"OK but you can do better"
This hotel is geared to international travelers. From that perspective, it's well located to many tourist sites (Empire State Building, Macy's, Broadway theaters) and close to all subway lines. The rooms, while clean, are tiny (we had a metro room) and the street noise is hard to avoid. I do not know how travelers with large suitcases could walk around […] their rooms. The staff was pleasant and helpful. It's not the worst place to stay, but for the same money you can likely be in a nicer neighborhood that's just as convenient. "Somewhat disappointed"
I travel to NYC for business alot but this trip was for a week vacation and based on the fact I needed a hotel w two beds and wanted to stay around $300 a night , we ended up here. Although it is charming I was disappointed in the room itself. The tile needed to be cleaned thoroughly and needed an update overall. The location was great as its right […] on top of Penn Station. I would probably stay again for biz purposes but not when trying to show a family member my love of NYC. My nephew didn't know the difference but I did. Overall it was okay but not worth the money. I stayed at the Waldorf last year for a week for less Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Terrible Service. Great location"
Front desk is rude and brusque. Coming from the airport, I was longing for TSA courtesy after dealing with the front desk here. Rude and condescending. And it wasnt just my initial agent Gabina. Saw a few others practically yelling. The new trainees were much better. Luckily, there was an express checkout so I didn't have to deal with them again after […] the check-in experience. If they replace the front desk with automated check-ins, I would rate it a notch higher. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Old hotel, small room but clean at good location"
The hotel is very old and the room is small but clean. The bath room faucet made tremendous noice when it is turned on. However, the staffs are pleasant and the location is good for the activity we had.Genuine Expedia guest review
"You get what you pay for"
Overall I had no issue. The hotel is older and the beds aren't as comfy as a 4 or 5 star hotel but it is clean and safe. Hey for the price it is great!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"No Hot Water"
Hotel room was clean, bathroom was dated and looked like there was mold in it. No hot water in shower. Lobby was great. Staff was very friendly. Location was great from Penn Station and Javit Center.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Decent hotel past its' prime"
Aging hotel. The renovated rooms are in much better shape but overall condition is fair at best. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Convenient location was a big plus for my stay.Genuine Expedia guest review

We loved the room and the view, but no heat and it was cold Feb 24 night of the Oscars. There was no place to turn the heat up or down.Love the bar,the location(being so close to Penn Station....But I was freezing and no extra blanketGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location - fair hotel"
Can't beat the location, but the hotel is so-so. Older, rooms are very small and the bathrooms are even smaller. And the rooms are cold and drafty. The staff is very friendly and helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cheap but don't expect too much"
Many hotels like this in NY. The location near the subway station is an advantage. Stayed in the past at the Pennsylvania Hotel across the street which was 100 Dollar cheaper, and honestly I don't a big difference between the two.Genuine Expedia guest review
"No hot water, but other than that...."
The general experience was far better than expected. The only glitch, and it is significant, is that it took 20 minutes to get hot water.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not impressed"
The check-in staff was horrible. Very rude and curt. When checking out, we dealt with a manger who was professional, but brief. The room itself was VERY small. I'm fairly certain our cruise cabin was more spacious. The view was overlooking another building. The location was fair. This was the best price when performing my search for our vacation, but […] in the future, I will pay a little more money to get a better hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Customer service training needed"
Very rude front desk. Checking in (at 10pm) took over 30 min & overall, staff clearly disinterested in making their guests feel welcome. I sat waiting for someone to "find the fax" from Hotels.com (confirming my reservation), until finally, I had to call Hotels.com myself- and not until then, was I acknowledged. (Hotels.com staff was very polite- and […] speedy, by the way!) But if i hadn't called to fix the problem myself, it was clear that the New Yorker Hotel staff would have continued to let me wait while they- (particularly "Ana")- stood & socialized with her flight attendant friend. Next time I visit NYC, I'll stay at Hotel On Rivington again (in the Lower East Side). I won't be back to the New Yorker. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Can probably do better than The New Yorker"
"front desk" and other speed dial buttons on phone didn't work, so when i had to call front desk using phone listing (to complain about a fight in the hall) i was billed for a local call. staff is completely unfriendly. when you smile and nod when passing one of them, they look at you like you're crazy. we didn't have to stay here, we obviously had […] many other choices. "Great location and a nice gym."
