The Helmsley Park Lane's Park Room Restaurant offers front-row views of Central Park through floor-to-ceiling windows. Like the hotel itself, the menu combines traditional European elegance with a modern American flair. The Sunday brunch is a New York favorite. Sip a classic or creative cocktail at Harry’s New York Bar, named after Manhattan real-estate magnate and philanthropist Harry Helmsley.
Venturing out? The concierge staff, all members of the prestigious Les Clefs d’Or organization, can offer expert advice on what awaits you--and then make reservations. Before or after exploring the city, you can keep up with your exercise routine in the 24-hour fitness center or connect via wireless Internet access (surcharge), available throughout the hotel.
In the 601 traditionally-decorated guestrooms, picture windows frame views of Central Park or Manhattan. Flat-panel TVs come with movie channels. "Over Priced, Underwhelming"
I certainly didn't get my money's worth out of the Helmsley Hotel. After living in NYC for three years, I've come accustomed to how expensive the City is, but I felt ripped off. They put me on an unrenovated floor, set me wake up call for 20 minutes after I requested, and charged me $56 for parking after taking 25 minutes to pull me car around. Overall- great! room was good sized, quiet, even could see a corner of the park. there was an erroneous food charge on my bill that they corrected with only a little hassle. Would have liked more desk staff so the lines in the lobby were not so long. Bell captain was great. the doorman was trying to push an overpriced car and driver on me to get to […] the airport, so beware. the bathroom was clean but old stains in the grouting in bath and shower were present. "Lovely location- no coffee!"
Beautiful view of the park, great location for going to lincoln center. Room was very spacious. Pretty decor. Staff was very warm and helpful. Unfortunately our room was fairly worn down, peeling wall paper and dirty grout. Also bottom sheets not fitted so did not stay put well. And no complimentary coffee!!!! For a "luxury" hotel it was ridiculous […] to have to pay 10 to have a cup of coffee brought to the room! Luckily there is a Starbucks around the corner but I was very disappointed that the hotel did not offer this very basic amenity. Most hotels I have stayed with do. All in all we had a nice stay at the hotel. Our two biggest complaints were a non working toilet and our a/c not working well either. The toilet was "running" upon check in and I asked to have it fixed. A service person came right away to address the issue; however, later that night after we returned from dinner, the toilet wasn't flushing at all. "Rude experience"
Loved NYC - but hotel staff was rude and very unfriendly. Had to ask everyday for washcloths and clean glasses. staff never answered the phone - would have to go down to front desk to get any service - then service at front desk was very slow. Our stay exceeded all expectations! We had excellent service checking in and getting bags upstairs. After a long flight the room was such a breath of fresh air. The linens were white and fluffy, and the decor was all very classy. It really was spacious (esp for nyc) and with the convenience of being on Central Park South, we couldn't ask for more. "Great Location and Service"
We reserved our two rooms at a very good rate on Hotels.com. We were supposed to have Park View rooms; however, when we arrived we were told that no Park View rooms were available. Instead they put us on the top floor in what they said were renovated rooms - one with a king bed and one with 2 double beds. The room with 2 double beds also had a refrigerator. […] Both rooms were very nice. They also said that because they didn't have Park View rooms for us, that they would give us free continental breakfasts, but when I checked our reservation that was already included in our rate.I have read other reviews where people said the staff members were not polite. For what we paid for the room I'd say it wasn't bad by NYC standards. Our friends also stayed - their room was better than ours. It was overall cleaner - The location of this hotel is really convenient based on what your NYC plans are. The Helmsley Park Lane Hotel faces Central Park and is in good company with the legendary Plaza Hotel at one end of the block and the Ritz Carlton at the other. Prepare to live a way we have long-since forgotten, when life was indeed elegant and enjoyable. No trotting down the hall to fetch a bucket of ice. Just ring for the staff to bring it to you and it will be there before you know it. The staff is most courteous, efficient, polite and helpful. All are most interested in performing their function to their highest potential. These are professional people of the highest standard who obviously are well-suited for the careers they have chosen. You are assured their only pleasure is to ensure for you the most superlative stay at the Park Lane. You will appreciate the quietness of the building even when many guests are in residence. The elevators for the guests are very fast, which is a help in a 46 floor building. Don't miss the fabulous view from the dining room directly into Central Park. Breakfast is served there as well. "Mostly "pluses", but a couple negatives"
My daughter and I spent 4 nights at the Helmsley. We really did enjoy our stay there. Great location, (loved being across from Central Park...great view from the 19th floor), near shopping, great resturants, felt safe, very pleasant door/bellhops/information and receptionist. Additionally, quick elavators, nicely cleaned, spacious rooms, and free foil […] chocolate at the front desk. We can only say we had several complaints. #1-shower water backed up even with a quick shower, #2-hallway noise/doors slamming, and #3-horse carridge poop smell when stepping out the front door and walking about 1/2 block, (lots of horses parked out front nearby for city or Central Park rides)...tolerable, but sure didn't want to eat outside at the nearby resturants. The service in this hotel has worsened since my last stay there is December of 2010.
