on-site […] restaurant: we are informed upon arrival that it is closed in anticipation of a new restaurant coming in: since the hotel had our email address, a heads-up would not have been much trouble for them. The room lacked a coffee-maker--how can that be in this day and age!?! Again, for its luxurious build-up--we got exactly 2 towels, hand towels and wash cloths. The site said turndown service. We asked for our room to be refreshed after 4pm--that happened, but not turndown service. The ice bucket--a glass container, not insulated that held less than 2 cups of ice. I imagine it sounds like I am being picky, but for the price, for the label--the place just didn't measure up. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"My list of complaints"
Hotel is difficult to spot. Down a one way, one lane street...looks like an alley. Extremely nice staff and very good about giving directions, suggestions, etc. NO room service on the weekends. NO restaurant on the weekends. Very disappointing when you come back after a long day around town and can't get anything to eat. Room vents were filthy. Television […] was almost dead. Had to turn it on 3 times each time you wanted to watch...3rd time is the charm. Tub drain was broken. Layout of room is poor. Banged shins on the bed everytime walked between it and the desk. For some goofy reason, the walls between the room and the bathroom are glass! So yes, when someone is on the toilet, you can see them in the room. Albeit the glass is rippled....c'mon. "Great for a downtown hotel."
The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. The location of the hotel was what made this the perfect hotel for us. We needed a hotel downtown. The rooms were well kept but small. Compared to other hotels in NYC I would say it was just ok.Genuine Expedia guest review

"It was alright"
You would stay here for the location - the Hotel was so-so. I say that because the room had dark carpets and I could see dust that had accumulated in corners and around fixtures. Also the vent in the shower was filled with dust YIKES! In addition the tub was backed up and would fill up during my shower. I am a no hassle person plus, I literally only […] slept there and was out all day so I did not take the time to address this to the staff -- I am sure something would have been done if I did. But all that dust -- I never seen that --not even in the Red Roof Inn---ya feel me? Anyways Location is fantastic if you love NY but you want to own the streets at night =). Oh yeah and the hotel says they will get you a cab but you are better off getting one on your own--who knows where that guy dissappeared to. I didn't try their food --wish I had! the bed is the coolest thing in the hotel room. Oh yeah--also the towels were not the whitest- I did see a fading stain on one of the towels --only bc someone said they did in a review I read -- or else I would not have noticed--I expect hotel towels to be bright white. Anywho--the location is what its about. I am sure the Smyth is better will try that one next time im in NYC. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Small hotel on a quiet back street. Our room was dark, partly because of the decor. I suppose the theme is an English country hotel, but it doesn't work well. Restaurant is closed on weekends. The continental breakfast they offered Sat. and Sun. for $15 was pathetic. Would be okay for financial district business, but would not recommend it for tour […] ists. "Gild Hall - decent if you don't mind location"
This is a qualified "not recommended" rating - it was fine, just way out of my way and not a very cheerful vibe. If you want to be in the financial district then it would suit most people's needs. To me it was a little dark and depressing - also not a lively place and the staff was not friendly. I stayed at Gild Hall right after an extremely happy 3 […] night stay at the Soho Grand so Gild Hall's staff and facilities suffer from that comparison. The room at Gild Hall was spacious and clean - no complaints at all on that level. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I really wanted to love this hotel..and I almost do. This was my second stay, and I am torn between recommending it enthusiastically or looking for another place. The hotel itself is very comfortable and has a definite 'feel'. Think library and hunting den minus the animal heads. My room was fantastic. I upgraded to a small suite and had a little kitchenette. […] This became part of the problem. Choosing to stay in for most meals I was surprised that I had to request some sort of 'turn down service' at about 7 pm, to get the trash taken out. This was done, but all of my dishes etc were left in the sink, untouched. My only point is that the 'suite/kitchen' part of this room was not really considered by the staff. I am used to having the plates cleared if I am staying in a place with a kitchen. The big disaster however was the dinner in the hotel. After being persuaded to stay downstairs and eat (I was alone) the manager promised to take good care of me. I never saw him again, nor did i see my server. I ordered a bottle of nice wine thinking i would take it to the room. He poured a glass and left it on ice at the bar. After about an hour and 3 requests for another glass, I had to go to the bar myself and ask for more of the wine. Everything I ordered with amendments came out wrong. They were simple requests, but not one was met. Turns out, it was march madness and my server was very busy watching the game. It was just disappointing because the dinner was over $120 (a lot for me, dining alone) and the experience left more than everything to be desired. Had I not had dinner at the hotel, and had I felt that the needs of the individual guest (single person, eating in the room, needing plates cleared) were considered, I could recommend this as one of the great, if undiscovered 'gems' in nyc hotels. As it is, I am not sure I will be returning. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Financial District Winner -- Prettty Much"
