Pine Beach Inn

We we celebrating a lost life and the features we did like were the private beach and flower patch. They had day use tennis rackets and balls to play around with. It was nice to lay in bed and look and the ocean. The place needs a face lift. It is out dated and needs new bedding. No coffee in the room but there is some in the lobby.

I am not sure exactly what to make of this place. They call themselves an Inn but in reality it is a motel. First off, we stayed here during spring break, which was obviously offseason here, so we do not know how it is during the summer. It is an older property with several buildings- at least one of which dates back to the 1920's as we learned through […] photos in the manager's lobby. The room was plain but clean. It had a slight moldy smell probably due to being offseason and not used much. The property has access to a small beach, accesible in about a 5 minute walk. The property offered free interenet, but our room did not have any reception. The manager confirmed that the recption is limited to rooms somewhat closer to the main building. There is a nice Thai restaurant on the property, with the unfortunate name of Viraporn, which offered reasonably priced good meals. Though the website says there is a full stocked bar onsite, the bar (in the restaurant) was not operating during offseason (not important for me, just noting this). A very simple free breakfast was offered in the main lobby in a no frills manner- kind of felt like I was visiting in someone's house. But hey, there was a breakfast- cereal and toast. The impression I got from the property was that it was hopping during the 60's and 70's but is now past its golden days. A little investment in freshening and repairing some things would in my opinion payoff nicely. If you like rustic and quiet, this is it. Read more

The room was very roomy and had a beach view, however,the contact at Hotels.com said we would have a patio from which "we could walk right out on the beach". The beach was actually a 5-10 minute walk. The grounds were spacious and off the road, which was a plus. The whole area looked very run down and the advertised on-site restaurant was closed.

Its perfect as expected for the price. wash basin in the toilet has worn marks but everything worked fine. I was little disappointed because I thought ocean can be viewed from anywhere in the room but you can view from certain angle(directly from one bed), patio had great view. I was amazed at this motel. It is on the south side of Fort Bragg and is right on the beach (up a cliff, but has a path for easy beach access). We had a beach view room, and it was a beautiful sunset and sunrise. What amazed me was that even though the motel decor and furniture is dated (at least our rooms were) and there weren't fitted sheets on one […] of the beds (we had a two queen room), the view and the restaurant made up for it. The quality of the restaurant was so totally unexpected in this location that it blew me away! Beautiful Thai food with a well done decor and reasonable prices! Comfortable and cheap! Beautiful back deck with chairs and view of the ocean. Private beach access. Large queen beds, plenty of sheets, blankets, pillows - so skimping here. The hotel room smelled funny and needed repairs - broken bathroom tiles, broken fixtures, rusty balcony furniture, and so on. Walking down the sidewalk to get to the car, there was an intense smell of either something fishy or something dead, which was, luckily, not evident from our room. We were not very happy with the old age or maintenance of the facility - old rooms and old furniture. It doesn't seem that any money has been spent on this hotel in years. The site told us it viewed a beach but not so - to access the beach was a 200 yard walk down a path to the beach that couldn't be seen from the rooms. I stayed here 15 years ago and it was decent then but it appears they haven't updated or replaced anything since then. The mattresses were the most uncomfortable I've slept on in years. The TV in the room was state of the art in the mid-80's maybe. It's a great location, but the amenities are lacking. We had a beautiful private beach view which we enjoyed very much. Maintenance of the place is definitely needed as it is becoming old and worn out. The sliding door to the balcony was so rusty we could hardly open it to enjoy the beach view.

I was extremely disappointed (a nice word for outraged). I stayed at the Pine Beach because it was the closest place to a family vacation. I checked in in the afternoon and left immediately to join family. I returned at 10 pm. There was no running water! Apparently the motel ran out. In the morning, there was a dribble of water, but not warm enough […] to take a shower. The owner seemed to be aware of the situation and assured me that it would be fixed. I stayed for four nights, because I didn't have time or energy to find another place to stay, and was able to shower in other family members' rooms at other motels. There never was reliable running water, and what there was was never warm enough to bathe properly. Also, the room was never cleaned thoroughly. The first night I noticed soiled underwear in one corner of the room, and a dirty sock in another. The room was not even cleaned properly between guests. The sink was not cleaned during my four-day stay. DO NOT STAY HERE. Read more

Pine Beach is a property that was developed as early as 1902 (see the registration card in the lobby). Although the age shows, the location is superb and most of the original grounds have been sold off for private houses. Nevertheless, the remaining grounds are large but largely paved. There's a worn path to an excellent beach so be sure to wander down. […] Talking to other guests our room was typical: two doubles (one lumpy, one good), small 1950's bathroom, microwave, television and cable, moss-covered deck, a phone not connected to the wall (sic) (there was no connection on the wall!), and an un-closable patio door. Needs upkeep/maintenace, very aged, probably a popular place in it's younger days, but provided the basic needs.... grounds kept neat. Thai food restraunt next door good quality and ambiance. Beach cove fantastic for boogie boarding, exploring and relaxing. Walking distance to State Park and Beach. 5 minute drive into town.

