First, they lost our reservation and kept us waiting for 20 minutes. Then they promised to make it up to us by letting us check out late the next day, except they forgot that and actually gave the room to someone else while we were still out. "Overrated - poor service"
I admit, the hotel looks nice. But I did not book a room there to buy the hotel. Basic things in today's technology is internet. The hotel charges $16.99 per day when most hotels (and motels) give it up complementary. Yes, the WiFi is free in the lobby but good luck finding a place to sit when most of the residents trying to get online in the lobby. […] Another basic thing is the coffee machine in the room, none, so you have to get out of the hotel to get coffee, or order an expensive cup of coffee to your room. No ice machine either. Yes, the location is good, but basic amenities where poor. When you get in the room, do not touch the bar or the fridge, if you remove an item for more than 30 seconds it automatically charges you. So if you have milk for the baby that you want to place in the fridge, you can't because the fridge is stuffed with the items they place there and if you remove an item to put the baby milk, guess what... they put that item on your bill for you to go and fight with the reception to remove that item. "Legendary Service & Attention to Details Absent"
You'd never know that I stayed in The Palace's Towers in order ensure a pleasant stay. Instead, I experienced a hot room with an obstructed view. Requests for a change were met with lame excuses--guests had not yet checked out (at 5:10pm!); rooms were not yet cleaned (7:30 pm & 9:30pm). Sleep was disturbed by the heat. A request for a "late check-out" […] at 1pm (regular check-out is at noon) was rebuffed with a claim that hotel policy did not permit this and that I would be charged an extra day if I stayed later than 12! Yes, that was outrageous. Af for attention to details (the bedrock of the hotel's reputation): Flowers were never delivered; the guest welcome card was in another person's name; I was charged for 2 beers (haven't had a beer in 6 yrs as I am a diabetic); the bed was not turned down when I returned from dinner-- and it never was. Finally, the Towers Club, for which I paid extra, turned out to be in another building and could only be accessed by an elevator trip to a cross-over floor, then a walk across the hotels and finally an up elevator to the Club floor. This is hardly a convenience! Overall, a disappointment- a costly room with budget level service & routine amenities . Attention to detail was MIA. My recommendation: look elsewhere. As they extoll the "loveliness" of the room, they neglect to tell you that next door is a construction site with a 24 hour permit. Yes, you *can* run heavy machinery 24 hours a day. The site is just starting the foundation (4/10) so I can't imagine it's going to be any better any time soon. "Well located but snooty and expensive Midtown hote"
Just returned from 5 nights in NYP as part of a longer USA trip. We stayed in 3 hotels and 2 lodges during our entire trip and this stay was by far the most disappointing. First the positives - Location - great midtown location with easy walking access to Rockerfeller Centre, Central Park, Times Sq, Empire State and 5th Ave shops. Views - we had a cathedral […] view room and the view was stunning. Rooms - clean, fairly spacious, good sized bathrooms and well maintained. Now the negatives - Staff - aloof, superior attitude, either disinterested or positively unhelpful. When I asked the concierge if he could arrange an SUV transfer to JFK he said yes and would cost $320 one way for a family of 4!! When asked if there was a cheaper alternative the answer was 'No'. A quick phone all to Expedia got the same service for $120. Restaurant - ridiculously expensive. A continental breakfast cost $33! The net effect of this is that everyone seems to bail out to Starbucks across the road. I'd recommend Liberty Deli across the road on 49th for a proper NY breakfast experience at a much cheaper price (also good for late afternoon sandwich to take back to the room if you are peckish). Public space - dreadfully limited and overcrowded. The downstairs lobby has free wifi but few seats so what you get are guests sitting on the stairs with their various devices accessing the wifi - not a great ambience.