A pleasant hotel in the heart of the financial district. Once I was able to get the room that I actually wanted -- given a smoking room at check in instead if the non-smoking one requested -- the stay was quite pleasant. Not a very pretty location, but as I needed to be in the area for business it was fine. The restaurant needs some work. Very unimpressive […] dinner menu -- better suited to lunch -- and the wine list wasn't any better. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great if you need to be Downtown"
I found everything with Gild Hall to be very nice. The room was large, the bathroom was fine. There was no WiFi, strangely. If you need to be downtown, this is a great alternative. Otherwise, you'll spend a fortune on cabs.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Poor Customer Service"
I had several problems with customer service while staying at this hotel with my mother and sister. First, when we arrived, there was no valet service available for our car (we asked the front desk twice, waited around for 15 minutes, and eventually just parked the car around the corner ourselves) and no bellman available to help us with our luggage. […] The front desk simply watched as we struggled to load our bags onto a dolly ourselves. The next day, a fuse blew while my sister and I dried our hair (admittedly using two dryers). Despite calling THREE times over the next 30 minutes, no one came to fix this. We had also called down for an iron during this time period, because the room did not have an iron and ironing board in it (what modern hotel doesn't have that?). When someone finally showed up with the iron (which also took about 15 minutes), we asked him about the fuse, and he walked to the end of the hallway outside our room, opened a locked closet, and flipped the fuse. It is incomprehensible why it would take 30 minutes to do that. The only thing positive I can say for the hotel is that it was clean. The room itself was pretty small (even by NYC standards) and you can basically see through the bathroom door (don't stay here with someone you aren't comfortable with!). Needless to say, we were pretty disappointed with this hotel. I am not surprised it was on sale. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Gild Hall, NYC - Disappointing Experience"
Finding the hotel - It was very difficult to actually find the hotel entrance – my wife and I drove around the surrounding streets for about 10 minutes before we were forced to call the hotel and ask where the entrance was. That part of lower Manhattan is particularly difficult to navigate because the streets are very narrow and are not laid out in […] a manner that makes any sense. The real problem was that the hotel entrance was NOT at the address that was listed on the confirmation page that I printed out. Lobby - Once in the hotel, the lobby had a small, boutique feel to it. The lounge was visible from the check in area, which was cool. They upgraded us to King Suite, which seemed really nice. The Room - Absolutely enormous room with a kitchen area, sitting room, huge bathroom, and a nice sized bedroom. The room had wo flat screen TVs. The HUGE problem was that the weather was about 90 degrees and humid outside, which was bad because one of the room’s air conditioner did not work properly during our stay. Our room actually had two A/C units - one in the bedroom, which I would say worked averagely – it kept the bedroom decently cool during the course of the night, but I did find myself getting warm during the night. The A/C unit in the sitting room, which should have cooled the sitting room, kitchen area and bathroom did not work properly (or, rather, at all). We called the front desk and they sent up an "engineer" right away. He determined that the A/C unit had tripped the circuit breaker - which he admitted was not a good thing. He told us to call again if the A/C unit stopped working. My wife and I went out to dinner and did not return until late that night. By the time we returned to the hotel room, the A/C unit was not working in the sitting area. At this point we figured that since the A/C unit in the bedroom was working, we would be fine. Looking back, we made the wrong call. We didn’t have a great sleep because we were warm all night long. In the morning wh Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Gild Hall a not-so boutique hotel..."
Great location to visit Ground Zero, Century 21, Wall Street but there is not much else around. Not sure it was worth paying a "boutique" premium it since the subway is so convenient in NYC. Most cab drivers had no clue where the hotel was situated, we often had to guide them once we knew the way there. My opinion is that this is a hotel that caters […] to business travellers as there is not much to do on weekends. Also this "boutique" hotel charged us for two local calls, had not seen this in other hotels of their so-call caliber and price. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Gild Hall Financial District NYC - bare bones gym"
We stayed at the Gild Hall on May 13/14/15 and overall the hotel was good (we'd give it a 3.5/5). We checked in late on a Friday night and the front desk staff weren't very friendly, but did give us a complimentary glass of Prosecco for checking in on a weekend. By the time we arrived, their kitchen at the Libertine was already closed when we arrived […] (only open until 10pm on Friday nights), so we weren't able to try out their food. There isn't much nightlife in that area, so if you are looking for a lot of dining options or want to go out for a night on the town, I wouldn't recommend staying in the Financial District. The hotel has a lot of character and very unique decor, but the gym was a real let down. They have 3 "exercise rooms", and they are tiny! Each one contains one treadmill, one elliptical, and a small set of free weights (only up to 25 lbs). No more than 2 people can work out in the room at once, and it gets very hot once you start moving. We went to two of the rooms, only to find the treadmill out of order in both. Finally the third room had functional equipment. I would choose a hotel with better fitness facilities next time.
