Hotel and Cathedral still under construction as of 1/6/13. Construction didn't hinder our stay but the grounds weren't as aesthetically appealing as they will be once finished. This hotel is in a great location close to everything. Rockefeller Center, Saks and Cathedral are just steps away.The staff is wonderful, from curbside check in through out the stay. Ask for the cathedral view if possible.The only complaint is lack of accessability for water,coffee,etc.You must order room service or use the mini bar at outrageous fees. for 2 days the elevators were either very slow or not working. We got varied explanations from employees about this. Finally had to walk down 9 flights of stairs with other hotel occupants to get out of the hotel. The review for 7/26 was right on. The construction next door is a problem. Especially for the higher priced Towers. We had reserved two rooms with two queen beds. NOT AVAILABLE. They brought a roll away with used sheets still on it!!! They charged for mini bar items not used!!! They charged for the Internet when I called twice to make them aware that […] I did not want to pay $15. / day. We called about a leaking toilet. On the second attempt to tell them, the front desk clerk thought I was being ridiculous for worrying about the noisy leaking toilet since there was nothing on the floor! "Legendary Service & Attention to Details Absent"
You'd never know that I stayed in The Palace's Towers in order ensure a pleasant stay. Instead, I experienced a hot room with an obstructed view. Requests for a change were met with lame excuses--guests had not yet checked out (at 5:10pm!); rooms were not yet cleaned (7:30 pm & 9:30pm). Sleep was disturbed by the heat. A request for a "late check-out" […] at 1pm (regular check-out is at noon) was rebuffed with a claim that hotel policy did not permit this and that I would be charged an extra day if I stayed later than 12! Yes, that was outrageous. Af for attention to details (the bedrock of the hotel's reputation): Flowers were never delivered; the guest welcome card was in another person's name; I was charged for 2 beers (haven't had a beer in 6 yrs as I am a diabetic); the bed was not turned down when I returned from dinner-- and it never was. Finally, the Towers Club, for which I paid extra, turned out to be in another building and could only be accessed by an elevator trip to a cross-over floor, then a walk across the hotels and finally an up elevator to the Club floor. This is hardly a convenience! Overall, a disappointment- a costly room with budget level service & routine amenities . Attention to detail was MIA. My recommendation: look elsewhere. Always stay here, service is impeccable, and building is immaculate. Doormen are always gentlemen (and very dapper!) and front desk clerks are quick, efficient, and friendly My room was sold out and I was upgraded to a 1-bedroom corner suite in the Towers. The hotel was beautiful even though it is under renovation. I thought the location was great as we could easily walk to all the popular places in 15 minutes or less. This was by far the most expensive hotel I have ever stayed in. Since I was staying in NYC for one night, I thought I would splurge and stay in a fancy-pants hotel. For the price, I'm deeply disappointed that when I took my shower in the morning, the bathtub wouldn't drain and I was quickly standing in ankle-deep water. As well, for the price, they […] don't include free wifi in the rooms, only in the hotel lobby. They wanted to charge $15.99 for 24 hours of wifi service. Seriously? In any budget motel I've ever stayed in, I get free wifi in my room. Absolutely ridiculous. Big classic 5* hotel. Rooms are clean and pretty much have all facilities required. I requested a cathedral view on upper levels and was granted exactly that, a very spacious great room. The location is just excellent, walking distance from everything, central park, 5th ave, even times square. Hotel is a bit formal and business like for solo travellers […] on vacation but location makes up for that. Major drawback is the staff on reception and on call, they have clearly crossed the line from professional to completely unfriendly!! However the doormen and concierge guys were amazing, hi to all of u :) another drawback is the expensive room wifi but it's free in the lounge so that's ok, and lack of coffee makers in the room.