The New Yorker is fine but don't expect to get services of a boutique hotel. New Yorker is a huge complex with a lot of action 24/7. The location is awesome right next to penn station and the Madison square garden. The reception staff is always busy but I found them correct but not very friendly. The rooms are a bit worn off and some fixing would not […] harm. The bed was comfortable though as well as the temperature. The hotel gym is a big plus. I prefer personally boutique hotels but I stayed at the new yorker since my conference took place there. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"The Place for Theater"
We found the location excellent. The hotel was clean and comfortable, and for the most part the staff were helpful and friendly. The main disappointment was the exceedingly small room.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location, below average rooms"
Hotel is super busy, with a lobby bursting with people. The interior of the hotel seemed a busy as the outside streets. The place is a historic landmark and the rooms look as such. They have renovated the very small rooms, however, ther bathrooms have not been updated in a while. After a busy day of working and site seeing in NYC, not the quiet sactuary […] you expect from a four star hotel. The location is excellent and if you are just looking for a place to serve a a central base, this is a good one. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Felt like it was missing something"
Never felt that comfortable in the New Yorker. It wasn't dangerous, and it has a good location, and rather clean. But the hotel service was not up to par and there seemed to be a lot of people loitering around the property. The hotel has residences in it which as also a little odd.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"They have windy rooms available!"
The good news is that it was close to everything we needed: Hammerstein Ballroom and Penn Station. The disappointing part was that the hallway walls were not in good shape, the room was drafty and the bathroom was windy and not as clean as it should've been. Had to put the heat to 80 to counter the draft which didn't really help much for bathroom. The […] person who checked me in was pleasantly nice. When I called after my stay about a charge on my card, the agent that answered sounded like she could not have given a toot by the tone of her greeting and that she put me in hold without telling me. For the price I would rather stay somewhere else. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"The New Yorker Hotel"
The hotel lobby is beautiful, but the bathroom/shower was not updated and there was zero counter space in the bathroom. Additionally, I found the lack of attentiveness from hotel staff - both the front desk and doorman - to be very frustrating. Would not recommend valet parking through the hotel, but instead that you find a garage yourself b/c it was […] difficult to reach the doorman to retrieve my car. Overall, it was a small but clean room in a great location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"NOT 4 STAR..."
No idea how this hotel got a 4-star rating. I travel to NYC on business quite often and have stayed at many hotels, so I have a good barometer. Granted, it's a great location and the lobby is really nice - looks totally re-done and is very open and bright - but that is where it ends. As soon as you get out of the elevator, it immediately goes wrong […] - very shabby, from hallways to the room, to the bathroom - it's hard to put a finger on it, but it just feels old. This is a case of putting "lipstick on a pig" - new furniture and fixtures, for example, but they bathroom tile and tub were painted, which is now peeling and mildew-stained. I almost feel bad being so critical because it was very inexpensive for a NYC hotel, but I just thought people should know that this is a 3-star at best. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"good deal for the price"
bathrooms was a bit grubby, and could use more places to put personal items besides the toilet seat! We also found a condom (wrapped, thank goodness) under the bed side table, indicating too quick a cleaning service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
First timer at The New Yorkerand the service was excellence. The room was not what I expected the room was super small. The shower water pressure was horrible and after a long day a nice shower would off being great but there was no water pressure. Otherwise the valet parking attendant was really nice and he even recommended a great place to eat outside […] the hotel because the hotel cafe was full. The price dropped about $30 after I booked it so really shop around. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"CONVENIENT HOTEL"
Location perfect for me, since I traveled to New York via the Bolt bus, which stops right next to the hotel. That was my main reason for staying there. It's also convenient to subway transportation. "Room Disappointing"
Everything about a Hotel stay is the norm for The New Yorker. My biggest complaint was the room. It was so small, very disappointing. The pictures on the web makes it look so much bigger. I'm sure if we had upgraded, the room would have been bigger.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great for a short business trip"
Very, very small room. The place has seen better days, but it was ok for a short business trip. I wouldn't recommend it for a leisure trip. However, NYC is a tough and expensive market so I don't want to be too critical.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Location, location, location... Not much "room.""
The room was slightly bigger than a closet; this place has its old glory but it is in desperate need of an overhaul/remodeling. "Nice hotel near public transit"
Nice hotel with great location right across from Penn Station. Which is great for trains to the airport. As well as it being on the main A,C,E subway line for ease in getting around the city. I stayed here for work. The rooms were tiny, but not unusually so for New York City. The bathroom was old and dated (lime green tile) but clean. The hot water […] almost never got hot, just nicely warm. But everything functioned just fine. There were some nice older art deco accents to the room and hotel in general. Not a lot that I saw, but some. And if you like that, it was nice. I never really used any hotel amenities. I was up early for work and returned late and went to bed. But the room was always clean. I almost never interacted with the staff. But when I did they were nice and helpful. I'd rate the hotel a solid 3.5 (if I could). Since I can only do whole numbers I chose a 3. While this hotel was fine, it didn't' seem much if any better than previous hotels I'd stayed at in NYC. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Old hotel, but they try.."
Stayed here 2 nights on business. I found the place in pretty good condition for such an old hotel. Rooms were recently renovated and they've made an effort to modernize, but rooms are still small and bathrooms outdated. I'd stay again depending on rate.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
