I usually read the reviews before booking and was a bit wary of this hotel. But the last couple of reviews were glowing, so we decided to give it a try. Especially since I've been to the days inn at Yankees stadium and thought it was clean and decent for the price. The lobby looked nice but that was it. Our room was on the 10th floor and it was dirty. […] The carpet was worn and permanently stained brown. There was white stains and used matches on the floor. The wall paper was peeling near the outlets. The tv was outdated and had no hdmi. If we were staying more than one night we'd have requested another room. "the location was the best thing about the hotel"
the room was an ice box, it had a funny smell to it and it the service was lacking, The toil et clogged up I called for the maintenance person to come however no one came. I had to call again in the morning for them to come an unclog the toilet. We froze all night the heat was on but the air coming into the room from the taped AC overpowered the heat. My heat in the room stopped working in the middle of the night. There was no maintenance and I have to shiver all the night. The hotel didn't take it seriously and didn't even provided me another room. I have to shiver through the night with 19 degrees outside. I agonized over where to stay for my first trip to NYC as an adult. I did my research and after reading the mixed reviews of this hotel, I decided to book it. I thought that the people who posted bad reviews were probably exaggerating. They weren't. Lobby was ok. We got up to the 10th floor and I was surprised at how run-down it looked. The hallways […] smelled and looked really bad. Our room was gross. It was VERY small. The wallpaper was peeling, the carpet looked disgusting. It smelled. The bathroom and bed appeared to be clean and we were only there to sleep and shower, so it wasn't so bad. If you are looking for a comfortable place to lounge around, this isn't it, but who goes to NYC to lounge around? The elevators are small and very slow. The good thing about it is the location. The neighborhood was pretty quiet and seemed safe. I am a woman and I traveled with my teenage daughter. We never felt unsafe. The subway station is right across the street and the express train takes you to Times Square in about 10 minutes. We didn't have the need for much interaction with the hotel staff, but they were all pleasant and helpful. No complaints there. I am just disappointed with the price for the condition of the room that we were put in. I wouldn't mind paying the same for a renovated room, but I think that this room should have been half the price. I would love for the CEO of Days Inn to spend a night in this room. The pictures on the website make it look nice and decent but this was the worst hotel stay I have ever had. NYC is very expensive so I can't hold that against this hotel. The room was located in the stairwell so to access the room you had to go to the emergency stairs and your room was right there...? Very strange! This hotel had great website pics. They must have been taken with a trick camera because even though I switched rooms TWICE, there was poor quality here. This hotel is very conveniently located, and the bed was quite comfortable. Those are the only two good things I have to say about this dump of a hotel. When I checked in, I was given a smoking room, even though I'd booked a non-smoking room. I knew that the room type was not guaranteed, but I decided to check with the front desk to see if I could […] switch. Instead of just saying that they were out of non-smoking rooms, the front desk staff insisted that hotels.com had requested a smoking room for me. I had my confirmation printed out, and it clearly stated "non-smoking room." I was now annoyed that they were trying to pass the buck when there was no need to do so. I decided to call hotels.com and let them know about this, but as I dialed the front desk staff "found" a non-smoking room for me. The room they found was nasty. The carpeting in the room was damp and sticky, I think because the carpets had just been cleaned. The room smelled strongly of a sweet smelling cleaning agent, presumably from the carpets. It was a bit nauseating, but after a while I stopped being able to smell it. The dampness of the carpets and the sickly smell continued both days I stayed. My stay was during July, and it was quite hot out. I set the air conditioned on its highest setting, but it didn't keep the room cool. It would have been cooler (and maybe less smelly) to just open the window, but the window wouldn't open. On the first night, I sat in bed at 1:30 am sweltering, until I finally got up, took a cold shower, and took a sleeping pill so I could sleep. The room felt dirty and dingy, and was too hot to hang out in when I had free time. So I found myself spending time in the lobby or in a coffee shop down the street during my waking hours. I would have preferred to be able to rest in the hotel room I'd paid for. The phone was plugged into the wall, but did not work. Also, the safe in the closet was missing the key. "Days Hotel Broadway Nightmare Experience"
For the price that we paid we expected quality service. We had organised a King Room and the hotel was meant to be a treat for us. We arrived before check in and the hotel offered to look after our luggage but did not offer to carry it for us. They also refused to have it delivered to the room. The room had an old TV - no flat screen TV's at Days Inn. […] The curtains were held back with velcro. The plug hole around the bath tub was rusted but worst of all, the radiator was obviously not screwed in correctly and made the sound of a screaming kettle every 10 minutes when the radiator boiled. The reception sent up a maintenance man who's only solution was to turn the heating off and give us a 5 fin oil heater - in January! Reception assured us that every room had the same sounding radiators. We strongly recommend AGAINST staying here.
