"I moved to another hotel."
It was reported to be 'under renovation' in the exterior and lobby areas. The whole block was a construction site. The key to my confirmed queen bed room didn't work so I was moved to another room with doubles. The room was small but cleverly done 'modern' except for the entry hallway and door which hadn't been touched and looked like they had been […] through wars. The 'view' out the window was of a lightwell with a huge metal duct running in front of my window. Elevator from the upstairs lobby to the street was broken and the lobby areas were very chaotic. On the one plus side, the people who work there were wonderful. I moved to another hotel after one night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Response by Milford Plaza Hotel It would seem by your rating that you were disappointed with your recent stay at The Milford and regret that we do not have the specific issues so that we may reply to you. We realize that, until our ongoing $160 million renovation is completed, effecting these changes is sometimes unavoidably at the expense of guest comfort and satisfaction as we work to bring The Milford back to the iconic status it once enjoyed and apologize for any dissatisfaction you were caused as a result.
"Service Issues & Chaos"
They're undergoing a major renovation so getting in and out of the hotel is awful. Elevators are slow. Service could make up for that deficit, but it is non-existant. Not a satisfying experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Milford Plaza Hotel We're sorry you were disappointed with your stay. We are in the late stages of our lobby renovation which includes work on our elevators as well, necessitating taking one at a time out of service. While we realize our temporary lobby is much smaller than our regular lobby, we do try our best to make our guests as comfortable as possible and sincerely regret if we failed to do so with you.

The staff was friendly but very inefficient and generally uninterested in helping guests. We had trouble getting our bags to our room and getting our car from the garage when we left. Response by Milford Plaza Hotel I'm sorry about the elevator disruption during your stay. Our "smart" elevators are usually one of our best-liked features; unfortunately, like all machines, they sometimes require that we take them out of service for repair or recalibration which is necessary for the safety and security of all of our guests. Unfortunately, this happened when we already had cars out as part of our renovation and we utilized our service elevators to ease the traffic flow. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you were caused as a result.
"Worst ever. Never again."
The property is under renovation, so it may get better, but when I was there is was horrible. They should have trottled back significantly on the number of guests they tried to accommodate given the work they are doing on the building. They had half the elevators blocked off for renovation and two of the remaining four went off line one mornign so they […] were actually shuttling guests on the service elevator. Very disppointed. Bad hotel. Bad service. Made worse with significant ongoing construction. If this hotel was located anyone other than Times Square it would be out of business.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Terrible; room was no larger than a shoe box. Elevators were stopped at midnight and stairs had to be utilized. Had to wait on maintenance to finish repairs to room before I could utilize room. Air conditioner did not work. Would not recommend to anyone. And to think I paid around 300.00 for this.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"DO NOT BOOK HERE. TRUST ME."
This hotel is under total renovation. Construction happening at this moment. The lobby is a zoo that looks like the office of a construction site. As in a trailer. They are grossly understaffed at the desk, and my impression is that it's on purpose to rake as much cash in as possible while under renovation. There is no room service, no rooftop bar (as […] advertised, since it's under construction), horrible elevators (and not enough for the thousands of people they have staying there each day, no kidding)...sound leaks from the hallways under the door, so you get woken by people having 4am chats on the phone in the hallway. It's a nightmare. Parking costs $53/night. Ridiculous. Can't emphasize enough, that this was the worst hospitality experience of my life. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Dumpy, noisy and crowded"
What a disappointment! Things didn't seem clean or particularly cared for anywhere in the hotel. There were throngs of people with bags in the lobby area at any one time and I'm guessing it caters to foreign tour groups. And all the construction didn't help matters (I find it hard to believe even when they are done with this construction, that the place […] will be somewhere I would ever want to stay...yes, it was that bad). The rooms were small and basic and again, not very cared for. In the morning, there were doors slamming everywhere. I'm not sure if the doors are just heavy or the hotel patrons were just rude. But it was not a relaxing morning at all. I couldn't wait to check out. Save your money--it's not cheap to stay here and is truly a dump...even by NYC standards! "Under HEAVY Construction"
I hate to dwell on negatives but sometimes you have to be honest. I stayed at the Milford Plaza for a business trip. Be advised that this hotel is under heavy construction. During my stay they also felt it necessary to test the fire alarms starting at a quarter to 5 am. I believe that the Milford is trying it's best to improve but should it be the cost […] of your guest experience? I would not recommend a stay at the Milford with the current renovations. Response by Milford Plaza Hotel As part of our $160 million renovation, new fire sprinkler systems were installed and an elevator recall test needed to be conducted to ensure the safety and security of all of our guests in the unlikely incident of a fire in the building. Since this required taking the elevators out of service for up to an hour, it was not feasible for this to take place during the daytime or early evening hours and it was decided to conduct the test between 5AM and 6AM when most guests would not be affected. We had been assured by our project managers that no announcements or alarms would be triggered during this procedure and we were assured by the 3rd party testing company that there would be no noise disturbance to our guests. Unfortunately, this was not communicated to their technician who conducted the test and proceeded to make the announcements you heard. The management of the hotel would never knowingly or willingly agree to such noise disturbances at such an hour and we sincerely regret this unfortunate incident.
"This was ridiculous"
We checked in ok despite fact they had one woman doing all the check ins. There were signs saying excuse our appearance because they're under construction. It took us half an hour to find our room. The elevator system is ridiculous. U can't choose your floor from inside. U have to pick from outside elevator. We were 6th floor we were brought to 20th […] about 5 times. And there is no stairway that you can go up to walk to your floor. Staff kept telling us to take elevators. We asked someone to help us get to room. They said no. Our room once we finally found it had a gross stain on the leather by the table. Our lamp had no lampshade, gross stain on carpet. I'm not one to complain about a hotel but I was in shock. Had I not paid in full non refundable or had another hotel option since things were booked, I would have left if I could. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Affordable, but still not worth it"
Great location is about all I can say for the Milford Plaza. Massive construction going on, staff handling fairly well, but crowded and cramped. Our room had been renovated but getting there was a challenge. Through some crazy back elevators and "staff only" section was a bad start. The room itself had been cheaply redone, and was decent, though all […] the lights had no shades so there were exposed bulbs around a 4 year old. The towels had stains, but most interestingly, when we turned on the shower, the entire ceiling above the shower started leaking. We called the desk, and they said they would send someone, but no one arrived. Finally we decided that if they didn't care about it, then we didn't. The ceiling bubbled and after the three of us showered, the bubbles popped and the ceiling started peeling off. Probably just paint, but honestly, if it were my property I would worry about it. Made me concerned as to what else they were skimping on. Glad to get out of there. I guess you get what you pay for, but still I think we were ripped. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