This hotel was several miles from town which wasn't expected. Also, 3 out of 4 lamps didn't work until the service man came to fix them. Host was rather abrupt when we called about it asking "if we wanted to upgrade our room" .. no just fix what was in our current room, thank you very much!

People have commented that this is an "old" motel-type place and sure, it's probably from the 1980s - which means big rooms, drapes, carpets, sliding glass doors, flowered quilts. We thought that was just fine. The best thing was the private beach access. You can walk down a natural, un-paved path behind the building and get to the private beach which […] is really a cove with big rock outcroppings on either side and crashing waves on the sand. Why stay somewhere in Ft Bragg where you can't get to the beach? I could have spent the whole day there. Bring your own coffee maker if you want coffee in room in the morning -- but they do a simple breakfast, with juice and coffee, up in the lobby/registration office, and if you go up there you get to meet the really nice people who work there. I'd come back to this place to stay a few days in peace and quiet and read books on the beach (unless it was raining, etc.) Read more

The trail to the cove is just a nice little jaunt, and so lovely. The cove is just what I longed for in the way of being beautiful, secluded, and worth staying at even all day long and into the evening. The Inn needs some refurbishing but was acceptable especially considering location and the private cove which we could see from our balcony and listen […] to all night with the slider cracked. We loved the quiet location, away from town and the highway. The little path to the beach is short and lovely and the beach is paradise, even when it's foggy. The room has hilarious flaws that make it seem like you're on a movie set in a oddball place: 2 of the lamps had to be turned on by screwing in the lightbulb and one lamp didn't have a place nearby […] to plug in so just hung there. The bathtub dripped prominently all night. Everything seems a little old and a few years past its useful life... yet it had a certain mysterious charm. The family upstairs added to the mysterious movie set effect because you could hear their tromping throughout the night. What's going on up there? The restaurant people were sweet and you can imagine that in some bygone era people danced on the lovely dance floor and sipped cocktails at the curving bar. The Pad Thai (tofu) and Cabbage salad were great. The steamed spring rolls were uninteresting. The coconut soup was a little bland. We wouldn't send high-end honeymooners here but families will love the creek and the beach and the fact that there's nothing their kids can really wreck! This motel is not in Fort Bragg, but rather, about 1 1/2 mile south of town. The breakfast is only continental, including coffee, cold cereal, toast, and bagels. Otherwise, it is fine. Older but clean, and the little beach down a somewhat steep path is secluded and pretty.

Too bad about the quality of the facility and the housekeeping services. The motel is by itself on the south side of town. Visitors might have been expecting to be among those beach front properties on the north side of town but will be surprised to be halfway between Ft. Bragg and Caspar. We'd read the reviews and went with an open mind because the beach sounded nice. On check in I explained that our 2 boys (7 and 4)can get loud and could we be moved to a separate area. No problems-he moved us to a lower room with no neighbors and closest to the trail to the beach. The bed linen was clean and the beds soft. There was a sliding glass […] door that opened onto a little grassy area in the back and in the distance you could see the Pacific. Also a clean fridge which turned out very handy. I have to be honest about the rooms condition though--filthy lamps shades,holes in the bath towels(we bring our own anyway) and something hanging off the curtain(posible a dead decomposed bug). Much in need of some reinvesting in the upkeep of the rooms. TV old but plenty of channels and lots of hot water. Breakfast was some cereal and a bit of fruit so forget that and just head into one of Fort Bragg's many cafes just up the road. The cove is why I could stay here again. It's an area enclosed by cliffs with a shallow little creek running down into the Pacific. The kids LOVED making a dam on the creek with all the rocks and we spotted a few banana slugs on the trail down(3 minute walk). I get nervous around high surf but this was gentle enough to let the kids run through the wet sand but they spent most of their time working on their dam or trying to cross at different points without getting their shoes wet. This is a really great hotel in a fantastic location. It is right outside of Fort Bragg, but still close enough to town that it is an easy drive. The private beach is beautiful as well and a nice amenity to this establishment. Don't miss the Thai restaurant that is right there next to the hotel. very pleasant stay,older motel but very clean,nothing fancy,just basic amenities,you can sit out on back porch and enjoy sunset or you can stroll down to private beach in 10 to 15 minutes.would recomend to anyone wanting clean amenities for less money.
