"Nice tiny gem near Broadway & Times Square"
Overall there is no furniture but the bed - yet a very comfy bed! Nicely appointed bathroom, and small closet. Thankfully there was a luggage rack, but otherwise not much more. However, I will only fault it for that - there were mornings that I went downstairs and used the chairs in the lobby to get my shoes and socks on - LOL. "Deceptive Advertising"
I had considered staying at this hotel a number of times before, and passed up MUCH better hotels to check out a different place and neighborhood on this stay. Apparently there is not much difference between the "Standard" Room and the "Petite" room except the price. Now, I understand that New York Hotel rooms are small, but in probably a dozen visits […] I've never been able to open the door of the room without getting out of bed. When I called the desk to point out that I didn't reserve a "Petite" room, I was told that I got the standard room, and that the extra charge was the difference between a Double and Queen Bed. "Can't control your room temperature"
The good: Great location, close to most of the attractions and still quiet. Clean rooms. Good service. The bad: You'd expect from any 3+ stars hotel to be able to control your room temperature. Not only you couldn't do that, but even to turn heating on we had to call hotel staff that would send someone in the room to turn some hidden valve. After the […] heating was turned on, for some reason during the night it would turn off and resume in the morning. Again we had to call and eventually they sent a radiator to the room. To be specific, the room temperature felt like 68-70 during the day with the heating off and dropped to about 65-67 during the night, even with the heating turned on. "The rooms are too small"
The Washington Jefferson Hotel in New York- For the price we paid their should have been a lot more space. My daughter and I went for 2 nights. The location was close to Times Square which was nice just try to stay out of your room as long as possible. Twin beds on boards, no closet, walls are paper thin and no sink space. The Washington Jefferson NYC was in a good location, about 3 blocks off of Broadway on 51st. Subway was only a block away and there were 4 restaurants across the street and next door. You just have to remember that it is a boutique hotel and very small. It was nice that the staff knew you by name, but the elevator only held three people at a time,which […] could make for a long wait had the hotel been full. We had a king size bed with a two foot walkway around it. The shower was hot with good pressure, but sink was so small you had to leave your toothbrush on the desk by the bed. No storage except for a small wardrobe, so had to live out of the suitcase. We felt comfortable walking in the neighborhood, but it was a little too compact for us. The hotel rooms are very small, and have very little closet space, and no extra room for storing bags, but the rooms and common areas were very clean and comfortable. Very professional, helpful staff and very clean rooms, in general, but at some point, management will need to bite the bullet and put in a vent in the bathroom or make sure they bleach the shower grout after each visit. I vacationed in NYC with my 12 year old daughter and we stayed at the WJ Hotel. As most affordable hotels in NYC, the rooms were very small, but we were only in it to shower and sleep, so it didn't bother us. You can tell the building is old, but the room was updated and clean. Location was EXTREMELY convenient. We were a two minute walk from Gershwin […] Theater where we saw "Wicked". It was a five-10 minute walk to both Rockefeller Center and Times Square with lots to see on the way. The staff is EXTREMELY helpful. Not only will they give you directions, but will also give you tips like when the best time to go is. They suggested we see the Empire State Building later in the evening, and we were able to walk right in with no line. I forgot my phone in a car they called to take my daughter and me to the airport. "Great first visit"
We arrived several hours before check-in and were told it was no problem to hold our bags until the room was ready. Our first night the room had a queen bed so we checked to see if any double twins were available. They were not that night but would be for the rest of our stay. They told us just to make sure our suitcases were packed and they would move […] the bags to a new room as soon as it was ready. When we came back, everything was moved and they had put my earring that I must have left on the nightstand in an envelope on top of my bag. We just returned from four nights at the Washington Jefferson. From check in to check out the staff and accomodations were wonderful. Helpful staff, clean, comfortable rooms and quiet each night. Location is key here with so many things to do, eat, shows to see. Hotel itself is an older style hotel but in good, clean condition. Room was very clean, and very small (but that is expected in town). Down comforters, crisp linens in bright white.
