This old-fashioned Las Vegas hotel and casino is located in historic downtown Las Vegas, 1 block from Neonopolis, 2 blocks from The Fremont Street Experience, and 2 miles from the Las Vegas Strip.

Dating from the 1940s, El Cortez's original building was once owned by mobster Bugsy Siegel. Today, the hotel features a40,000-square-foot casino with blackjack, craps, roulette, 3-card poker, video poker, sports book, and 1,100 slot machines. Extended multi-race keno allows participants to play up to 1,000 consecutive games with 1 ticket.

363 oversized guestrooms and suites at El Cortez Hotel and Casino are located in a 14-story tower, a 5-story pavilion, or on a walk-up level just above the casino floor. Cabana rooms are located in a building across the street. Tower rooms include separate seating areas with love seats, wing chairs, and coffee tables. Vintage rooms, above the casino, have been remodeled to reflect 1940s décor. Cabana Suites offer 42-inch flat-screen TVs and MP3 docking stations. All guestrooms offer cable TV, coffee/tea makers, and hair dryers.

The Flame Steakhouse - With a comfortable setting and classic atmosphere, this restaurant serves prime rib, New York steaks, seafood, and chicken selections. Nightly dinner is served from late afternoon until late evening.
Cafe Cortez - A variety of food is served in generous portions for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is open 24 hours, with a limited menu Sunday through Thursday from 10:30 PM to 7:30 AM.
Parlour Bar - Located in the casino, this bar has live entertainment and opens in the mid-morning.
Main Bar - This bar is open 24 hours a day.
Lobby Bar - Located in the casino, this bar opens in the early afternoon.
Subway - Adjacent to the gift shop, this spot is open from early morning until late evening.
Room service is available from early morning until late evening.
Under a vault of 2 million light bulbs and employing a 550,000-watt sound system, a 4-block pedestrians-only stretch of downtown Las Vegas called Fremont Street Experience presents periodic sound-and-light shows from dusk to midnight. Other entertainment on the street includes live music, classic-car displays, and holiday festivals. Like 9 other downtown casino hotels, this hotel opens directly onto Fremont Street, creating a lively flow of pedestrian traffic.
El Cortez Hotel's 40,000-square-foot casino offers blackjack, craps, roulette, mini baccarat, 3-card poker, video poker, both live and video keno, and 1,100 slot machines that accept denominations between one penny and five dollars. The race-and-sports book provides a lounge with multiple large-screen TVs. Live entertainment is provided nightly in the casino's Lounge Bar.
Jackie's Club offers complimentary membership cards that reward play with comps and other rewards.
Skydiving and helicopter tours are popular with Las Vegas visitors. Numerous golf courses are available in the Las Vegas area.

"Vintage room casino noise at night"
I have stayed here multiple times in the vintage rooms, however, on this stay the casino noise woke me up...had to purchase ear plugs. When you check in they surprise you with a big deposit that has to be paid to stay there, after you check out it takes 2 or 3 days for it to be refunded. El Cortez is pretty dirty and stinky and not the safest place to stay as there quite a few squeezy and shady people around. Definetly use the safe in your room if you have things you don't want stolen as the door locks are pretty useless and hotel security is lacking. That being said it is cheap at $20 a night. Love the no resort fee. You know what you are paying with no surprises. You have to have a $50-150 deposit fee on a debit or credit card when you arrive though. My wife made a reservation & paid for the room in advance. When I arrived, the desk clerk informed me that I must pay an additional $40 deposit, which I would receive back in 3-10 days if the room was left in good order. I responded I had never been asked to make such a deposit before and found the policy objectionable. It was explained to me that because […] of their location they'd had difficulties with drug users stealing from the rooms & they required this deposit now of all their guests. 1st, I don't want to stay in a hotel that has issues with drug users. 2nd, I don't feel I should be penalized with additional deposits and being forced to let the hotel use my money without interest for up to 10 days because they have a questionable clientele. 3rd, these terms were not disclosed on the website or when my wife reserved the room.
