The Court Hotel by St. Giles and its sister hotel Tuscany next door were the perfect fit for our weekend in NYC. The hotel has a distinct, modern European boutique feel, and the staff is very accomodating, from giving free ice for the room to holding our luggage on Sunday after check-out at noon without charge. Saturday night is big at the hotel bar, but otherwise quiet. The housekeepers gathered and chattered outside our door at 6:45 am Sunday morning, but I am sure that is not habitual. My boyfriend and I arrived at the hotel at about 2:15 pm, so a little early for check in, but the front desk was able to check us in and had a room all ready for us, which was really nice. When we got to our room, it was perfectly clean and actually quite large for a NYC hotel room with 2 big closets and a chaise lounge chair next to the windows. We […] planned on sleeping in each day of our stay so we made sure to put the "do not disturb" sign on our door knob, and we weren't bothered until around noon or 1 with a phone call from housekeeping asking when we would like our room to be cleaned that day, which I thought was really nice. The hotel is in a great location, and we got a really quiet room on the 14th floor. The lobby of the hotel is in good shape, but our room could have benefited from some updating. The carpeting needs to be replaced as it had big dark stains on it and the edges were worn and a little dusty. I didn't dare walk barefoot on it. "Coast to Coast connection"
My girlfriend recently came from California to spend the weekend with me in the city. I chose The Court because of its price at the time. The location was great. Lobby staff were extremely polite. Especially a young lady up front brunette curly hair. Always helped us figure everything out. The only set back we encountered was the noise. Room Doors closing […] in the morning and middle of the night were awfully noisy. Room service CONSTANTLY nagged us knocking on the door loudly calling our room constantly to see when they could come and clean. It began getting extremely annoying. One time a day I think is pretty Fair. Not four times a day when we Tell you "no its fine we dont need Room service." The construction across the street wasn't helpful either but not as noisy as those doors! It would have been kinda nice to have our own little fridge instead of the mini bar they try to make you use if you want a cold drink. All in all, the rooms are spacious, comfortable, warm, bathroom isn't five star caliber but was extremely clean, lobby staff were kind and polite and location was extremely convenient for city transportation. "Very Nice Stay (but still room to improve)"
I thought the location of the hotel was perfect (right off Park and 39th). The hotel was very clean and modern. However two issues detracted from a perfect 5 star rating, dropping the hotel to a four star rating. The hotel staff only left one wash cloth all weekend. Only two small inconveniences. One elevator was out of service on one day of our stay and the toilet needed to be flushed twice now and then (probably because it's an older building?) "Bigger than expected room"
The hotel was wonderful overall. Our room was HUGE and well appointed. Even though we were on Lexington Ave, there was very little street noise on the 8th floor. The front desk staff were lovely and even went out of their way to try to help me find someone to fix my car! The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The problem that we had with the hotel was that it sounded like the cars and trucks on Lexington Ave. were in our room. It was soooooooo loud. The staff was very friendly when we checked in and extremely helpful. The rooms were a moderate size, with an extremely comfortable bed and pillows! "St. Giles - excellent choice in midtown"
When we checked in, the front desk manager was very friendly. Since we arrived in the morning, they stored our bags for the day. When we came back in the evening to check in, they had given us an upgrade to a courtyard room. Room itself was large by NY standards with a king bed and chaise lounge, large bathroom, and a changing room with closet, counter […] and mirror, mini-fridge, and dresser. Only drawbacks: light in changing room was so dim, I couldn't see to put on make up, and sink in the bathroom had no counter space; also, bathtub was very slow to drain, so taking a shower was like standing in a wading pool. Doorman was very helpful at hailing cabs, and if you prefer to walk, neighborhood is quiet and well-lit at night. A little out of the way if you want the Times Square experience, but 39th and Lex is still a convenient location. "Not much for the price"
I paid more than the average market price for a boutique hotel in NY, and therefore believed that the hotel would be more upscale. The room was somewhat small and it had window unit AC. Also unattractive was the bathroom: while it was not too small, the shower head was not secured properly, neither was the shower door, and water leaked all over the […] floor. Finally, the front desk was not polite or particularly accomodating. To put my complaint into perspective, I stay in NY, on average, once-a-month, and I have never previously written any review. Positive: personal was very nice and helpful, rooms were cleaned properly, bed was comfortable, wifi worked ok and location was very good and close to grand central metro station. Negative: We had a king court yard room booked for 8 nights. We got a room in 2nd floor that was unbearably noisy due to some ventilation system next to the room's window. […] We asked for a new less noisy room and they did change without hassle. New room was on 7th floor and it was less noisy than previous one, but still there was quite strong ventilation system noise coming from outside the building (plus some weird clicking noise happening once in a while).
