The Lodge is perfect for Hearst Castle, as close as you can get. The pillows were thin, and the bed was not terribly comfortable. For the cost, this is a good place for a night or two.

The grounds are nice and the view just across the highway is staggering. Tho this is not a new hotel, it is very well maintained for an older hotel. Call me crazy, but I think older motels left to some extent as they were, are charming. So, would I recommend this hotel to friends? I already have. Would I stay here again? You bet! Read more

We first stayed here in July and loved the location. The fact that there is a good restaurant, convenience store and liquor store on the premises was great! Food at the restaurant was very good. This is now our go to spot!

5 Mommies, 6 kids road trip from LA to see Hearst Castle. We chose too meet in San Simeon because its half way between LA and Sacramento (one if our friends & her kid drove from Sac to meet us). The San Simeon Lodge is only about 5 minutes from where you park to take the shuttle to Hearst Castle. The hotel has a restaurant on the property (food is ok, […] a bit pricey) but service is excellent. Employees are all very friendly. There is also a Liquor Store/Mini Mart just across the way (walking distance) so you can stock up on snacks, drinks, etc. The beach is a close walk, too. Maybe 1/8 mile. Overall this hotel is a bit dated, and could use a remodel/updating (tree rooms didn't have a bath tub, only a shower and the grout in the shower was not nearly as clean as I am comfortable with.) The kids did really enjoy the outdoor which was heated. Overall, a good experience. This hotel is inexpensive and a great location. Read more

After driving Hwy 1 ALL day it was wonderful to arrive at the hotel and have everything we needed on site. Room was clean, staff friendly. Will be going to Hearst Castle again and will definatley stay here.

I needed a place to stay for an overnight trip to Cambria that would be more economical than Moonstone Beach, so I chose San Simeon Lodge. I didn't expect it to be luxurious, and it wasn't. If you are very particular about mattress quality and are looking for something like the Westin's Heavenly Bed, then this place may not be for you. However, it was […] clean, had a decent little restaurant for breakfast, and was across the street from the ocean. I stayed on the first floor and had an ocean view. I did hear the person above me walking around, but fortunately he/she was asleep and awake at reasonable hours, so it didn't bother me. There was also a convenience store on the grounds. It seemed like an ideal place for families to come in the summer to enjoy the beach. The front desk staff and wait staff in the restaurant were friendly--no complaints. Read more

this hotel was great for the price. it was a very short walk to the beach and right down the street from hearst castle! the only thing i didn't like about the hotel was it had no bath tub and the shower was just barely big enough for me and i'm only 5'6". other than that the hotel was great.

It was a convenient stay next to hearst castle. The restaurant was so-so, but much better than the other dining in the area. The sauna and amenities were out of service, including the ice maker. Would stay again because of convenience..

Large clean room, up dated bathroom, friendly staff. We stayed for five nights. We spent one day at Hearst Castle a must see. Went everyday to Cambria. Great restaurants, shops and hiking trails. The bluff trail took many pictures. Short drive to everything. Downside very hard to get phone and Internet service in the AM. Slightly better eves.

Good place to stay while doing Hearst Castle. The on site restaruant was GREAT for breakfast. That was the only meal we had there. The room was fine aside of squeaky floors. Glad we were on the top floor. Would definitly stay there again. If you have the time Do the upstairs (much smaller group) Castle tour in addition to the main Casa Grande tour (in […] the same day). That way you see MUCH MORE of the Castle. The one tour will leave you disappointd. It's to short for such a long drive. Read more

It was what it was. Only complaint was the room had a musky smell when first arrived, perhaps if they left the windows open to air out. The shower was not good VERY slow running water. The restaurant too expensive. Otherwise for the price it was good. Staff was very friendly and pleasant.

This is a retro hotel that is quite charming. The ocean is visable. The restaurant and bar bar on the property have great discounts on drinks, appetizers and even our dinner. The service and the friendliness of the staff are something we have not seem in a long time.

The room is nicely located across Hwy 1 from the ocean and you have ocean views from your room. It is a clean decent hotel but not very fancy. My only real complaint was that the heater wasn't working and when I asked to have it looked at the maintenance department was unable to fix it. The staff were friendly and the restaurant was nice but in the bottom floor room we could hear the people walking until late at night which made it hard to sleep and the shower was unusable as there was no water pressure nor could the tempature be controlled. Decent hotel for the money, with a nice restaurant and bar, along with an on site minimart for when the bar closes! Comfy beds, can't comment on pool as didn't use it. Beware though if you're using this as a stop off going north - highway one is closed about 40 mins north of San Simeon and the only way around the closure is about ten mins south of […] San Simeon. This is likely to be he case for the next 2 months, so check before you set off to avoid wasting a load of time as we did! Read more

Mysigt i hotell i lilla San Simeon. Stora ljusa rum, bekväma sängar. nära havet, där du ser en fantastisk solnedgång. Perfekt för att övernatta en natt. San Simeon är väldigt litet, i princip bara hotell, men ligger väldigt nära Hearst Castle.