I stayed at the Milford knowing that they were doing some construction on their lobby. To cut a long story short 1) chaotic elevator process - 4 elevators went by FULL so we had to take the stairs every day 2) No hot water!!!! I had to have a cold shower 3) On one day the elevators didn't work so I had to walk up to the 10th floor 4) they have a PA […] system in the room and there were frequent announcements from the electrical contractors as early as 8am 5) the housekeeping service threw away items that were not trash and were not near a trash can (including my expensive cosmetics that were in sachet form inside the tub area and my bag of keep sakes - maps, tickets etc). 6) cranky staff - 7) there was no restaurant, no room service, no coffee facilities. The room was very, very small. The bathroom was like a small, small closet. To use the bathroom you had to come all the way in before you could close the door. No place to put your suitcase except floor and if you put the suitcase on the floor there was […] not room to walk around the small beds. The bed were suppose to be queen size. "HORRIBLE! Worst hotel experience ever!!!!"
The positives: the rooms are very nicely decorated and comfortable in spite of their size. The location can't be beat if you want to be next to Times Square and Broadway. The cons: Hotel is under extensive remodeling construction and was not made aware of when booking. Service is extremely slow and rude. No signs posted anywhere to help find front […] entrance in middle of all the scaffolding. Bathroom was 105 degrees F according to our thermometer. Had to open window to counter heat cause it could not be shut off. Hotel decided to start testing fire alarms at 830am, neglected to inform us that this was going to happen when we checked in. Front desk never answers the phone, neither does the bell stand. Called for two hours straight trying to get a bellman before giving up and carrying our 5 bags down ourselves. When we told the employee at the counter about it, she did not offer an apology, just an attitude and said "the phones work". How do you start an alarm test at 8am in a city where people stay out very late and not make your customers aware of it the night before so they can go to bed early? How do you give your customers attitude when you fail them? NEVER AGAIN WILL I STAY HERE!!! YOUR STAFF'S LACK OF CONCERN OR APOLOGY FOR ALL THE WAYS YOU FAILED SEALED THAT FATE. "Cheap renovation"
Hotel has been cheaply renovated. Rooms are tiny and elevators take forever. They only renovated the absolute necessary and then in a cheap way. Doors, windows are still old and fall apart. Response by Milford Plaza Hotel We’re sorry you were disappointed with the size of your room. We do have varying size rooms in our hotel but during times of high occupancy, we must make use of all the rooms at our disposal. Our hotel was built in 1928 when room size expectations were more modest and in a city where space is always at a premium. As a mid-level market hotel, we realize that there are higher end hotels with larger accommodations but find that our core clientele tend to spend little time in their rooms and prefer more reasonable rates to higher levels of in-room luxury. As part of our ongoing lobby renovation, we are also working on the elevators so there are intermittent delays during peak check-in and check-out times. We realize decor is a highly personal thing and regret that ours is not to your liking. As noted elsewhere on this site, many guests have positive feedback.

Went with my girlfriend for Valentine's Day and was disappointed from the beginning. We arrived to check in around 8:30pm and had to wait in line for over 45 minutes. There were two employees working check in yet there was 5+ check in stations. The hotel is supposed to be renovated and it was below average. We tried to call the concierge multiple times […] each with no answer. The front desk was less than helpful. It didnt end there. The next morning out check out was meant to be 12pm. At 8am housekeeping tried barging into our room, luckily we had the latch on, waking both of us up in panic. We called to ask what was going on and nobody knew or could help explain. Then I went to get ice and when I got back to the room my key was deactivated. Needless to say it was far from a good experience and we don't plan to return. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
