Housed in a handsome 1927 Beaux Arts building, The Mark was renovated head-to-toe in 2009 by French designer Jacques Grange (whose clients include Karl Lagerfeld, Yves St. Laurent, and Princess Caroline of Monaco). Bold, innovative design features prominently in public spaces (think vivid, black-and-white striped floors in the lobby), while guestrooms offer a more tranquil feel.
Acclaimed French cuisine is on the menu, too. The Mark Restaurant, headed by Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, serves European fare made with ingredients fresh from the market. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are on offer daily, and you can stop by midday for afternoon tea. (Vongerichten also created the room-service menu, available 24 hours.) Before dinner, get glamorous at Frédéric Fekkai, one of this exclusive salon's few U.S. locations. Also helping you look and feel your best: a 24-hour fitness center designed by fitness guru John Sitaras.

Guestrooms at The Mark exude understated elegance. From your bed, layered with posh Quagliotti linens, you can control the temperature, lighting, and entertainment via a touch-screen panel. Complimentary wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel. Relax with a movie on the 32-inch Bang & Olufsen TV with Blu-ray player. A black granite bar includes a Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer drawers where you can stow treats. Gorgeous, Art Deco-style bathrooms have black-and-white marble floors, heated towel racks, deep soaking tubs, and separate showers.

The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges - Jacques Grange's designs for The Mark extend into the restaurant, helmed by influential chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. You'll dine on simply cooked, simply delicious European dishes made with market-fresh ingredients. If something lighter appeals, sample items from the Simply Cooked menu, offering pared-down versions of culinary classics. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch, with tea served each afternoon. A late-night menu is available till 1 AM.
In-room dining - Dine 24 hours a day on dishes from a menu designed by Jean-Georges. An en-suite dining set can be assembled in your guestroom upon request.
Well-known New York personal trainer John Sitaras designed The Mark's 24-hour fitness center. You'll find a carefully curated selection of cardio machines and strength equipment. Talk to the concierge to arrange time with a personal trainer.

Absolutely charming and full of old-NYC attention to detail. The only issue I ever had was my room key not working. Elevators work quickly, decor is charming. Staff is wonderful. Stayed here during Fashion Week. Since it is very close to the high end retail shops, there was a lot of action. One block away from Central Park, so I got a great jog in and I liked being away from the downtown hectic action. The room was very nice. Great bed and linens. Great tub too.
